Funnily enough, that's what I have as well. Got the R6ii after sticking with DSLRs for 20+ years, and my main thought was, why the heck did I wait so long? I decided the R5ii was a bit of overkill for me, so I saved a bunch of money and just today got my R5. I have the 100-500 and 200-800 which have been really nice on the R6ii; can't wait to see how things go with the R5.
Thanks for the review and analysis. I've always been on Canon but when I decided to quit photography (yes, I know: WHY??) and take a break I was convinced my next camera would be a Sony. After testing both cameras I felt "more at home" with Canon and I never regretted it. Your review reminded me why I went for the R5. What I like most about your videos and shorts: they are informative, funny and even if one knows that you are a Canon guy you never talk ill about the other brands .At t least I did not notice anything major other than some eye twinkling sidekicks to Nikon. Which is fine btw (owned one as well) I'd love to see more comparison content but also more depth and details into features of Canon Cameras. I learned more on your youtube channel than reading the handbook of my cam. :)
The Canon R5 is nice but I ❤ my Sony A7R V, especially paired with the Tamron 35-150mm. I think most cameras that are coming out these days are excellent and it just comes down to your needs and preferences.
I’ve been Canon for life but I don’t think I’m leaving Sony after switching. No company is perfect, but Canon not allowing third party glass is just outrageous, I can’t support a company like that.
I think this year will be the big test. Canon has introduced a lot of "inexpensive" bodies: R10 R50 and now the R100. It would be great to see more lens options for those shooters!
@@bngr_bngrCanon glass is great, but if you're a freelance videographer or a production company using hybrid cameras and not cinema glass, $2500-$3000 for one lens is outrageous, especially if you need 2-3 bodies, and 2 of each lens in some cases.
Love this analysis. Super helpful in expaining the pros and cons of higher end hybrid cameras, especially considering how many different options there are to choose from.
R5 is still competitive but they need to come out with firmware 2.0 (or mark2) that includes all the nice things available even on the lower budget options like R7. AF modes, digital hotshoe, etc. Switching between R7 and R5 right now feels backwards to me, R5 being the one lacking in software, despite being 2.5x more expensive.
Anthony! What are YOU TALKING ABOUT! The R6 Mark II DOES ALLOW CUSTOM MODES! The same as the R5 for both video and photo... you get 3 of them. Exactly the same as the R5 and you don't need the top screen to use them. Also, you can switch modes much faster on the R6 II because of the dedicated video/photo switch and top dial. :)
Great take on your perspective! I am a hobbyist and the R5 is/was too much camera for me when I was looking for a new Rig. I settled on the R6ii and I just love it. It does everything I need it to do and more. If I ever decide to try to make $$ with my hobby I know I will have a great base to start from and in time I will be able to upgrade to something else (the new shiny!). But for now, I will just take my shots and watch your vids! :) Keep it up!
Same, did LOTS of comparisons of the R6 and R5 and then the R6 II was announced and I got it. I'd say the R6 II is even better (unless you need 8K or 4K 120). The R6 II is better in almost any way, and it's way cheaper. And I've compared the 24 and 45 MP files by upscaling the R6 II files in Adobe Camera Raw and there was little to no difference even viewed at 100% on a 5K monitor. If I use the "Enhance" feature, the R6 II files at 45 MP files look even better than the R5 native files. With the $2000 I saved vs getting and R5, I got a 70-200 2.8 lens!
I love the R6ii It's such a great camera (will eventually make a video on it). 24MP is more than enough for most people, and if I'm completely honest... both cameras end up getting used about the same amount when I'm shooting!
I've been looking to upgrading my camera and I've honestly been debating switching to Sony, but the fact that Canon camera's video are close to the Sony's, but having better photo like an FX3 vs R5 it makes me want to stick with Canon
Debateable... I've shot a lot with the R5 before, and now own the A7IV. But the HUUUUUGE takeaway with all the Canon RF cameras is that Canon does NOT allow third party lenses, and the native lenses are expensive. On the other hand with Sony, I bought myself the A7IV along with the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 and it's still cheaper than the R5. For me, maybe the Lumix S5II/S5II X are the best hybrid cameras as of now, as it does more or less of what the R5 can do for much less money.
I'm an amateur photographer, recently retired, and I would hate to be without my R5. I expect that it will be my last camera. I love the thing. But, even more than the body - I love love love the fast 1.2 RF primes. They are very special lenses.
working in a camera store, i think Canon is making the best feeling bodies right now. The materials, button layout, and of course the autofocus are best in the game. Unfortunately The R5 and R6 are also the most returned and DOA cameras ive ever seen. Lots of QC errors or the mainboard just dies within 6 months. If they fixed that it would be perfect. ANTHONY! Weird question. I've been shooting on the M50 for 3 years. It's time to step up BUT, I was GOING TO buy the R7. I don't have an issue shooting APSC obviously BUT, I just found a CANON EOS R WITH THE 24-105 RF kit lens for $800! thats half the price of the R7 WITH A LENS although its the crappy 24-105 NOT the F4 all the way thru. Yes? No? Go for the R7? the R8? Thoughts? Bo
I couldn't disagree more... 24MP cameras are more than enough so there's plenty of options.... but Canon is at the bottom of most not influencer lists.... the closed off Lens Mount is just a huge disadvantage.... anyone who wants to buy a new camera and isn't already bought into a system.... SHOULD get the Panasonic S5II/S5IIx the price is just unmatched by the other brands, you get features that Sony and Canon only lets you use on their Cine line... and you get Sigma, Panasonic and Leica glass... second choice would be the Fuji X-H2s and third would be the Sony A7s III.... Canon just doesn't offer anything that the other cameras don't have except that it's more expensive
A few reasons, big one mentioned in the video is higher resolution photos, more video options, more connectivity, and honestly... I really love the top screen. That said the R6ii is a great option at it's price point; but technically the R5 is still a more spec'd-out camera!
Hey Hi sir I text you on Instagram couple of days back I need a suggestion about taking a new camera 😅 I want to be a professional photographer I am planning to get into doing diploma course For that I need a camera I already have 600D conon but I need to upgrade can you please help me with it
R5 ? Now ? You should drop your fanboysm and be more objective. Love how you skipped the comparation with nikon z8, but mention the nikons autofocus being bad. Good luck with that purple tint.
The Nikon Z8 is in another class of expensive. If you had said Z9 I'd maybe take your comment seriously, but it also sounds like you didn't watch the video I posted right after this where I said the Z9 is the new camera to beat at this price point.

Yes? No? Go for the R7? the R8? Thoughts?

@@alex--gall kinda but not really, why?
@alex--gall I'd be more curious why you ask? I'm kinda poor, but see a future in UA-cam, why?
Fuji please
Good information, but I’m gonna stick with my Sony.
Sony all day
Yeah sorry me with a RP and a 24-50 f4.5-6.
Make Sony camera review
So why not the R6 II?
A few reasons, big one mentioned in the video is higher resolution photos, more video options, more connectivity, and honestly... I really love the top screen. That said the R6ii is a great option at it's price point; but technically the R5 is still a more spec'd-out camera!
Sony a7 iv...
why did u bring nikon up?😂😂😂😂
R5 still miles ahead any Sony camera, they are all crippled to make the A1 look good
Hey
Hi sir
I text you on Instagram couple of days back I need a suggestion about taking a new camera 😅
I want to be a professional photographer I am planning to get into doing diploma course
For that I need a camera I already have 600D conon but I need to upgrade can you please help me with it
R5 ? Now ? You should drop your fanboysm and be more objective.
Love how you skipped the comparation with nikon z8, but mention the nikons autofocus being bad.
Good luck with that purple tint.
The Nikon Z8 is in another class of expensive. If you had said Z9 I'd maybe take your comment seriously, but it also sounds like you didn't watch the video I posted right after this where I said the Z9 is the new camera to beat at this price point.
wow gimme dat lmao
