      Sound movies were expensive to make in Gershwin’s time, and required a lot of costly specialized equipment.

    Exactly. Upright got killed! Love the background bings and bangs on this. Must have been on a stage or in studio. Love it all.

    The Gershwin brothers gave the song to UCLA in 1936. They band has been playing it at basketball and football games since.
    It is a bit ironic that the song comes from a musical that is a parody of war and the uniformed marching band plays it just before the players come on the gridiron.
    I wonder how much in royalties UCLA has earned from from the song being played on the radio, on the stage, and in the movies over almost 90 years.
