This was the era when a song told a story...and it took you along for the ride. No back up, no frills, and certainly none of the 4 letter words that are blasted on stage now. I miss good ole country music.
This song touches me deeply every time I listen to it. My name is Amanda, which makes it even more special to me. The softness and sincerity in Don Williams voice, combined with the heartfelt lyrics, create an instant connection. A piece that warms the heart and stays engraved in the soul.❤❤ From Ivory Coast, Abidjan 🇨🇮
Don Williams was the first concert I was blessed to attend. He was beautifully in tune and gentlemanly. No concert I have attended I has ever achieved what he did with his voice and demeanor, he had a fatherly affect on me that has continued throughout my life. Love you Don.
Some broken heart never mend. I miss the good old days when we had the best of country music and the most creative and unique songwriters. Each song had a story related to your current circumstances. Miss you Don, Elton, Tammy, Kenny, Lionel and all that made our 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s 💿 the best. I was privileged to be amongst those who had the chance to grow up with these songs. Do you feel privileged, too?

Growing up as a young kid in the 70's, this is one of the songs my dad would play guitar and sing. Don Williams sings it almost as good as my daddy did. RIP to both. your missed more than you could of ever known
Love your songs. Brought so much joy into our lives. Thank you. RIP hope you're singing up there where the sun never sets! Till we all meet again at Heavens door.
My late dad used to sing this too me. It's weird seeing that at the top coz I am Amanda and I was born in 1974 :)...and I got my first guitar when I was 14 lol x
David, Dude. How can pp. not live this song???. One of the best songs ever on the radio. Today*s Country; for the most part. is crap. The2,000 pp. that do not like this Song must be those Rich pp. " keeping up with the Jones!!!!
My mom actually heard this song on the way to the hospital to have me !!! But she decided that when she heard this song on May 26th of 1979 done by the original artist Waylon Jennings that Amanda would be my name !!! She always told me the song couldn't be as beautiful as the moment she saw my face and that I will always be her one and only; Beautiful Amanda, no matter my age !!! I was born on August 27th of 79; exactly 3 months and 1 day after this amazing song was released !!!! I can't think of any other name I'd rather have !!! I Thank you momma always; for giving me such a precious gift of naming me Amanda !!! You mean the world to me and I love you dearly !!!!
We named our daughter Amanda after this song, she was born January 22, 1978 She loves country music and I let her know recently that she was named after a country song ! She had not really thought about that previously ♥️
My favorite song of memory, every stanza of the sentence you sing is listened to carefully by the listener. I still remember the happy years of 1975 as a teenager. Thanks for sharing, all my faforit songs. God bless you. 👍🏻🎶💐🎶💙
I saw him in Southport ( England) many years ago with my dad, what a performance, a true gentleman and fantastic singer, thanks for the wonderful memories don, my wife and I have a few of your lp's and play them regularly, we have a couple of favourite songs, gypsy woman, Amanda, rodeo man, and many more, rip don may you rest in peace and your beautiful music live on.
Played in a band for years when I was living in Scotland. When people would would find out I was North American, they'd ask for a country song. I always did this...about a million times. RIP Gentle Giant.,
I was 5 ( 1968 ) when I heard this song for the 1st time I told my mom then that was going to be my daughter's name...when I'm 1986 I had my daughter... Amanda
When I was pregnant with my second baby I planned on naming her Amanda because of this song. We didn’t know the sex of the baby like most couples do now. Alas it was a boy we named William Troy. I finally got my Amanda when Troy married his lovely Amanda. She is a wonderful wife, mother and daughter-in-law. We are so blessed to have her.
I love this song I have a 24 year daughter that's name is Amanda and I named her Amanda because of this song. I am so proud of her and she did marry a super great guy that I am proud to have as a son in-law
I heard Don Williams at the N.C.State fair in 1978 and he played this song. He sounded exactly like this in concert. There were only about 200 people in the Dorton Arena at the fair that night and nobody seemed to clap after the song. I was in the very far end of the building, probably 300 feet away from the stage, and at the end of this song I yelled out at the top of my lungs "Hey Don........Play it one more time !" . I swear to God , he stopped on stage and scratched the top of his hat and said " Well boys.......with a little pause, and they played the whole song again note for note. After that the crowd was crazy for the rest of the show. It embarassed the girlfriend I had at the time so bad that we broke up shortly afterwards. It was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. Any woman that didn't like Don Williams wasn't worth my time.
My son loved Don Williams from an early age, around 10 months old. I took him to a concert at age 14 months; I am not sure who enjoyed the Don Williams concert the most. My toddler or the audience; we had front row seats. Don Williams saw my toddler loving his music !
+Sandra Burke I've seen Don in concert and this is just the way he sings. Of course, the song has a different feeling when Waylon sings it. Either version still tells the same story. And what husband doesn't feel this way about his wife? Whether you're playing a guitar or a computer, a good husband wants the best for his wife.
I don’t know if anyone cares but my dear Dad came back from Vietnam at 20 years old. Simple southern guy, his spirit was broken at the horror he experienced during 13 months in the jungle. He heard this song and thought “If ever have a little girl she will be Amanda.” He realized he’d never have children and out the thought out of his mind. Ten years later he met my mother. He was in bad shape and as he puts it “she was nice to me, treated me like a normal man” Then I was born. He insisted my name was Amanda and never told my mom or me why until I was a grown woman. I think that’s a pretty cool way to get your name. Best father ever, true gentleman still at 74 years old!
😢 Don always brings memories of mom. Beautiful song and I love it, but bawling my eyes out. ❤ Amazing ....goosebumps every time. I feel this in my soul.
The Great American Troubadour has been released from his earthly bonds. Rest in Peace Don Williams, Thank you for all the music that touched our souls.

Simply the best. RIP Don Williams. Your music was "our best friend" ol buddy. Our lives would not have been the same, without you, and your 100% attention to perfect delivery and performance. I hope all musicians everywhere will be inspired by your standards. Thank you thank you thank you, Don. Goodbye. Rest on our tears.
I meet Don Williams in Austin, Texas many years ago in the early seventies, I saw myself in many of his songs. I was honored to be with him on his last day on the stage sharing himself to all.
My mom was named after this song by my grandpa. She was born in 1974 when he was 21. When she was 8 and he was 29 he committed suicide. I never got to meet him but somehow I feel closer to him listening to this song, which is something I have always wanted.
I'm sorry about your Grandpa. I was 24 when I named my daughter Amanda after this song by Don Williams. She was born in 1980, she likes Waylon's version best but she knows she's named Amanda from Don's original version ❤
Grace My brother too "checked out Early" I remind my daughter to LIVE HER LIFE That's Why We had her I hope you find peace, clarity. Your Mom too. Especially Now. ☮️
Another great big man gone loved this music!! Brings me back Home, RIP Mr Williams, WOOOOW what a beautiful song haven't heard it in years makes me cry!!!
my mom is suffering from dementia and sheloved Don Williams back in the day I am about to get her his greatesthits to help her brighten up, I forgot about this song, but I remembered it immediately.l was only 6. I'm 55 now.❤
Thank you for the memory. I won't go into the back-story but this song basically lifted my mom out of depression. We met Mr. Williams outside the venue at the state fairgrounds in Hiawassee, GA more than 40 years ago, and he was a gentleman and comforted my mom.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face,,

So relaxed he looks like he could sing himself to sleep. Love this song, it actually reminds me of an old classmate named Amanda.

Don will be greatly missed. Very high on the list of singers I wish I'd been able to meet. Great performer, and always kept it real.
This was the era when a song told a story...and it took you along for the ride. No back up,
no frills, and certainly none of the 4 letter words that are blasted on stage now. I miss good
ole country music.
Hello Nellie,Hope You’re having a good day?
This song touches me deeply every time I listen to it.
My name is Amanda, which makes it even more special to me.
The softness and sincerity in Don Williams voice, combined with the heartfelt lyrics, create an instant connection.
A piece that warms the heart and stays engraved in the soul.❤❤
From Ivory Coast, Abidjan 🇨🇮

Played in a band for years when I was living in Scotland. When people would would find out I was North American, they'd ask for a country song. I always did this...about a million times. RIP Gentle Giant.,

Hi Theresa, how are you doing and your family, how is the weather condition over there?
When I was pregnant with my second baby I planned on naming her Amanda because of this song. We didn’t know the sex of the baby like most couples do now. Alas it was a boy we named William Troy. I finally got my Amanda when Troy married his lovely Amanda. She is a wonderful wife, mother and daughter-in-law. We are so blessed to have her.
What a golden baritone voice of Don Williams! Simply love his songs.

He's wasn't a legend. He is a legend. The soul doesn't die, only the body in the world. Afterlife awaits everyone.
Wish there were more good old boys like Don Williams!!! He was one of the greats of country music, loved him!!!!!
Hello Kay, Hope You’re having a good day?
My son loved Don Williams from an early age, around 10 months old. I took him to a concert at age 14 months; I am not sure who enjoyed the Don Williams concert the most. My toddler or the audience; we had front row seats. Don Williams saw my toddler loving his music !
Hi Vicky

I have been listening to Don William since I was 25 those songs are the best I can bet that....

No jumping round but a beautiful baritone. A voice to soothe all stressful times....

I don't think this is a lip sync. Just pure country voice and pure country music.
I agree.
+Sandra Burke Why would Don Williams lip-synch?
+Sandra Burke I've seen Don in concert and this is just the way he sings. Of course, the song has a different feeling when Waylon sings it. Either version still tells the same story. And what husband doesn't feel this way about his wife? Whether you're playing a guitar or a computer, a good husband wants the best for his wife.

I don’t know if anyone cares but my dear Dad came back from Vietnam at 20 years old. Simple southern guy, his spirit was broken at the horror he experienced during 13 months in the jungle.
He heard this song and thought “If ever have a little girl she will be Amanda.”
He realized he’d never have children and out the thought out of his mind.
Ten years later he met my mother. He was in bad shape and as he puts it “she was nice to me, treated me like a normal man”
Then I was born. He insisted my name was Amanda and never told my mom or me why until I was a grown woman.
I think that’s a pretty cool way to get your name.
Best father ever, true gentleman still at 74 years old!

Hello,how are you doing
My mom was named after this song by my grandpa. She was born in 1974 when he was 21. When she was 8 and he was 29 he committed suicide. I never got to meet him but somehow I feel closer to him listening to this song, which is something I have always wanted.
Sorry about that Grace
I'm sorry about your Grandpa.
I was 24 when I named my daughter Amanda after this song by Don Williams. She was born in 1980, she likes Waylon's
version best but she knows she's named Amanda from Don's original version ❤

Thank you for the memory. I won't go into the back-story but this song basically lifted my mom out of depression. We met Mr. Williams outside the venue at the state fairgrounds in Hiawassee, GA more than 40 years ago, and he was a gentleman and comforted my mom.
I came home from a Heavy Metal concert and switched on the TV and this video came on. It absolutely blew me away!! I love it
