  • Friday October 16th 2015 I had major clutch failure while getting on the highway in Dewitt Michigan. In second gear accelerating to merge on the highway my 2009 KTM RC8R began to make a loud clicking sound, I quickly pulled my clutch because I thought that possibly the bike did not shift into all the way in to gear. The noise stopped so I let the clutch out slowly and the noise did not happen so I shifted to third gear and began to accelerate again and then it happened! I loud pop noise and I felt something on my leg, I looked down and I could see my clutch spinning and metal and oil all over my leg. I pulled the clutch and hit the kill switch coming to a stop as fast as possible. The bike currently has 11994 miles and the KTM 10k Service was done at 9300 miles. According to the certified KTM dealership they do not check the torque of the clutch spring bolts, so everything was done to KTM specifications from the factory. I believe this is a manufacturing defect that KTM should definitely cover but their customer service department (which was terrible) told me that the bike is to far out of warranty for them to be involved. My main concerned is anyone else having this issue, and the risk of being seriously hurt due to this malfunction. Please comment and share to anyone you know who is currently riding a KTM RC8 or RC8R.
