You know, it always makes me laugh when I read the descriptions about the Resugent class and how far out of their way they've gone to make sure they don't get Admiral Ackbared. It must have been really embarrassing for the Imperial Navy.
Here's a thought: What if the lack of a support system built-in the ship (either ETA 2, V-wing or TIE) and the need for the pilot to wear his own life-support suit was motivated by the threat of the Buzz Droids being able to cause the cockpit to decompress and vent? If the pilot's life-support is independent from the integrity of the ship, wouldn't that allow to counter a very real problem, as the pilot wouldn't have to worry about suiting up while in a dogfight if his craft gets damaged. I'm guessing quite a few X-wing pilots met a grisly end when their lungs were sucked out of their throat by the sudden decompression of their cockpit after what could have been a grazing shot from a TIE.
At least in legends, the helmet has a backup airshield built into it that'll keep pressure in for a little while, however, unless someone was right there to pick you up, you where indeed screwed. Wing Commander seems to have had the safest approach of all. the fighters themselves have the main life-support, and in the case of an ejection, the helmet visor closes and suit life-support takes over.
@@DFX2KX By the time the "Nephilim" appeared, the Confed pilots had access to full life support pods. They had been used much earlier, but not nearly as often.
The pilot wearing a space suit would *eliminate* the need for a pressurized cockpit in the first place, meaning the ship can be more easily and cheaply engineered because it no longer needs to be a pressure vessel. Real fighter jets don't have cabin pressurization (well, maybe except the Su-34, but that thing was designed for long-range attack missions...)
The X-Wing Flight Suit had Life Support systems that created a Stasis Field around the Pilot when EV. It kept in Air and Heat while the Pilot waited for Pick Up. It wouldn't last forever, but it would last awhile.

If anyone is interested, the X-wing book series briefly explained it in book 5, Wraith Squadron. The A-wing with wood paneling was built basically in a garage(think Viet-cong style hidden workshop) on a planet that had ample supplies of wood, so it was easiest to use that.
Unfortunately, he'd fail there too... He... Just... Can't... Seem... To... Stay... STILL!!! Hard to use him as a shield when he is chronically incapable of staying in one place. @@revolrz22 Being able to pick on civilian freighters isn't exactly saying much though is it... Let's look at it, it's not particularly fast, the X-Wing rivalled it, the Interceptor, Defender, Hunter, A-wing, and countless other craft were able to soundly outrun it. It had a piddling two laser cannons, no warp drive, no deflector shields, and no life support. Also, I know I do it too, but saying something excels in its intended role is damning something by faint praise.
@@CallanElliott Literary sources place it as faster than the X-wing while also being a superior turner. Its cannons blow X-wings apart in a single direct hit. They DO have shields. All four of these points are visible on-screen in a new hope. Star Wars fans really should start watching the movies.
@@revolrz22 It is faster, my bad. Still though for all its vaunted speed, even multi-role fighters like the Hunter and Defender can outpace it. It's turning ability isn't exactly spectacular for what it was supposed to be, there is again, a lot better. How many TIEs did the Empire lose to the Rebellion? The fact that the Empire had to develop the Defender to achieve parity with the X-Wing is a bit of torpedo to the notion that the TIE is real competition to the X-Wing.
@@CallanElliott the Hunter and Defender are newer generations of spacecraft, so that argument holds no water. The maneuverability of The Craft is more than adequate. We can see in every visual dog fight between Tie fighters and rebel Fighters, that the rebel Fighters are completely unable to ditch the imperial fighters. Furthermore, when Luke exclaims that they're going in Full Throttle Down the Death Star trench, Tie fighters handily keep pace. Then, of course, we see that TIE fighter cannons will destroy any shielded fighter with a direct hit. The fact that Tie fighters always lose in the expanded universe despite their outstanding attributes making them Superior dogfighters is a consequence of the Star Wars franchise being written by people who, frankly, don't understand anything about dog fighting.
It has mediocre shielding, subpar weapons, and its other systems are... good quality but minimal. However it has where it counts: speed and maneuverability. Speed to intercept the enemy and maneuverability to be the one shooting, not the one being shot at. However, A-wing is the only true space superiority fighter the rebels have, X-wing is too generalised model to be true space superiority fighter. It might have been when it was new, but should be delegated to strike missions instead where its greater firepower and missile load can do more good and its lack of speed is not a big liability.
@@sithacolol5337 Which are still quite meh. Good against shuttles, but proton torpedoes would be usually better. Man... ya gotta LOVE how, in a LOT of ways, Star Wars actually does a great job at accurately portraying the politics and bureaucracy that goes into how big governments go about acquiring and funding defense contracts (or, well,... in the case of the Empire, OFFENSE contracts.) As a Marine veteran, I can tell you that the reason the Empire greenlit the offense contract for the Tie-fighters over the A-Wings sounds EXACTLY why just our RIFLES in the real-life American military are mostly manufactured by Colt - instead of, say, Heckler & Koch, Sig Sauer, IWI, Fabrique Nationale, or Daniel Defense Co. (and that’s just to name a few companies who typically manufacture firearms that are generally of at least substantially better quality, toughness, longevity, accuracy, and ruggedness than those generally manufactured by Colt.) Colt makes M4 carbines and M-16 rifles for the American military in bulk - and they’re what we call, “Not the best you could ask for, but comfortably good enough. ‘This is my Rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine... .’” Yada-yada-yada. The same LARGE-SCALE goal for cost effectiveness applies to commissioning new airframes for our air superiority programs. 🤣 It’s all CONNECTED, man! It’s just insanely cool to me how many story elements of Star Wars can almost VERBATIM sound like how deals unfold in real life. 🤯
More and more, it seems like the Rebellion's fighter corps has similarities to WW2 Germany's tanks. +High performance? Check. +Revolutionary design? Check. +Heavily armed and defended? Check. -Maintenance nightmare? Check. -Slow production? Check. -Preposterously expensive? Check. It's telling that for all their advantages of shields, armor, hyperspace, and heavier weapons, Rebellion fighters generally only hold their own against basic-model TIE fighters. That suggests those advantages don't actually help all that much. If the choice between A-Wings and TIE fighters is a moderate improvement in performance at triple the price, the Empire probably made the right choice in sticking with the Sienar design. That said, I like the A-wing. It is an ambush predator, leaping out of hyperspace at high speeds to cause instant mayhem, and relying on its blistering speed to get it out of trouble as fast as it got in. That fits the Alliance's doctrine of surprise attacks from hidden bases perfectly. As fast as it is, the TIE is an entirely different animal - and not a bad design either. A Star Destroyer's fighter complement of 72 TIEs (including bomber and recon squadrons) seems more suited to being a defensive and support system, providing a fighter screen for the ISD itself and air support for ground operations. If you wanted a fighter to make Rebel bomber pilots rethink their life choices, a squadron of TIEs goes a long way toward that goal. If I had to eject, I'd also have a bit more confidence in the fully-sealed TIE pilots' flight suit than the open-faced helmets used on Rebel strike craft. If those break up, you're pretty much hosed: every Rebel pilot we see die has the cockpit explode around him, so there's no chance to get a mask sealed. TIE pilots at least have a split second to pull the "loud handle" and take their chances, but Rebel pilots pretty much win or die.
High performances ? The German tanks had some of the worst performances of the war. Only the Tiger I was decent. The rest were just complete garbage compared to French, CZ or Russian tanks. What revolutionary design ? They only made boxes until the Panther and Tiger II. And even then it was a response to the T-34 slopped armor. Heavily armed and defended ? Look at how shitty they were against French, Russian and US tanks. They were always behind in term of protection and firepower (talking about main tanks like PzIV. Not Heavies like the Tiger.) German tanks were some of the worst tanks of the whole war. Only reason they would be somewhat useful is when they are fighting weaker enemies or doing a surprise attack
A closer analogy would be US strikecraft (rebellion) VS Imperial Japanese strikecraft (empire). Indeed, that is what they were based on in real life. Statistics wise, the average X-Wing could handle 2.5 standard Ties, 1.5 Tie Interceptors, or 3 Tie bombers or Tie scouts before falling. That doesn't count ace pilots or Jedi pilots, just average pilots.
Interesting. Truth is, while the third reich was one of the most evil nations to exist, their tactics and weapon designs are actually more reminiscent of a classic "good guy" design. Badass, effective, and even good looking, but is held back by their lack of numbers. They use sheer intelligence and cunning to win their battles, not by brute force.
@@thekenjistream8683 With the A-Wing costing nearly three times as much as a standard TIE fighter, with only moderate improvements in performance and being a maintenance nightmare, I think the analogy stands. For that matter, I think we agree on the illusion of one side's vehicles appearing heavily armed and defended: a lot is made of the heavier defenses and weapons of Rebel fighters like the X-Wing, but a fat lot of good it seems to do them. Getting a TIE fighter on their tail is still pretty much a death sentence for a Rebel pilot unless he gets a wingman to clear his six - and you can bet the TIEs will have the numbers advantage. As for Russian tanks... Well, maintenance wasn't as much of a problem for them, as they weren't really expected to survive long enough for their atrocious engine and transmission problems to be an issue. They didn't exactly fare well beyond the fact that they were cheap as chips to make, at least as far as tanks go. Some accounts of the battle of Kursk reported that the Soviets resorted to ramming the German tanks, in the hopes of getting the Germans hung up on the Russian tanks' hulls. If their best tactic was to be mobile tank traps, that doesn't exactly speak highly of Russian armor.
@@ezachleewright2309 for the military-minded, maybe. Those of us who applaud ingenuity, on the other hand... However, I agree with the "less interesting," just for a different reason. IDK how interesting a video about a ship made out of 50% duct tape can be :P
Even without the fantasy logistics I always figured the A Wing was one of the more feasible starfighters in Star Wars, because its design is so no-nonsense and compact.
I like the Y-Wing, true, but the A-Wing can kick ass. I flew it in my multiple games, and it's very fun to fly, and can be thrown all over the sky with abandon. Its punch isn't exactly weak either. The missiles are stored in revolver-style drums behind the launch tubes, facilitating a fast rearm on the ground.

I remember playing the old X-wing vs TiE Fighter games. The A-wing was my favorite. I remember a mission where you had to scope out the entire Imperial fleet as it passed through a system. The briefing called for an X-wing, but it was too slow. So I took an A-wing. After a few practice missions (very successful) I decided to do AGRESSIVE recon. Me and my little A-wing took down over a dozen capital ships, including a Victory Star Destroyer, plus a dozen TIE Avengers to boot.
I hate that in the new "Canon" the a wing, b Wing, tie interceptor and tie defender all exist before the galactic civil war just because Rebels need to cram as much dumb fan service in to itself as possible to distract from how awful it was also what the fuck was up with that ridiculous laser thing on the b Wing it doesn't make any sense the b Wing never has that in any sauces placed after that so they knew we were never going to see it again what was the point

True, but I think that this article primarily deals with the Original Trilogy era, and none of the three ties you mentioned were produced during this time
Paul Magee, era pertains to time, not reality/alternate universes (i.e. Canon vs Legends). These three craft are within the era in the Legend’s flight sim, the sequel to “Star Wars: X-Wing”: “Star Wars: TIE Fighter”, takes place immediately after the Battle of Hoth & ends shortly before hearing word about the results of the Battle of Endor. #3 is completely legends, #2 is technically an offshoot of Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced, #1 is canon thanks to Star Wars: Rebels & such.
@@nickvinsable3798 Fair enough. I suppose I was just rationalizing through the fact that we never see the Defender, advanced, or Gunboat on screen in the Original Trilogy
Ah, so what you meant to type, Paul Magee, was “. . . this Video primarily deals with the Original Trilogy, and none of the three Starfighters you mentioned were produced in those films” . . . yokay. FYI, the Missleboat was actually designed & produced by Cygnus Spaceworks, the designing manufacturers of the Imperial Gunboat as well as those Old Republic & Imperial Shuttles.
well yeah, sweetblue44. I specifically typed “canon/legends” because two of the three ships are technically canon (TIE Avenger’s predecessor would be Darth Vader’s TIE).
@@solarsatan9000 If I remember though. It was the plane that you could swoop down in, down the pilot and manage to get away due to superior speed. So if that's the case, then yeah. The A-Wing is the P-51 of Star Wars.
We need to see all these futures being used in the films, I know Episode 2 is no really popular, but seeing jango Fett piloting the Slave 1 and unleashing its arsenal was genius!
I have at least two flaws with this vessel: 1. Guns are still wing-mounted. Though closer together than the X-wings, they still need to have a focal point, decreasing their firing range and usefulness. 2. Where is it getting all this power from? A ship with that many sensors, guns, and extra features is going to need a LOT of power. And those engines surely require it too. Its flight capabilities cannot possibly be long, since it would drain its fuel and batteries far too fast, much like the ME-163 in WWII.
the guns are mounted on a gimbal, they can be tilted slightly inwards and outwards as well as being able to swivel 180 degress to fire behind the ship - and its an interceptor its literally desgined to have higher performance at the cost of range
I’m not sure how true that is, but apparently it’s also possible to carry several A-wings stashed inside a blockade runner corvette as well, giving you more flexibility beyond the ship’s hyperdrive if you need to make longer distance hyperspace jumps
Top speed in space really makes no sense other than c. :') There's nothing causing significant drag in space. I'll just change speed into maximum acceleration in my mind.
Where you reference the ARC-170, "aggressive reconnaissance" could refer to two separate roles, attack and recon, like how the RAF classifies some of its aircraft, such as the Tornado GR.Mk4. It was tasked with ground attack (G) and recon (R) but it would not likely do them both on the same sortie.
Always Aw3s0m3 Or if Plo Koon had survived Order 66 and flown an A-Wing... massive yikes for the Empire. Not many people realize how good of a pilot Master Plo was. Some say he was almost as good as Anakin.
No offense to tech, but the sw UA-cam channels keep sayings TIEs are easy to jump and their sensor capabilities are constantly ignored. I don't think any TIE will get a good video.
@@lancer737 the TIE Defender was one of if not THE best starfighter of all time. It even had twin Ion canons to fight larger capital ships. It was also the fastest TIE. Overall a very well rounded ship with deflector shields and a Hyperdrive.
@@linuxoperatingsystem6402 And maybe those things would matter if the Defender could even find the phantom. The most important part isn't speed or firepower. It's not being hit. No TIE does not being hit better than the Phantom. :)
I always loved the A-Wing, having had a very bad traffic accident, 8 ton truck vs. bicyclist, I spent a lot of time in hospital, because well squish. Since at the time and in the area it was front page news I got visitors one of which was representatives from some of the Star Wars advertising folks and one of the many gifts they gave me was an A-Wing model. The biggest redesign features between Return of the Jedi A-Wing and the Last Jedi, in my opinion, is by slimming down the thickness of the A-Wing allows 2 boxes of A-wings with Last Jedi compared to 1 Box size of the Last Jedi. Movie wise you could hold twice the amount of modern A-Wings when in a stacked launch platform. Oh and the new A-Wing now being able to be used very often since every time it lands it would crush it's tail fins as it only has front landing gear.
This is my personal favorite fighter in Star Wars. One feature I like is that 2 of these can be attached to a CR90 corvette for quick fighter assistance.
According to Legends, the Imperial Navy doctrine focused more on Capital Ships, and starfighters were relegated to a short-range support role. TIE starfighters fit the doctrine - no hyperdrive and long-term life support meant they couldnt abandon their assigned ship, and cheapness & lack of shields promoted swarm tactics against whatever enemies that the Capital Ship weapons couldn’t deal with. For Imperial pilots, it reinforced the idea that everyone was a cog in the Imperial war machine.
I am gonna have to disagree. The A-Wing Interceptor is the best Rebel Interceptor. But it was out performed in every way by TIE Interceptors. The Interceptor is constantly shown murdering A-Wings in mass. Its cannons are powerful enough to kill any Rebel fighter with a single beam as seen in ROTJ, Blade Squadron, and all the Rebels episodes with TIE Defenders as they have the same cannons. The Interceptor and Defender had the most powerful targeting computers in the war, and its likely what gave the TIE Interceptor the edge to get past the A-Wing Interceptors jammers. Interceptors and Fighters are very modular, and because the Interceptors have the same reactors TIE Avengers have, they easily could mount shields, hyperdrives, projectile launchers, beam weaponry like tractor beams, tactical beam jammers, all at once with no issue. The TIE Interceptor Squadron Avenger, and the Royal Guard Interceptors did this. Also despite what channels say about any TIE, all Rebellion era fighters have 360 3d ftl passive and active sensors of various kinds. The only way they wont see an attacker coming is if they are hard jammed, or preoccupied.
I think that was due to the rebels having inferior pilots. Say what you want about the tie fighter but the imperial pilots were the best in the galaxy. And although the interceptor could turn better and had more lasers an a wing had speed shields and concussion missiles. A defender on the other hand would be a bigger problem.
Yeah it depends on the pilot skills. Both fighters were doomed if the other one locked its weapons on it. The shield gives the A-Wing an advantage in theory, but practically it makes no difference if the rapid fireing TIE needs a few more shots. And the missiles can be countered or dodged, it's hard to lock on a equally fast and more maneuverable target anyway. The TIE can be taken out by a few shots, it needs its speed and maneuverability to survive as well as to kill. The A-Wing is better on the paper, but in a real fight it is way closer (not considering the TIEs cost advantage, although the A-Wing has more possible uses).
@@TheMysti97 Its both the craft and skill. Using a real life example. Veteran F-15 pilots in Europe have lost in stimulated engagements with Green Pilots using Typhoons. In this case, the flight characteristics is so much better that the Vet Airforce pilots couldn't beat new pilots.
True that imperial pilots were the best trained, but the a wing can go anywhere in the galaxy and has shields. You are right that the TIE intercepter was highy changable but movies A wing any otherTIE
how about one day after you finished or are a long way into the 10 flaws series do a " 10 ways to fix the xxX" where you grab the most flawed vehicles and re-design them to improve their design
Kinda like my old Datsun 280zx twin turbo, a giant engine and two seats.... same reason why I love the A Wing... remember The gauntlet mission on the old X-Wing computer game, the A wing ruled it with its speed and concussion missiles, like no other.
The tactics that the A wing specialized in were called high-side gun pass or Boom and Zoom. It was set up during WWII and the specialty of fighters like the Mustang or Focke-Wulf. Before that it was more about turn fighters, which was more a specialty of the Zero.
StarViper-class Attack Platform is by far my favorite fighter. It has the length of a A-Wing but the height of a At-At, unique pair of micro thrusts on each wing tip. I think it could hold it's own if not best the A-Wing, personally speaking.
The inertial compensateor is basically like a physics teacher strapped to a ship ignoring air resistance and making how to figure out how it flies confuseing
ETA Actis-2 is the best interceptor. Speed, agility, and a well engineered small frame with a killer arsenal, the granted it was Hyperdrive ring assisted. It was a very simple ship that could be modified like the Delta Starfighter. Counter measures, basic shielding, a luxurious spacious cockpit for targeting computers, storage behind the pilots seat, and a massive canopy view. Perfect for hanging scented small trees
It is more believable than the A-wing. It seems improbable that the a ship that small (the A-Wing) could pack in all those systems. It defies credibility. The ETA Actis-2, on the other had, is about the same size and has many of the same good features, but it more realistically makes hyperspace engines a separate unit that it can utilize. Clone Wars ships are generally better thought out than original trilogy (as much as I like them)>
The “slashing run” tactic that you keep talking about sounds like the “boom and zoom” tactic used by some WWII pilots and I think early jets used that tactic too. Basically you’d climb to a higher altitude than your enemy then trade that altitude for energy (or speed) to hit your target quickly then get the hell out of dodge.
On battlefront 2, I use the a wing in the same manner on starship assault. It really does the job. I'll look for targets who are attacking my team mates or people who are alone
I'd say its suited for intercepting light transports or bombers then immediately retreat, not so much for dogfights like the x wing considering that it tends to get hit by tie fighters

You know, it always makes me laugh when I read the descriptions about the Resugent class and how far out of their way they've gone to make sure they don't get Admiral Ackbared. It must have been really embarrassing for the Imperial Navy.
They lost a 19 kilometer long ship to one guy in a damaged interceptor. Yay, I would call that a big embarrassment.
Piet, you fool...
@@stardustcomet4714 ah my nerdy brethren. Going deep on that lore
Too soon
After the Clone Wars, I imagine that threat was very rare
The X-Wing Flight Suit had Life Support systems that created a Stasis Field around the Pilot when EV. It kept in Air and Heat while the Pilot waited for Pick Up. It wouldn't last forever, but it would last awhile.
The A-wing is the fastest fighter we have, capable of matching a TIE Interceptor in speed.
But force have mercy if a missile turret gets you in its sights. I can't count the number of A Wings I lost to those SOBs
It depends if they are are an Elite Squadron or not. Avenger Squadron TIE Interceptors are faster. The Royal Guard Interceptors might be also.
Not if the a wing has wood panel that makes then go faster ;)
Just paint it red, red is faster
If it was an option, I always just shot missiles at As and saved my lasers on less nimble ships. Alas, with TIE/LN or TIE/IN, that wasn't an option in the vast majority of cases and had to hunt them down... Annoying, the slippy blighters! -_-

If anyone is interested, the X-wing book series briefly explained it in book 5, Wraith Squadron. The A-wing with wood paneling was built basically in a garage(think Viet-cong style hidden workshop) on a planet that had ample supplies of wood, so it was easiest to use that.

@@GenerationTech I do love the Ywing as well, I personally would prefer being the pilot of A heavy fighter like the ARC-170 or anything that has rear facing weapons, its something that's overlooked in the star wars universe and I can see it being incredibly useful. My favorite feature of the A-wing? The 1979 Ford dashboard style of HUD! XD
It didn't look like an eyeball and actually excelled in its intended role.
^The real reason the A-wing wasn't used by the Empire.
The TIE fighter did have the attributes to make it excel in its intended role, though.
"The A-Wing is the best space superiority fighter."
>Rebels
"The A-Wing is uh... It's er... It's o k."
@@ribbitgoesthedoglastnamehe4681 it's concussion missiles make it deadly for weak spots.
@@sithacolol5337 Which are still quite meh.
Good against shuttles, but proton torpedoes would be usually better. If you have to go for weak spots, you already need a bigger gun, thats what the Y wing is for.
Concussion missiles serve better the slower craft that cant dogfight.
I wouldnt still put any torpedoes in the A wing either, I would swap the launchers for extra cannons or an astromech and ftl capability. Or, best case scenario, 1 nose mounted light turbolaser with several firing chambers, capable of infrequent but rapid bursts. Would take out heavier fighters in one pass without adding too much weight or adding huge energy drain while still adding missile-comparable firepower, though with shorter range.
@@ribbitgoesthedoglastnamehe4681 you are right, but I was saying for weak spots such as shield generators, and bombers. They are still fast. And for the astromech compatibility problem, U just found this out, but the rz 2 a wing apparently has astromech compatibility

Thats earlier version of X wing, except 30 years older, weaker, slower, half the firepower and quarter of the survivability. Its Clone Wars tech.

Man... ya gotta LOVE how, in a LOT of ways, Star Wars actually does a great job at accurately portraying the politics and bureaucracy that goes into how big governments go about acquiring and funding defense contracts (or, well,... in the case of the Empire, OFFENSE contracts.)
As a Marine veteran, I can tell you that the reason the Empire greenlit the offense contract for the Tie-fighters over the A-Wings sounds EXACTLY why just our RIFLES in the real-life American military are mostly manufactured by Colt - instead of, say, Heckler & Koch, Sig Sauer, IWI, Fabrique Nationale, or Daniel Defense Co.
The A-Wing is one of my favorite starfighters to pilot in the classic Star Wars combat sims.
*Plays Germany's WW2 Anthem*
High performances ? The German tanks had some of the worst performances of the war. Only the Tiger I was decent. The rest were just complete garbage compared to French, CZ or Russian tanks.
What revolutionary design ?
They only made boxes until the Panther and Tiger II. And even then it was a response to the T-34 slopped armor.
Heavily armed and defended ?
Look at how shitty they were against French, Russian and US tanks. They were always behind in term of protection and firepower (talking about main tanks like PzIV. Not Heavies like the Tiger.)
German tanks were some of the worst tanks of the whole war.

Even without the fantasy logistics I always figured the A Wing was one of the more feasible starfighters in Star Wars, because its design is so no-nonsense and compact.
That's why it was one of the most commonly used starfighter of the ARR before the X-Wing became popular (according to Rebels, at least).
I like the Y-Wing, true, but the A-Wing can kick ass. I flew it in my multiple games, and it's very fun to fly, and can be thrown all over the sky with abandon. Its punch isn't exactly weak either.

#2: TIE Avenger: 133
#1: TIE Defender: 144

I have at least two flaws with this vessel:
Jake Heinrichs Another flaw is the lack of astromech compatibility.
the guns are mounted on a gimbal, they can be tilted slightly inwards and outwards as well as being able to swivel 180 degress to fire behind the ship - and its an interceptor its literally desgined to have higher performance at the cost of range
I’m not sure how true that is, but apparently it’s also possible to carry several A-wings stashed inside a blockade runner corvette as well, giving you more flexibility beyond the ship’s hyperdrive if you need to make longer distance hyperspace jumps
And the Tri Fighter is still the best.
TAPE Gaming's KSP Fighter Jet Showdown series once featured an A-Wing. It was surprisingly very effective, no repulsorlifts necessary.

Carboplast = Carbon Fiber
Hehe yea maybe
According to Legends, the Imperial Navy doctrine focused more on Capital Ships, and starfighters were relegated to a short-range support role. TIE starfighters fit the doctrine - no hyperdrive and long-term life support meant they couldnt abandon their assigned ship, and cheapness & lack of shields promoted swarm tactics against whatever enemies that the Capital Ship weapons couldn’t deal with. For Imperial pilots, it reinforced the idea that everyone was a cog in the Imperial war machine.
Overengineered and hard to maintain. Sounds VERY german to me
Lol yup
"Ain't no wing like a Sch-wing baby!" - Garth Vader of Milaywarkay

Fast, compact, weapon ready and good looking. Verdict : A+
Also like the ARC 170, E wing and the X wing.
StarViper-class Attack Platform is by far my favorite fighter. It has the length of a A-Wing but the height of a At-At, unique pair of micro thrusts on each wing tip. I think it could hold it's own if not best the A-Wing, personally speaking.
Love it! Keep up the good work GT!
The inertial compensateor is basically like a physics teacher strapped to a ship ignoring air resistance and making how to figure out how it flies confuseing
Reminds me of the old F-104 Starfighter, aka the "Missile With a Man in it"
That sure was one of the more flattering names for this flying coffin.
Star Wars Squadrons VR. My absolute _favourite_ ship is the A Wing, it’s like an F1 car with guns!
A bunch of these, armed with defoliators and those ion cannons used on the Lassats VS Yuuzan Vong bioships.
My favorite ship in Star Wars. Ever since playing Rouge Squadron II.
I would Love to see a Video on. 10 Pros and 10 Cons for Standard Mobile Suits from the Gundam Series. :)
On battlefront 2, I use the a wing in the same manner on starship assault. It really does the job. I'll look for targets who are attacking my team mates or people who are alone
Nice video!! have you guys thought about the B-WING?! that is one amazing starfighter!
Bridge worker: Captain a wing
Captain: im looking for A-Wing not a wing
I'd say its suited for intercepting light transports or bombers then immediately retreat, not so much for dogfights like the x wing considering that it tends to get hit by tie fighters
