I really like the way you explain everything to the co-pilot :) Especially the part about the night time white lights at the minimums :) Was nice to watch.
Because it was a VOR/DME approach and not straight in ILS approach. You are approaching towards a VOR and then turn into your rwy heading, in theory it is a little more complicated but for sake of explanation I made it simple :)

It was VOR approach and becouse at EPWA airport VOR (OKC) is located to the north of the runways' crossing, while inbound flight VOR flight path is slightly to the left from RWY 29's extended CL.
