No but that was just a tale to throw people off as he was probably coerced into leaving after he obtained enough gold to live out his short live-he was a lunger-besides you have to research the entire story of Bicknell's life and that is a hard search on the internet- took me years!!
It hasn't been, the gold from the "Dutchman" was tested, recorded, and has no equal found in Arizona. His Vein of Gold remains undiscovered. That is so amazing, considering all the People who have searched, and those that searched with the benefit of his direct clues. What I find absolutely confounding is "How they went all that time and Never sat down and recorded the directions". I can't accept the story they Makes no sense, or as they say where I'm from: "That dog just won't hunt"
I love re-watching these videos, and one of the things i've always thought about is The Dutchman said he had 50 of those cans buried all over the place, he never said they were all buried on his property alone, gives ya something to think about but i guess that's just another one of the Mysteries Of The Superstition Mountains.
The last strange death was Walter Gassler who was found dead in 1980's on one of his lone treks into the Superstitions after saying he found the mine and even providing an ore sample. Later a man claiming to be his son went to Bob Corbin the attorney general of Arizona got the map and the manuscript Glassler had been writing. Another man also claimed to be Glassler son it turned out to be the real Glassler. The odd thing was why didn't Corbin give the map and manuscript back to Glasslers wife who would be the heir to anything Walter Gassler had after his passing. They never even made a photocopy of map either. The man who likely stole the gold ore from his backpack ended up with the map was there any attempt to even find that man.
You know guys this is my professional advice about this topic. You know it would take alot of interest in me to just go out there and look for the Dutchman's Gold Mine without their being more of a emphasis on me to do it bc IT'S SOO HOT THERE WHEN THEY LEFT and you'd have't promise me that we would find something at the least out there if we looked for it. Soo what's this map Jake drew for Julia? I keep telling people that the mine is soo hard to find and in a bad posistion against a rock face that you'd have such a hard time getting to it due to the rugged area it lies in.
Only a few people have them and only share them with other Dutch Hunters but there are many diff. copies- so be careful of what people say they have I have 4 diff. versions and dissected them in what I believe is the truth but of course I was not born yet at that time Que Pasa' ?
@@jacksanfelice8840 I comprende! It seems it will be a neverending story / mystery! Thanks for all the information and great stories. All you guys are a treasure.
What is the timeline from digging up the oyster can of gold and flood? Because that makes me wonder where all that buried gold went. Could he have spent that much? All he had at his death not to long after was under his bed correct? I would love to know what you guys think about this question. Great job Jack as always!
heh, since we don't know where he hid it.... maybe it's still buried? Also, I'm not sure if he was saying he had many cans of it, or was simply saying how much gold.
1800s & early 1900s floods washed all the cans downstream prob. to CA the cans were beaten open by the bashing of them against rocks and ore wash down stream!!
Jack, what happened to all the gold Jake deposited into Wells Fargo? I believe it was a considerable amount of money. Jake should of left that to Helena by way of a will.
The young fella that was 19 years old the wound up going out on a load of buckshot must be the guy that they based Edgar G Robinson's character on in mackenna's gold because in that movie he didn't go blind he was blinded by the Apaches when they burned his eyes out foreseeing the gold
I love these stories. But I have a serious question. Why can't they flyover these areas using infrared equipment? If there is a shaft it should show much colder from the cool air exiting the shaft.
That has been done and many of these old shafts arre now closed where gold was found or now in Wilderness Area of FOREST where illegal to mine but not prospect you go figure? Thanks
The mine was found in January, 1960. In an episode of Maverick, Beau Maverick played by Roger Moore met The Dutchman and was led to the mine by him. They had the gold but it was cursed. Anyone who touched it died a violent death. Also, the Dutchman didn’t die at Julia’s. He died from an Apache arrow in his back.
I would like to write a new book containing four key parts-1 my search and the stories I have found since my book was published probably about 200-240 pages but since my recent back injury I probably would synopsize that even smaller. Cant stay at comp. more that 1 hr per day> keep praying that my back heals Jack

Jack is a good story teller but he spent most of his life elsewhere. Imagine how much more he would have uncovered had he been born and raised in the area.
Rolando-Many have searched even digging up under Jakes Adobe but my belief is that the great floods of the Salt River during the late 1800s and early 1900s moved any of those cans down stream and broke open those cans and scattered the ore to CA. The people of that era did not know about the cans of ore because it was only revealed to Reiney and Julia and they never revealed that info. Would you !!! Jack
The timeline was that the box was under the bed at Julia's house before the flood-I believe that he moved the box from his house to Julia's just before the flood and was probably going back for the cans of ore when he was caught in the flash flood. In the desert it is not hard to be caught in a flash flood. Each year many people i the Phoenix area get caught in flash floods and some people do not understand the power of a flash flood and try to drive through flooded areas and they and their vehicles are washed downstream and perish. While hiking in the mountains one year we were caught in a flash flood but moved to higher ground before the place where we were was overwhelmed with fast moving water. See the video on Jenkins Lost Gold for and example of a flash flood. Thanks for comment!! Jack
@@jacksanfelice8840 one more question if Mr waltz made stash's wouldn't one think they would be in the low foot Hill's or flat desert on his way back to his home ? Seems it would be easier for old man to find them and access them instead of back in the mountains close to his sources

Good job researching the back story.
Bicknell in 1895 said it was within 5 miles of Weaver's Needle, so Weaver's Needle was not a late invention.
