  • The Dubov Queen's Gambit Declined Tarrasch Variation Explained. Attacking with black against 1.d4 is todays topic in GM-Talk. Daniil Dubov is a brilliant at finding great opening ideas. The variation he restored in 2019 is still doing well and seems to be the mainline in the Tarrasch Variation of the QGD these days. Having been taken up by Carlsen means it got the stamp of approval from the highest level! Today we will have a short run through of the main variations. Including brilliant attacks by Abdussatorov and Dubov.
    1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.Nc3 e6 4.g3 d5 5.cxd5 exd5 6.d4 Nc6 7.Bg2 cxd4 8.Nxd4 Bc5 is the beginning of the variation. It can arise from a long range of openings and is a smart practical choice for black.

    That was already recommended by Tarrasch himself in his classic "The Game of Chess" (1931).

    Btw, to play the Dubov don't you need to know the real Tarrasch too? For example if White plays Bg5 before g3 or delays Nc3. Since the Hennig Schara is also hot at the moment, I suppose White will either be very booked up or play 3.Nf3.

    you said white was weak on the white squares so dubov didnt mind exchanging his dark squared bishop. Why was white weak on the white squares?

      Allready when white plays g3 he weakens f3 and h3. When the whitesquared bishop dissapears it gets worse. Look at it like pieces able to attack white squares and pieces able to defend dark squares

    So the big question, who is your pick in the candidates?? 😀

    • @GMTalks
      @GMTalks  2 роки тому +1

      haha - I pick 3: Ding Liren, Fabiano Caruana and Alireza Firouzja in that order

      There might be many interesting games, just as in the previous Candidates. But I hope Sune mostly ignores the tournament. The Candidates is going to receive a lot of coverage in any event. But there are so many other interesting topics, if Sune doesn't expnain them to us, no one will.

      Since they've changed the tiebreaks to a rapid play-off it could be a bunch of players on shared 1st at the end.
      I think all 8 players have a real chance if on peak form. But in a match against Magnus, I think it would be most interesting to see Firouzja. He starts with two Black games so I don't expect him to take an early lead...

      I'm rooting for Firouzja, but i have a feeling Naka might just surprise everyone. Fabi and Ding are both probably joint favourites, but Naka is something of a banana skin for both those guys.

      A very fighting round 1, Fabi beating Naka, Ding-Nepo 0-1 was a surprise - I wonder if it was a specifik prep against Ding or something he had prepped for Magnus?
      IIrc, there is a famous MVL-Ding game in the Caro-Kann with Ding having doubled e-pawns (for a long time it was a white pawn on e6 actually, but the effect was the same) - one of the most crushing games I've ever seen, especially between GMs.
      And two hard fought draws, Firouzja showed he's willing to play for a win with both colours, and Duda seemed to be winning vs Rapport according to the engine, but I'm not sure how much of a 3500-rating was needed to win it...

    Hello Sune, great video as always. I would have a question on how to reach the dubov tarrasch after 1.d4. Which move order would you recommend?

      I think I figured it out by myself: 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c5 4.cxd5 exd5 5.Nf3 Nc6 6.g3 Nf6 7.Bg2 cxd4 8.Nxd4 Bc5
