Hopkinson Smith - Renassaince lute
This music is so incredibly soulful. It brings tears of joy to my eyes.
Francesco Canova da Milano 1497 - 1543 ... worked for the papal court for almost all of his career. Francesco was heralded throughout Europe as the foremost lute composer of his time. More of his music is preserved than of any other lutenist of the period, and his work continued to influence composers for more than a century after his death.
Thanks for adding that information - I was unaware of this composer's apparent great fame.
Good to know it, thank you!
Hopkinson Smith is a genius.
a brilliant man for sure, his playing is flawless

54:05 Fantasía #40, my favourite piece by da Milano.
Subtle, clear, ...
Excelente!
Awesome :)
o, schön!
dear hopkinson smith.. you will never read this.. this is addressed to the multitude of dedicated artists of all fields, be they musicians, graphical artists or mere scientists.. how do you manage to collect so much knowledge monolithically? You have such a collection of perfectly rendered pieces that vary so many hundred of years of music over a range of instruments tuned so differently! it's not to the quality of the execution that I bow to.. but to the love and dedication to the enormous field of quality!
Thanks
@@redschonewille where are you from?
Simply divine. (If you like this music, I suggest you give a listen to Phil Keaggy's album "The Wind And The Wheat".)
This fellow makes guitar arrangements seem a folly
Yes, exactly! which is why, although I’m a classical guitarist, I just bought a lute - it’s clear that lute music needs to be played on a lute -
Excellent point - &, we can still be glad that more listeners will come to learn about lute music, if even via guitar transcriptions, don't you think?
Francesco Canova da Milano 18 August 1497 - 2 January 1543
Learning Dowland on my guitar I love the pre classical period Academy of Ancient music is awesome
also would like to note Jordi Savall kicks ass he is a rock star to me Yea !!
Free Catalonia !
Cataluña is already free you ignorant fuck, Spain is a democratic country
What is the source of "Doma la donna", I can't find it anywhere? It says that it is a reconstruction, of what from where?

Pretty average. Just kidding.
Wonderful music, superbly performed. The photo shows Hopkinson outside (winter?) when trees are leafless & bleak. Here today, our November weather is also harsh, & his lute gives us a welcome warmth. Thanks to all.
Какая прелесть!
Спасибо!
You know, I've come to believe that there is not such thing as a bad Lute composition.
They exist, but they're just not very well remembered.
Gy Bx Hold my beer...
The lute makes bad sound good
Well … there are a great del of quite poor performances though ...
Indeed lml
BEAUTIFUL.
Bella musica, ma continuamente interrotta da pubblicità. Addio.
Hermoso
Замечательная музыка.
