As a cinema enthusiast , Glad that someone actually talked about Priyadarshan. His movies are testament of what great comedy films look like. He is someone who can make audience laugh without effort. If other directors attempted the same It'd come off as cringe or otherwise unfunny.

Priyadashran's movies have socio-economic aspects. He very well depicts the hardships. And cultural aspects, in ChupChupKe the gujrati culture is shown , in khatta meetha Marathi culture is shown. Screenplay is in sync with actors. Actors seem to enjoy too. Had he been a manager of a company he could ensemble a great team.
The secret formula of Priyadarshan's Bollywood comedies is simply buying the remake rights of the original Malayalam versions. That's it! Arguably barring 'Hera Pheri', none of his remakes are as good or funny as their Malayalam originals.
The ones which he remade from his own films are still good but I love his Malayalam films more as they are called as his own films, even if they are loosely inspired from foreign film but even if he adapts so he adapts great by presenting the film beautifully. @@TheRishijoesanu

Well i dont think telling stories or staging can be taught like what you said, yeah it could get improved, because you know it is somehow easy to decode a flavour and patrern of a film or a director but still with all those data nobody could make films or stories like they should have made. The reason is it's not a technical thing otherwise critics and theorists could always have made the best things in the world. What do you think?

Bhai seriously excellent analysis. Some points I knew but learned a lot today. And I would like to add another point here. Priyadarshan sir very rarely (near to zero) uses comic sounds (like 'tonying' etc.) at the end of a punchline. That's why it doesn't feel like "someone is trying to tell you to laugh, because this is a joke(verified by that sound)". It feels very natural and relatable. This is why those memes work.

Priyadarshan didn't know much Hindi but he knew what 'felt' comic and what didn't, so he was successful in extracting best from his actors. But the best thing he did in his whole career was having NEERAJ VORA as his writer. We totally feel his absence in Hungama 2 where certain characters may 'feel' comic but they couldn't hold due to bad writing. RIP Sir.

His movies cannot be explicitly called as "Priyadarshan" movies because he remade all of his movies based on the real Malayalam movies, some his own, but most not his own creation. Those were super hits in Malayalam. He excelled in adapting it for Hindi audiences and also he is an excellent craftsman. Hungama 2 flopped coz the actors were not good enough. You can watch Minnaram movie which is the original by Priyadarshan himself and the difference is evident.
He should have remade more of his own films. Minnaram was too westernized in the character portrayal so it was changed in H2 but I must say that Hungama 2 had a better ending.
He compared the original movies to priyadarshan remakes, and pointed out what was the difference in those movies. So he could accurately understand about his chaotic energy
I was just telling this to my cousin after his recent movie "Marakkar" flopped. That movie should have been a definite hit on paper but it failed so hard that it made me genuinely upset because I was such a huge fan of Priyadarshan Mohanlal combination growing up. Then I realized a lot of his successes came from remaking other works. If we had OTT platforms in the 90s and 2000s, I don't think Priyadarshan would have had such a huge career as he has today.

Priyadarshan's Hindi movies wer so hilarious only because the Malayalam director duo called Siddiq-Lal worked their ass off in writing those stories & dialogues, as simple as that. In fact, Lal mentioned that their writing-directing process where so brutual & rigorous that Lal stopped it completely and concentrated on just acting as it was taking a toll on his personal & mental health.
Accha tabhi Late Siddhique Ismail or Lal alag ho gaye as Lal used be in stress. I would give a watch to their films. Waise Priyettan remade his own films in the best way

As a cinema enthusiast, I love how you talk about the technicality of the movies,there are a lot of foreign creators doing the same for foreign movies but in India most of the youtubers just 'review' the movie not analyse it,mostly due to less capitalisation opportunities on such type of content and the effort to make it (also the audience). Please keep doing such content.
22:52 should watch this scene in the original Malayalam movie ‘Minnaram’ by Mohanlal, Thilakan and Sobhana. Then we will be able to know how a scene is elevated by the actors and their body language. Scene is exact replica. Also what I always fond of Priyadarsan’s works is the shot designs. There will be different layers of people in the shot doing multiple things simultaneously in a wide shot. May the main characters will be placed in the background and in foreground will be some random guy doing something !! ❤ No words to praise the legend!!
Glad that I'm not the only one that notices his immense understanding of blocking and layering. And I also love how he constructs a scene that is true to the characters, like if the characters are in a tense situation or arguing (even if the dialogues are hilarious) he never uses funny sound effect or upbeat music to make fun of the situation, it always just some cleverly designed ambient noise or a very dramatic score. The comedy comes naturally from the absurdity of the situation. Example- Radhe Shyam vs his Wife Anjali, it is an all-timer😂 but to the characters it is heartbreaking.

Priyan's movies also has many small sub plots which connects to the main plot adding to the whole chaos. These sub plots not only brings more laughs per minute but also a breather from the main plot. I feel sub-plots are lesser in the new movies making it drag.
Actually there was a hidden gem in all successful project of priyadarshan in hindi belt. He was Neeraj Vohra the tremendous talented person who was writing screenplay and dialogue for Priyadarshan’s projects in hindi language.’ His absence will be a big challenge for Pryadarshan for sure. Priyadarsan is a Malayalam director. Malayalam movies always had realistic and relatable characters. When a character is more relatable for audience naturally you can feel their emotions and understand their actions better. This grounded realistic approach is what makes Malayalam movies and priyadarsan movies sooo good compared to Bollywood movies.

I have checked Priyadarshan filmography and watched few of his malyalam movies,
I have noted that, he is basically perfecting his own movies.
He has remade less of his own films
From the artistic point of view his Mallu films were better.
Sound quality is top notch aisa lag rha hai meri godi main baith ke saari baate kar rahe ho...

Great video as usual man. Id love to see your analysis on bhoolabhulaiya as a standalone film. It set a benchmark which lets be honest, quite impossible to achieve by Bollywood anytime soon. Man that was a heck of a film even outclassing the tamil version which was shitty as hell. But yet to see the og og Malyalam version which started it all

Priyadarshan's Hindi movies wer so hilarious only because the Malayalam director duo called Siddiq-Lal worked their ass off in writing those stories & dialogues, as simple as that. In fact, Lal mentioned that their writing-directing process where so brutual & rigorous that Lal stopped it completely and concentrated on just acting as it was taking a toll on his personal & mental health.
Accha tabhi Late Siddhique Ismail or Lal alag ho gaye as Lal used be in stress. I would give a watch to their films.

As a cinema enthusiast, I love how you talk about the technicality of the movies,there are a lot of foreign creators doing the same for foreign movies but in India most of the youtubers just 'review' the movie not analyse it,mostly due to less capitalisation opportunities on such type of content and the effort to make it (also the audience).

22:52 should watch this scene in the original Malayalam movie ‘Minnaram’ by Mohanlal, Thilakan and Sobhana. Then we will be able to know how a scene is elevated by the actors and their body language. Scene is exact replica.
Also what I always fond of Priyadarsan’s works is the shot designs. There will be different layers of people in the shot doing multiple things simultaneously in a wide shot. May the main characters will be placed in the background and in foreground will be some random guy doing something !! ❤ No words to praise the legend!!
Glad that I'm not the only one that notices his immense understanding of blocking and layering.
And I also love how he constructs a scene that is true to the characters, like if the characters are in a tense situation or arguing (even if the dialogues are hilarious) he never uses funny sound effect or upbeat music to make fun of the situation, it always just some cleverly designed ambient noise or a very dramatic score.
The comedy comes naturally from the absurdity of the situation.
Example- Radhe Shyam vs his Wife Anjali, it is an all-timer😂 but to the characters it is heartbreaking.
The visual presentation of his films makes him great.

Priyan's movies also has many small sub plots which connects to the main plot adding to the whole chaos. These sub plots not only brings more laughs per minute but also a breather from the main plot. I feel sub-plots are lesser in the new movies making it drag.

Priyadarsan is a Malayalam director. Malayalam movies always had realistic and relatable characters. When a character is more relatable for audience naturally you can feel their emotions and understand their actions better. This grounded realistic approach is what makes Malayalam movies and priyadarsan movies sooo good compared to Bollywood movies.
Very true, iss saal unki Malayalam filmein khoob dekhi and artistically I feel Malayalam ones are better as yahan wali unhone doosre directors se bhi li thi lekin Malayalam wali unki apni thi.
