That’s the great thing about this series as a whole. Doesn’t play around a lot with the feelings of each character. Once you meet them and learn their backstory you start to have an understanding of their mentality and what makes them who they are. Best slice of life series that I’ve seen in a while.

The way they just captured the feelings of ilulu when she stepped into the shop just by making things go "slow" and quiet while playing that magical music. It's amazing.

People said season 2's pacing was faster and more comedic, but it quickly became obvious they had no intentions to change anything.

Ilulu finding her lost childhood makes this briefly more wholesome than Kanna.
What I liked the most is that Tohru only put her hand on the back of Ilulu's head and she bowed by herself. Considering how much at odds they were, it's really nice of Tohru to subtly give Ilulu some conduct advices.

See that's what the power of a Slice of life Anime supposed to be like. These moments proves alone that this show is in good hands now.
Can't agree more I know an anime that got a new director and didn't get the love and passion the last one had and I was a bit worried that the same thing would happen again but now I think its safe to say that I can put that fear to rest

The genuine laugh she gave out, that laugh of an old person looking at something innocent is impactful to me. It means that despite enduring a whole long life on the painful, sad planet, they were able to find and maintain a soft heart and an appreciation for beauty in others. I hope when I’m at the end of my journey here I’ll still be able to laugh like that.
Mate, Japan is a well-off, rich country with strong social security. Living there is neither painful nor sad.
I once hear a quote from George Lucas and it really stuck with me:

Even tho quick and ( a little religiously) sinful things might give you a high of happiness, the long term happiness is the virtuous selfless life with people close to you.

@@vassalofthenight9945 not quite tho it really depends on were you live in you live in the county perhaps you can have a peaceful life but the big city lifestyle can only be describe as soulsucking. Japan as well as many places of Asia has a poor quality of life due to social norm and taboos that crush younglings spirits although it doesn't really matter were you live, life itself wear you off, the same old same old day shut you down so watching someone younger with determination kinda fill you up with the same energy

Well if I'm not mistaken this season of Dragon Maid is the first episodic animation and only the second new project that Kyoto Animation has put out since the 2019 arson attack.

This season really was something special. Illulu was a great addition to the cast.
Not that i don't enjoy second season but somehow, this episode felt the most emotional since Ilulu showed up. We had laugh and fun but moments like these, where its all about typical , everyday life and simple stuff... I hope we have more episodes like these on the way
Well that could be because season one was introducing the main cast so we split between everyone adapting to the human world. Everything was new every day. This season is focusing more on one person acclimating slowly.
@@juliandavidhoffer2022 Yeah, Tohru by this point seems pretty acclimated to the human world. We can see from context clues that she's even been getting involved with the local community, which is very sweet. She probably knows more of the neighborhood and town than Kobayashi does at this point. It could be my imagination, but does Tohru seem more mellowed out this season compared to last? She seems less bombastic and has more moments where she's actually quite calm. And she seems to have gotten pretty good at being a maid now too, whereas last season she was having trouble with almost everything.

@@juliandavidhoffer2022 I have a feeling that this is going to backfire in some way before the season ends. Maybe she realizes that she's changed a lot and doesn't like it, or maybe she realizes that she likes the change but it doesn't help her get closer to Kobayashi and it upsets her.

@@ShadeSlayer1911 it’s a light hearted SoL story so I don’t think it would be that dramatic. She already had the drama of her father telling her she will have to watch Kobayashi grow old and die. Honestly that’s probably how the series should end we see Kobayashi on her bad talking to Touru and Kaana reminiscing and then she dies and we get like a three minute music ED showing moments from the show. Hopefully that’s a few seasons away though.

@@anonyme4881 Just stop the budget thing! I'm so sick hearing it every single time I see good animation. More budget DOES NOT EQUAL better quality; this is the case for 3D but not 2D which anime is made of. "better working conditions" is a much more appropriate and correct term.

More budget can equals more animators and more workers.
More budget also means more time to release the anime because it allow to pay salary for munch longer, so more work done.
And budget allow deeper animators training.
Its only when you have a talented and trained team that budget doesnt matters anymore, like Ufotable for exemple
The most important thing in 2d animation is time and training.
Thats why Kyoto Animation does a lot of experiments in their anime. To build up a better crew
But still money can buy those things. And with the incident on Kyoto's studio, Im sure they put up a somewhat budget to be sure of making a comeback

Ilulu is so precious. Like every character in this story. I really love this anime and Kyoani too.

The princess of chaos faction teaching a radical chaos dragon how to be polite. I won't be surprised either if Elma is somewhere in that candy shop's corner.
I love Tohru's growth. Reminding Ilulu of bowing down was such a mature gesture of her. Despite all her shenanigans and temper, she knows profound sadness all too well. 1:23 She sees that Ilulu really wants this, and immediately starts helping her out. She really just wants everyone to be happy. Ahhh...this show is just so nice, funny and wholesome.

Thoru putting her hand on the back of Iluru’s head telling her to bow was a big moment and I wish it got more attention.
She may be a bit abrasive and distrustful of Iluru, especially since she almost wrecked the city and ended up lazing around their house but when push comes to shove, Thoru wants Iluru to be happy.
Exactly dude words cannot express how much that moment just. It like, wrapped up the entire scene in a wonderful way. After all that's happened the bow at the end just tops it off. I'm so happy for Illulu bro
I've always btw disliked how Tohru's dearing characteristics get overshadowed by the fandom's big tiddy meme nature, Tohru basically just gets no praise at all, bc there's other dragons that grab their attention (for reasons obv), but she's such a kind hearted character. top 3 easily
Thoru might not show it, but she wants everyone to be happy. Even Elma.
One thing I love about Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is how, despite everything, the characters are still characters and treated as such. They have feelings, they have their own personalities, they have things they care about, things they like, etc.
I love moments like this when watching any show.

It would really wholesome if Ilulu keeps running the shop after the old woman dies, then still after Take eventually will, and if she just kept running it out of sentimentality for generations. She's a dragon, so human lifespans will pass her by in the blink of an eye. Then, if nothing unfortunate happens, several generations will have passed. Rumors spread among the children of that age that there's an ancient candy shop in the depths of the now developed city that a woman has been running for over a hundred years, maybe more, which hasn't changed a bit since anyone can remember. Maybe one day, one of those kids becomes curious enough to actually try and find it despite nobody believing it. And then they find the old hut, and walk in to see the now much older Ilulu. Maybe she's worn and jaded, maybe she's just happy to finally have a customer in this forgotten shop. The candy there is just as ancient as her, many of them having gone out of production decades ago. Most have gone stale. It looks like the place was frozen in time, like an old memory that refuses to be forgotten.
She and the kid talk. For hours. As it happens, the rumors were true. She tells the kid about how the world was far before their time, about her old friends who have long since either passed or left. Maybe Tohru was so heartbroken over Kobayashi's lesser lifespan that she disappeared one day and was never seen again. Maybe Elma, having lost her once rival and then friend, returned to the old world disillusioned and lacking purpose. Maybe Lucoa found a new life in this world, and managed to get somewhere important, gaining in part her old status back...only to lose it to her own hubris. Again. Maybe Fafnir followed in Tohru's footsteps and left this world as well, becoming a recluse once more. Maybe Kanna adapted to this world and made a good life for herself. And Ilulu has just been here this whole time, trying her best to keep this tiny memory together as long as possible so that she could remember the good old days when everyone was still together. And now, the only people who still know it even exists are her great great great grandchildren and now this child.
God, I should turn this into a full-fledged fanfic.
