Thanks for posting this Andrew! I think many people overreacted with Paul’s AI comment and am glad that Sean clarified what was happening. I see this as a positive. If people are against it then they don’t have to listen to it. There is a potential for many projects in the future so let’s hope they become a reality. Thanks again!
I’m incredibly excited about “Now and Then” finally being released. I remember imagining what the Beatles could have done to the track when I listened to the drone filled haunting piano demo back in 2008 on UA-cam. I really hope the single sleeve follows the design on the anthology singles, with the canvas back with information on the creation and recordings of the tracks.
If they do make it an EP, it could be like the Anthology EPs, with the John songs + 3 bonus tracks not on the albums. The tracks could be like: Now And Then (or another John demo) Don't Pass Me By (AKA Ringo's Tune) I Will (60+ outtakes. There's gold in them tapes) Something (early April sessions
Just when I think the well of new Beatles projects has run dry, technology finds a way to keep the content coming. I will keep buying/watching/listening to these new projects because I am a hopeless Beatles fan. I'm looking forward to the immersive Holodeck version of each album where you get to be in the studio with The Beatles as they created their iconic songs. Having John or Paul ask me my opinion on a take will be very cool. I might even sit in on the drums whilst Ringo takes a break.
I'm excited for the new song, and I'm sure Paul, Ringo, and the families of John and George will see to it that it's done right. My only concern is the source and quality of George's contributions from the abandoned sessions. His guitar playing was always so thoughtfully and specifically crafted to a tune that it would be a disservice to go with half-hearted attempts or drop in clips from unrelated sessions. We can only hope that what they have of George is good, or otherwise Olivia and Dhani would have nixed it... just as I am sure they have nixed a release of the Hamburg tapes.
From what i understand, George (along with Paul and Ringo) already recorded their finished parts for "Now and Then" long ago, but decided not to release it due to the John vocal. So, everything should be done already.
@@trekkiejunkthey only recorded a backing track when they decided to give it up. It definitely is not finished and will require current day recordings to be added. It probably means George doesn’t feature much in it. But then, there are plenty of Beatles songs that don’t feature all 4 members.
@@walrusgumboothowever this is very different. This isn’t The Ballad Of John and Yoko, for example. A part-posthumous project must equally represent all four Beatles. Now and Then doesn’t feel like a song which would necessarily have a middle 8 so maybe the backing track is tasteful, however, lead embellishments by Paul is not a bad thing. Think Taxman or Good Morning Good Morning
@@tristramadams1342 I don’t agree that it must “equally represent all four”. That isn’t going to happen, they didn’t record enough with George for him to feature much. Totally agree about it being fine for Paul to add the embellishments/solo etc as per the songs you reference.
As a 16 year old Beatles fan, I'm very excited about the new Beatles song, and I've been messing about with "AI" (or neural network) audio extraction technology, like was used on the revolver box set, Get Back, etc. On my channel I've already posted a version of "Now And Then" remixed in stereo using that technology, and most, if not all of the things you mentioned in your video, as possible things for Peter Jacksons team to work on, are completely plausible. The main issue, would be the star club tapes. I've tried de-mixing and remixing those recordings, and even with the help of audio denoising, and vocal isolation technology, the vocal sound can't really be improved, but isolation and remixing of the instrumentation of those recordings can be done and is easy. Anyways, hope this educated people!
I can attest that the tech is not capable of handling some material without input customization to delineate bass from low end noise, for instance. I have reluctantly abandoned potential projects bc it isn't up to snuff to the Jackson tech....yet. 🤞
@@ignatzmuskrat3000No they're not. I've remixed loads into very convincing stereo by creating a multitrack with Izotope RX and RipX. Im not allowed toplay you stereo BBC/Love Me Do stuff but try it yourself. Hamburg is much harder because of the limited bandwidth. You can certainly create a stereo mix without using echo etc. However, PJ's tech is supposedly a few steps better than RX/RipX and PJ himself said he'd like to restore Hamburg.
Thanks, Andrew. I'm glad you added another calming voice to what so quickly became a weird rumor mill on the internet. If the new song is indeed Now and Then, I'm glad they could finally extract John's vocals better and bring the song out for release. I agree, a new Anthology (with Blu-rays) would be ideal, especially if treasures like the Star Club tape and Carnival of Light could be included! Hopefully an announcement will come soon.
I’m in favor of using AI for Now & Then. I just hope they also refurbish John’s vocals on Free As A Bird and Real Love. Not to mention Live at Star Club!
A very cogent piece, Andrew. The Beatles legacy has always been one of invention and innovation so I think the proposed Now and Then release is entirely in keeping with this.
Thanks Andrew!! "AI Technology" already has a bad name out there. People attaching this term with someone singing singing a song from another artist (something that was never intended in the first place). This should not be confused with "Demixing Technology" - which was used to separate instruments/vocals in last year's Revolver reissue. I'm hoping the song in question is "Now & Then", and that they use pieces of the mid 1990s attempt for the finished song - so that it is truly a collab of all 4 Beatles. Regarding a possible Anthology 4, it would be nice to have the full version of "Leave My Kitten Alone" in stereo, the 8 minute version of "It's All Too Much" in stereo, a decent mix of the second version of "That Means A Lot", a release of the May 1967 recording of "You Know My Name - Look Up The Number", the 9 minute version of "Flying" in stereo. There's many more first time "official" mixes that could be added as well.
AI is a technology that used voices for Uberduck, 15, etc. where they used voices in cartoons, TV shows, movies and famous celebrities, as well as cartoon characters like the cast from “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic”, and it has a huge fanbase for fans of the G4 era especially the whole family.
Fantastic "extra, see all about it" video which warms my heart and fills it with hope for exciting things to come. Yes, it's a guess, I know, but a very well-informed one, so... Thanks, Andrew.
Thanks Andrew 👍 Interesting video as always. I am really looking forward to the new song, and having heard the Unfinished version floating around on the net, actually think a finished Beatles version could possibly be the best of the three Anthology revamps. The song has a beautiful melody and vocal by John. Surely they will re-issue the Anthology series. Anthology 4 could sit nicely as the LIVE Anthology part of the series, with the star club tapes covering 2 vinyl discs as in the past, and the third containing more Get Back outtakes before an official vinyl rooftop concert release. It would be the perfect opportunity to finally release the Let It Be movie officially also, as promised. The mind boggles what the future could hold for new Beatles releases, mainly live concerts from all over the world, already available on poor bootlegs, but Remastered with AI for a great live series, especially Shea, Japan, & Melbourne. All the best 👍 Jase
A great video again Andrew & personally I'm with you on a revamped Anthology Blu-Ray set plus an Anthology 4 CD/Vinyl set to accompany it for this Christmas market! The Now & Then single will be promoted & could be a strong contender for the Christmas 2023 Number One
Some Beatles fans probably thought Revolution no 9 was a Frankenstein creation back in 1968! I will make no judgement on this new John song until I hear it.
Spot on, Andrew!!! The "Now And Then" release can only be related to a well deserved rework on the Anthology series! And it's about time! I can't wait for a "Rubber Soul" boxset but I think it's coming anyway, even if not now.
I love the song Now And Then. It's an absolutely beautiful melody. I can't imagine what George wouldn't have liked about it besides the problems with sound quality.
Well, you must remember George had a bad attitude towards Johns latter day songwriting for some reason, mentioning that he thought the quality of Lennons music had declined over the years. It’s probably George just being contrary to be contrary.
John’s writing had definitely changed in his interim period between 1975 and 1980, a lot of his later songs are medium-slow ballads, which was probably George’s issue (he felt John’s writing had been “going off a bit towards the end.”) Double Fantasy received near-unanimous negative reviews upon release, a lot of people simply just didn’t think that style suited him. To me it’s John matured, mellower and wiser.
Should be a treat to hear what gets released! Can you make a video talking about the album 'The Golden Beatles'? It's a Beatles interview album but has a rap at the start and some of the interview parts barely sound like the Beatles. Very weird and I can't find any information on it. It'd be cool to hear more about it and I'm glad to see so many videos from 'ya!
Well I’ve always thought Now and Then b/w A Carnival of Light would be similar to the Let It Be b/w You Know My Name Look Up the Number single; a beautiful song and a whacky song. Glad I found you tonight (morning) … making my slumber a lot more pleasant. You see Andrew, you’ll not be able to ever stop buying The Beatles. There’s more to do with technology now so endless possibilities. At 70, I love it! AI if used properl then I’m for it. What’s being done on UA-cam hasn’t peaked my interest at all. Great show! Till the weekend cheers mate! Great job again
thanks for this video, great as always, I am with you on this one ,really looking forward to hearing it, just hope it is not just going to be a download, we have been waiting so long for something like this, cheers, keep up the good work, Dave
Hi Andrew, this was a great video! There are many videos on youtube with theories from here to oblivion. Your theory made the best sense overall. Great job.
Andrew, in my opinion you are best Beatles UA-camr. Every week new and interesting content, even your recent Kinks and top British LP episodes. Thanks, keep up the great work.
I agree completely - there is a fine line, and yet perversely a big difference between restoration, and creation. I personally think Paul is just showing his age as there are many of his generation that see or hear anything coming out of a hard drive as "AI" (my 87 year old mother for example). I think as with so much technology, the application is just as important as the tech itself. What was previously unlistenable due to hiss, surface noise, overload, distortion and the kitchen sink, with AI these recordings can become not only listenable but enjoyable too and this can only be a good thing. But the creation of something that did not previously exist crosses that fine line and is a step too far for me. I'm just going to assume the new song has been "digitally restored" with the use of "AI" and I look forward to hearing it. Thanks for a great video and a great channel.
I don’t know; I think Paul knew exactly what he was doing calling it “AI”. He knew it would get attention. Remember John saying how great of a PR man Macca has always been? You can be sure that hasn’t changed.
Now And Then was the best song of the 3 tracks selected for Anthology. Here's hoping AI can do something worthy of the Beatles. The one thing I would love to hear our robot overlords take on is the complete removal of Yoko's insufferable wailing on the John, Paul and Ringo rage jam the day that George walked out during the Get Back sessions. Do robots perform miracles?
Hi - I'll just say that you lift the task splendidly - as usual. Fans 'n' band are in good hands whenever you move. Mi amore de felice corazons from here ^
A few notations: Regarding the June, 1994 sessions as it pertains to John Lennon demos. My feeling is a lot of the inferences on the June 23rd session at Friar Park has been overblown. I don't believe that any work was performed on John Lennon's demos during that particular session as it was largely set up as a "camera-conscious" affair ostensibly to film a new version of "Let It Be" which was being looked upon as a possible concluding segment for the "Anthology" tv series. This didn't happen and instead Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr spent the day reminiscing and jamming on some oldies (footage of which eventually surfaced on the "Anthology" DVDs in 2003). Additionally, Jeff Lynne and Marc Mann didn't actually begin work on either "Now and Then" or "Real Love" until the winter of 1994, preparing a rough instrumental demo of both songs as templates for The Beatles to use in arranging both compositions. So I find it hard to believe that without those templates in place that any substantive work was done on either song prior to the February, 1995 sessions at Hogg Hill with "Now and Then" being the first song that was attempted to be converted and "Real Love" the second (chronologically making "Real Love" the true 3rd Beatles reunion track). The idea of a remastered and relaunched version of the "Anthology" project intrigues me to no end but it is what I would term to be an ambitious idea in the truest sense of the word especially if we are looking at the short-term versus the marathon. Same essentially for an archive release of "Rubber Soul" as no doubt that the release of this upcoming "last Beatles record" would cannibalize any "Rubber Soul" archive at least for the time being as exciting as a "Rubber Soul" archive in and of itself could potentially be.
Hi Andrew , I think this is great news , about the Beatles last song , and the possibility’s it could open up , including an updated version of Anthology ‘box set or even Anthology 4 , I’m well up for it , I wait with anticipation for any news on it can’t wait
1) The first thing the Beatles need to do after Now and Then is use the same technology on Free as a Bird and Real Love. If these are the last three Beatles songs ever they need to each equal each other in quality. They did their best in the 90s, but having Johns vocals and Piano sound more "In the room" than "From a Cassette tape" would probably give Paul and Ringo what they want. A lasting coda to the band that doesn't sound kitschy. 2) As for the Anthology itself. I wholeheartedly agree with you. It needs updating badly. Both the Albums and the Video series. The way things are now, I doubt they will go the 1,2,3 route again, but probably release an anthology box set. Why not? Start with the really old stuff like Anthology 1 did and expand on it, Star Club, Cavern Club(There has to be more out there than just "Some Other Guy"), the Decca Sessions(Again, I'm sure more is out there). Anthology 1 pretty much barrels through the early years to get to Hard Days Night and then crashes through to end on Beatles For Sale. So by the time you get to Anthology 2 you dont really get the scope of whats all happened. Plus the first disk of Anthology 2 is kind of jarring. Like you're on a missile. You start with "Yes it is" and then fall back into "I'm down" then sort of waft over "Help" then straight into their most prolific period. Rubber Soul and Revolver. Which from the Revolver box set we know the Anthology barely even touched. So its like disc one crammed all the evolution into a tiny bag...desperate to get to disk two...Pepper. And even that excursion is shattered by the inclusion of Lady Madonna which should have kicked off Anthology three. I honestly would have split the three up into 4 and stuck to a creative period "Anthology 1 - The Raw Beatles Anthology 2 - The Fab Four Anthology 3 - The Creative/Psychedelic age and Anthology 4 - Get Back to basics. Do the same thing with the Video Series. They can pretty much gloss over the Get Back period because the Get Back movie fleshes that out. The Anthology should pretty much have the feel of how most people who are into the Beatles view the story. 4 really distinct times. If anyone thinks the leather clad rock band that played Hamburg and the Cavern and those 4 lads on the Ed Sullivan show were the same band....they are crazy!! In as much as the 4 guys who created Rubber Soul and Revolver were NOT the same band that play Ed Sullivan and the 4 guys on the Rooftop of Abbey Road were not the same 4 guys in the Sgt Pepper uniforms. Strictly speaking from a creative standpoint of course. In as much as...The Beatles ability to reinvent themselves so successfully so often WAS a huge part of the story. They didn't CROSS genes...they CREATED them. The Anthology should reflect that in a way that makes non Beatles fans go "Oh MAN! You mean THOSE guys from GET BACK did THAT?!?!" I think sometimes the impact gets lost in all the piecemeal releases. People who heard the Pepper box set and then the Abbey Road box set may have gone "Huh?" with The White Album and Let it Be and then 'What the?!?" With Revolver. The newbees are not getting it linear like us old fogies. The Anthology can put it back in perspective. When you see baby John, Paul George and Ringo bouncing around on a stage in the basement and then KNOW what came with Abbey Road.......the impact is MASSIVE. If Paul and Ringo want that final underline and exclamation point on the band....in my honest opinion, this would be it. And maybe a 4th song?! >:) "Grow Old With me"?!? ;) I can only hope. Besides, how can you have an Anthology with only 3 parts to it....THERE ARE 4 Beatles. 😁
9:30 - Very good point - I whinged about Disney Plus right before I heard you talk about your love of the Beatles. I have that love as well, so...okay...I'll do what I did last time - hang onto the channel til the DVD arrives at my doorstep.
I also made a video about this news but I must say that this one is way better and I'm 100% going to use your videos as a inspiration for my future videos because I love how clear all your stuff is!
Thanks Andrew your thoughts are mine exactly. Anthology 4, or a full upgrade extended complete Anthology 1,2,3 with now and then kicking off anthology 3 as it should have but I don't think they would do that as it would make the original anthology 3 redundant. Or maybe they would do that. But I'm thinking Hamburg tapes and lots of live stuff will be in there as that's the stuff that couldn't and hasn't been utilised yet. And the tech makes it doable. Can't wait, saving up the pennies
Hi Andrew, I wondered if it was a double A side of Now and Then and maybe Grow old with me on the flip? I agree with what you think and I reckon we are long overdue a proper release of the star club tapes complete and sounding as great as they can be. After all Apple now own the tapes so it could be a version they are finally happy with? other things I would love to hear? what about the show at Stowe? Shea Stadium? so many possibilities. I think having Peter Jackson involved is a must he is a huge Beatles fan so he is emotionally invested so it is a labour of love which we would all benefit from. Let's see!
Just throwing this out there. Tell me what you think. The project that they could be working on with Peter Jackson, could be a soundtrack to the get back DVD. And of course they will give it a deluxe treatment CD/Blu-ray etc. The new song would be a great way to lead off this new set. Fantastic video by the way! Thank you!
I actually got a friend to clean up the now and then demo months ago using one of these ai music ripping tools and it turned out amazing, way better than what I was able to do with similar tools back in 2020, so yeah, tools like this for enhancing and restoring already existing work are great
Another great video Andrew .. have you seen Paul’s tweet from yesterday? “Been great to see such an exciting response to our forthcoming Beatles project. No one is more excited than us to be sharing something with you later in the year. We’ve seen some confusion and speculation about it. Seems to be a lot of guess work out there. Can’t say too much at this stage but to be clear, nothing has been artificially or synthetically created. It’s all real and we all play on it. We cleaned up some existing recordings - a process which has gone on for years. We hope you love it as much as we do. More news in due course - Paul” So project? Recordings (plural!) Exciting times to come!!
Another track I hope is released in this supposed Anthology revamp is whatever was recorded of “All For Love”. Whether Paul finishes it fully, or just has the raw studio sessions he did with George and Ringo back in 1995. Now that just makes me want Paul and Ringo to record the songs Paul and John gave away like A World Without Love, Nobody I Know, Woman, Etc…
"All For Love" has always been a rumor that has never been confirmed and more recently debunked. It's rumored existence was largely based upon the fact that it emanated out of a report by a respected Beatles journalist and thus had more teeth than the usual "grist for the mill" report. However, there was never any independent confirmation of the existence of such a track. Nobody had reported hearing it, seeing physical evidence of it existing (such as a tape box or recording memorandum) or outside of a reported casual conversation with Paul McCartney in 1995 even a public acknowledgement of the track. As it pertains to it's debunking, a few years back Olivia and Dhani Harrison were asked about "All For Love" (the first time that anyone associated with The Beatles or Apple were directly asked about the song) and both denied it's existence. The general consensus is that the rumor was likely due to a faux pas having to do with the song "Real Love".
Thanks Andrew for such a good video. If you only read the headlines it sounds as though Paul is creating some kind of Frankenstein's monster but as Sean says, they have been using noise cleaning technology for a long time and I'm sure that's what they are doing. And if Paul is adding a middle 8 and/or a solo then good luck to him -it's not as though he's unqualified. Are we certain that it's Now and Then? I'd love to think Paul and Sean had a big surprise for us. Very interesting.
I think revitalizing the Star Club tapes with Peter Jackson's software would be a milestone that would open up ALL the Beatles early works for remixing. Hearing the Please Please Me sessions even better than what George Martin heard would be utterly amazing. I probably would say, "I can die now."
Thanks, Andrew. I’m looking forward to the new track. The versions already available on UA-cam show that the song has a decent melody. A reworked Anthology sounds great…. There must be loads of interview material on the cutting room floor from the Jools Holland interviews. A Rubber soul box set is also something exciting to look forward to. Amazing isn’t it?
Thanks Michael. The shirt is from The Beatles store (not sponsored!): www.thebeatlesonline.co.uk/thebeatles/MENS-POLOS/Unisex-Polo-Shirt-Yellow-Submarine/6KLC246I000
I find this all completely fascinating. I'm as curious as the next guy what Now and Then will sound like. I hope they remix ALL the tracks from Anthology 1, 2, 3...and do a 4th. The idea of that happening is rather exciting. I often wonder whether the AI stuff can be used to enhance the tone of individual instruments...and then remixed again....especially on the early stuff.
Thanks for this very interesting and informative video regarding the news of (if in fact it is) the release of “Now and Then”. As for me, I will watch, buy, stream, beg borrow or steal, lol, anything new regarding the greatest band of all time. Long Live THE BEATLES!
i found four demo's in spotify the songs were: A beginning (anthology 3 version Not guilty (esher demo) step inside love / los paranoias ( studio jam) Goodbye (home demo) though there were many more demo's
I love how ghost like John looks in the thumbnail hehe - I’m all for new technology to enhance our experience as fans and to be able to see and listen to stuff we thought was lost to bad quality. While I would love something like ABBA’s Voyage, I’m not sure how the general public would react. Thanks Andrew, it’s always nice to hear your thoughts, even of speculative nature
I wonder if this technology could bring some of rougher early demos and live stuff up to a releasable quality - and maybe a "de-screamed" version of one of the US shows could be included in one of the future deluxe editions.
Great video Andrew as always. Looking forward to the new track. Yep I'm thinking an updated and expanded Anthology series is in the pipeline. Hopefully including any recordings that have been rediscovered in the past 20 years or so and of course the recent Stowe School tapes. Also would be a great opportunity to finally hear a few cleaner versions of the Star Club recordings (f*** it, lets have the lot!) and Carnival Of Light. It's 60 years since that pivotal year 1963...will PM and RS be around for the 70th? Of course I hope they will but the harsh reality is it's unlikely by that time they'd be able to produce something worthwhile. It's now or never for that one last song. I'm also intrigued to know if Jeff Lynne is involved with the new track. I know he remixed FAAB and RL for the 1 dvd remix. Also now wondering if those two tracks will also be treated with the new technology as I think they'd really benifit from it!
4:00 I think this is the problem with using the term 'AI' in this scenario for The Beatles. People instantly think its creating a sample of John;s voice to make a new recording. I know the term was used to get headlines tho. But it has muddied the waters a bit. I am very excited to hear this, I think we all presume its 'Now and Then" which already is quite a haunting tune, I also wonder if any of the track worked on from the 1990s will be used........
Paul's one more recent interview clarified that it was the buzzing in the vocal track that caused them to have to stop work on it but, not so much as George hated the track, it was the one he least liked and was least impressed with musically. When they returned to working on the song it was the last day scheduled to work on the songs. The best they could do with removing the buzzing was far from perfect which meant they were not going to finish it that last day, and they voted on if they should add more session dates to finish it, and of course it had to be unanimous but with George tired of trying to work on the song, they quit on it. Their backing track was finished,
I'm pretty sure it's cleaning up the Hamburg Tapes and making an animation of them performing the songs. That would be amazing. Also a clean copy of Shea Stadium would be great.
I just want to hear the band reworking of this lost Threetles track. I'm glad we are finally going to hear it. Same thing with the unreleased demo of Misery from the Cavern, it was a pleasure to finally hear part of the track Pretty amazing quality for a demo. Also with the now 1 hour concert being available to the public (you need to be in England in a library to hear it). Who knew there was another secret "flower pot" recording of The Beatles in 1963?! It's great to discover these gems!
I totally agree... Beatles Anthology screams for a massive upgrade. I watched it recently, and even though I have a DVD box, I felt like I was back in the videotape era. I also rewatched Ron Howard's film last weekend, and I realised what a perfect thing it is. It's a perfect history lesson. You get a bucket of Beatlemania tossed in your face, and then spend the following 3 days feeling like your Beatles collection is all on the charts right now!
Im really looking forward to the new song. Im also really excited to see what way it will be released, i don't see Apple releasing it as only a single. Im hoping a full album, Anthology 4 or a concept 'final' Beatles album made up of finished demos from all 4 beatles.
Agree that any technology that can enhance buried or distorted vocals is terrific. Their were limitations to John’s vocal on 🎉lthe FREE AS A BIRD track from 1995. I would LOVE to hear Lennon’s vocal further restored from that humble cassette track he performed originally in The Dakota.
I remember reading that Peter Jackson interview and from what I remember/understood, the Beatles thing and the “technology doesn’t exist yet” were different projects.
Everything excites me. I've been working with 'Machine Assisted Learning' for quite some time and I absolutely love what it can do. I got rid of bad mains hum from one of their Christmas tracks (as an experiment) with 100% success. There's just so much one can do. Hate Streaming but love Beatles more also. Just hope Blu-Rays will be released re DeLuxe 5.1, Atmos etc. Good hunting. Barty
This new MAL-era of Beatles releases is exciting to think about - next to the obvious early catalogue remixes + "Now and Then", we could finally start seeing some remixed Beatles live releases (other than the Hollywood Bowl recordings, I mean). That being said though - I'm iffy as to how much they could clean up the '62 Star-Club boot (I mean the tech seems to be doing pretty well but it'd need to be magic to clean that up to a decent standard methinks).
It's nice to hear that everyone involved have agreed to finish John's demo. It would be nice if it would get a physical release. I have some doubts however about the new 'project' mr. Jackson is working on. He stated that it would be a live action movie and not a documentary. The Anthology Series is in my book a documentary. Now I know that an attempt has been made several years ago to make a completely new version of the Yellow Submarine movie. Couldn't it be possible that mr. Jackson will attempt to make a new movie like a remake of Yellow Submarine or even an entire new movie based on a number of Beatles tracks?
I love the idea of AI technology being used for things like it was with "Get Back" and "Revolver." So, I'm really looking forward to hearing what it did for "Now and Then." I wouldn't even mind seeing if it would allow them to improve on what was done in the 90's with Free As a Bird and Real Love or to see what it could do for things like the Star Club tapes. Yes, the things on UA-cam of artists covering songs they never recorded is interesting, but troubling. But using the technology to enhance what's already on a recording is great use of a new technology.
Applying the Get Back technology to the Anthology footage would be worthwhile - and agree there is room for a 2CD (or equivalent) new Anthology collection that includes a lot of demos (Bad To Me), Star Club, maybe some acetates that can be cleaned up, and some stuff missed from Get Back.
😊
I’m incredibly excited about “Now and Then” finally being released. I remember imagining what the Beatles could have done to the track when I listened to the drone filled haunting piano demo back in 2008 on UA-cam.
I really hope the single sleeve follows the design on the anthology singles, with the canvas back with information on the creation and recordings of the tracks.
If they do make it an EP, it could be like the Anthology EPs, with the John songs + 3 bonus tracks not on the albums. The tracks could be like:
Now And Then (or another John demo)
Don't Pass Me By (AKA Ringo's Tune)
I Will (60+ outtakes. There's gold in them tapes)
Something (early April sessions
Is that really important? Isn't the music more important?
It's not a good song la.
@@AnthonyMonaghanWhat?
The only problem it’s not new. There’s a UA-cam overdubbed version and it’s pretty excellent. I can’t see it being much better.
Andrew, you are quickly becoming one of my favorite humans on the planet. I look forward to your videos every week. Keep up the GREAT work.
Wow, thank you! Will do!
He is great, isn't he?
I'm really excited to hear this. I've heard the original demo and always wanted to hear the 4 of them tackle it.
As a 16 year old Beatles fan, I'm very excited about the new Beatles song, and I've been messing about with "AI" (or neural network) audio extraction technology, like was used
on the revolver box set, Get Back, etc.
By working in the Star Club Tapes you're having the finger in the pulse of a lot of Beatlemaniacs. Thank very much for that.
@@PaquiPaqui73 Except, mono recordings are still very difficult to separate out. Keep that in mind.
But bootleggers should be reissuing their stereo tapes soon. Imagine the library of bootlegs out there! YesSongs may be finally rescued.
Great video as always. Makes me wonder if artists like Robert Johnson will have their songs revisited and cleaned up with AI.
A very cogent piece, Andrew. The Beatles legacy has always been one of invention and innovation so I think the proposed Now and Then release is entirely in keeping with this.
Love this show. I would be excited to see live Beatles performances from their tours as well as a re-vamp of Live at the Hollywood Bowl.
You're welcome, Bill!
Great video as always! Keep up the good work. Can't wait on your view on let it be NAKED. All the best
Coming soon!
Fascinating, it is going to be very interesting to see what happens
This really is, by far, not only the best Beatles channel on the web but maybe the best channel of any band.
Thank you!
@@Parlogram Thank YOU...keep up the great work!!
this is great. nothing's getting altered. just cleaned better. I'm looking forward to hearing this.
Love your reel to reel tape player! What a vintage classic!
(Oh! And your red phone!)
Thanks for this posting Andrew . I'm looking forward to this
I think it's interesting. I can't wait to hear it. I would like to see a re-done anthology series.
Thnx for clearing this up for me. Someone asked me about this yesterday and I can explain much better now
Good video, by the way, Andrew - nice to see a pop-up mid-week. Catch you Sunday
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video.Great stuff
Well I’ve always thought Now and Then b/w A Carnival of Light would be similar to the Let It Be b/w You Know My Name Look Up the Number single; a beautiful song and a whacky song.
Glad I found you tonight (morning) …
making my slumber a lot more pleasant.
Cheers Brian. Hope you slept well!
thanks for this video, great as always, I am with you on this one ,really looking forward to hearing it, just hope it is not just going to be a download, we have been waiting so long for something like this, cheers, keep up the good work, Dave
Cheers Dave, will do!
Your channel is so good. Keep it coming, Andrew! I've been tweeting Beatles people for years asking for a remastered Anthology. I hope this is it!
Hi Andrew, this was a great video! There are many videos on youtube with theories from here to oblivion. Your theory made the best sense overall. Great job.
Another great episode with genuinely interesting and helpful information. Thanks!
Andrew, in my opinion you are best Beatles UA-camr. Every week new and interesting content, even your recent Kinks and top British LP episodes. Thanks, keep up the great work.
Thanks very much, Anthony. Will do!
Thank you for coming in with a rational and positive angle on this whole thing. New Beatles stuff is better than no new Beatles stuff
The term AI is so overused and incorrectly applied. The only thing going on here is just the very high end of computer processing.
I don’t know; I think Paul knew exactly what he was doing calling it “AI”. He knew it would get attention. Remember John saying how great of a PR man Macca has always been? You can be sure that hasn’t changed.
Andrew, great information as always. Thank you.
Mi amore de felice corazons from here ^
oh god you mentioned Carnival Of Light and i just grooooaned in strong desire for that track.
The possibilities sounds good! I thought there has to be something much bigger in the works. Let's hope!
Hi Andrew , I think this is great news , about the Beatles last song , and the possibility’s it could open up , including an updated version of Anthology ‘box set or even Anthology 4 , I’m well up for it , I wait with anticipation for any news on it can’t wait
Thanks again, Andrew, for the interesting insights. A lot of good stuff to look forward to in the coming months, no matter what it winds up being!
Thanks! I know many fans(including me) were waiting for your breakdown and opinion!!
I've watched a few videos on this subject and this is the best so far and it rings true for me.
I'm stoked about this, and sincerely hoping they ALSO go back and redo the vocals on the other Anthology reunion tracks.
I heard that the AI computer was so realistic that it stopped in the middle of the song to "bitch out" Ringo just like Paul used to do!!!
9:30 - Very good point - I whinged about Disney Plus right before I heard you talk about your love of the Beatles. I have that love as well, so...okay...I'll do what I did last time - hang onto the channel til the DVD arrives at my doorstep.
I also made a video about this news but I must say that this one is way better and I'm 100% going to use your videos as a inspiration for my future videos because I love how clear all your stuff is!
great video Andrew!!! happy this song will finally see the light of day.
Andrew, Thank Yo u for a SOUND take on this subject.
This is the most rational, measured, and thoroughly considered response I have seen/heard since Paul’s mention of the track. Well done!
Thank you, Matthew.
Let's see!
This leaves me hopeful we could get a remastered Beatles Anthology.
More news in due course - Paul”
So project?
Recordings (plural!)
Exciting times to come!!
Yes, I saw the Tweet. Maybe he watched the video! ;)
Gracias por el video Andrew...eres el mejor analista de la musica de los Beatles.....saludos desde PERU!!
I agree with you. As long as it doesn't try to replace a Beatle, it's all good.
Another great video! Wouldn’t it be amazing if the forthcoming release was not Now and Then but some unheard of Beatles song. Can’t wait.
Very interesting Andrew. Thanks for clearing a lot of this up.
Hi Andrew very interesting video and I hope you’re right about all of that. We wait with bated breath to see what’s happening.
I absolutely love the idea of “new” anthology!
I’ve been told that, yes, it is “Now And Then”, and Paul did say that it was the same technology as was used by Peter Jackson.
@@Vinyl_Dave Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it, Dave 😂

Thank you for the wonderful content that you always provide ❤
Glad you enjoy it, Jeff!
i found four demo's in spotify
the songs were:
A beginning (anthology 3 version
Not guilty (esher demo)
step inside love / los paranoias ( studio jam)
Goodbye (home demo)
though there were many more demo's
Nice Jersey. I aalos watched Anthology recently and same reaction- its low-fi. A rework would be great!
I really want to see what they can do. Real Love makes me cry.
Excellent channel!Brilliant presentation!
Thank you kindly!
You are a Beatles god. Thank you for your contributions to Beatles fandom.
Fab video Andrew!
Thanks, Andrew! I'm not opposed to this single or anything, as long as every album of theirs gets its own deluxe box set.
Im really looking forward to the new song. Im also really excited to see what way it will be released, i don't see Apple releasing it as only a single. Im hoping a full album, Anthology 4 or a concept 'final' Beatles album made up of finished demos from all 4 beatles.
Apart from the Star Club, I thought of Robert Johnson and Charlie Parker. I suppose it would be a commercial decision.
