@@christoph560 I don’t know about you but ACNH being boring might be because of us. In fact, since it came out during lockdown, most of us had rushed the game because we had nothing to do at that time and the game began being empty very quickly. Though we cannot deny that it brings alot to the series that cannot make me go back to ACNL (i also love that game)

when animal crossing new horizons released I had finally left my incredibly toxic friend group, who had treated me like I didn't even exist for months. playing animal crossing, all the characters were so nice to me! it finally felt like I had friends again, even though they were just repeating the same 5 lines of dialogue. it also gave me a sense of routine that I had lost due to covid. the small and easy tasks gave me a sense of accomplishment when I couldn't do much in real life. all those things were the reasons I've put hundereds of hours into the game!

Commenting before watching the whole video: its relaxing and wholesome atmosphere, most of all. At least for me. It's also quite accessible compared to action heavy games, or even farming sims for instance. Like, a family friend is playing with her grandson, and they still have the tent despite playing for ages - but there's no rush! They're having tons of fun as is. Just take your time, enjoy yourself. Tom Nook might have a bad image, but the loan for the house upgrades is interest free ffs! There is no winning in this game, it's simply about enjoying a slow-paced (island) lifestyle 😌

Got the game for my daughter in early Jan for her birthday. She's autistic and has struggled w/ other console games (she loves games on her tablets). We play this for 2 hours every day, me on the big screen and her on her Lite. It's the first game that has really hooked her and the open ended nature of the game makes it low pressure while the gameplay mechanics are easy for her to grasp.

I believe up to 6 fossils can be on your island at a time but only 4 can spawn per day. So if you missed 2 the day before, the 2 leftover will remain and 4 new will spawn.

To me, Animal Crossing has such a fond place in my heart due to my childhood. My childhood was not the best, but I know I would play New Leaf and really forget about everything bad that was happening. That's why I have such an attachment to it. Horizons did not capture my heart truly until 2.0 update came out and it was a good start to see where this new "generation" will go.
Yeah Nintendo took a long time to listen to us and there are still more things they could implement but the routines we create, the creativity that flourishes and all that, makes the world your "oyster" as Zion said!

My grandfather passed away a month after the release of this game so I specifically bought this game to help me cope with losing him. I didn't even own a Switch until I bought Animal Crossing and I honestly have the best memories with it! It actually got me back into gaming after years of not being able to and I'm overjoyed to be able to play games like BOTW and my favorite platformers again. In my opinion, it’s for people who are heavily invested in this game. I mean, people who will take out time daily for this game. Me for instance is not that kind of person and I think that was the thing that affected my experience a lot. I purchased the game thinking that I’ll have fun but at one point, it just felt like a task to me. Task as in, that every time I’ll boot up the game, I know I have to perform a certain task to proceed further. Also, making a basic ass bridge should not take that much bells.

Animal Crossing is a cozy piece of escapism. In the older games especially, it really captured a sense of community where the player made their way and actually felt like they belonged to the town and the villagers within it. This happens in New Horizons too, but not as well as the first game, since the villagers are not as lively and dynamic in their personalities and dialogue as in the older games

A UA-cam creator I watch has recently restarted, and is playing with no time travel or visiting treasure islands. They’re enjoying the new pace and not rushing through. This game is designed to be played as a marathon, not a sprint. It’s designed to be played for an hour or two a day. Due to pandemic restrictions, people were off work, and played the game to fill the time. I also feel this game has attracted the designers who want to show off their islands on social media. I think it has left a lot of people feeling burnt out, and others feeling slightly intimidated and doubting their own creative ability. I’ve learned not to compare my island to anyone else’s, and play at my own pace. I’m far from done with this game.

Finally a positive review on NH, I'm actually SICK of people crying saying "WAAAAA IT'S NOT AS GOOD AS NL WAAAAAH", this game has its flaws, just like EVERY game in history, yeah, villagers aren't as good as in the older games but... I don't really care about it 🤷, I wouldn't mind if Kyle gave me the same dialogue as a few minutes ago because I LOVE him (I just don't understand why people complain about villagers being nice?? Like, why? I'll just never understand people's obsession with being harassed by fictional characters lmfao). The soundtrack... Yeah, it's not as good as the older games, but I think it fits the island's aesthetic, which is pretty good, I think people are just too entitled and picky nowadays, but that's my opinion lol.

In some ways, I think it has the same core promise of a cookie clicker kind of idle game (but with tons more actual game built around it lol). It’s the promise that there is something that you want, just out of reach, and you work to get it and it feels rewarding to finally get it! And inevitably, while you work to achieve that goal, new ones evolve and the cycle continues. The key difference between this and an idle game is that it’s beautiful and entertaining in some of the minute to minute, and relaxing… but the tedium is what holds the whole game together honestly… some quality of life upgrades may legitimately improve the game, but a lot of them would allow you to achieve goals before you get a chance to create new ones, invariably short-changing you of the longer term experience! I know I fell off when I had achieved all of my most important goals and the only ones left felt less significant than whatever newer game dethroned it haha
All that said though… I speak as someone from the half of the audience that looks at this game as a game to play and then put aside, I’m sure some of what I said is only partly true for those who log in every single day for years for the island life community, for vibes, etc…
Great game! Good convo so far! (Only 5 minutes in, then I paused to comment lol)

There are so many life sims and building games that are far more complex and offer more freedom than Animal Crossing, and yet, none of them could match the fun and relaxation I have when playing Animal Crossing… I’d say it could be the music or the characters but it’s definitely more than that.
There’s something about the world of Animal Crossing that really draw you in and lets you be fully immersed. Even in the very first game on the GameCube, limited as it is, I could still feel like I was living a second life within that tiny village, just exploring and seeing little changes that each day brought.
It’s really an “experience” like no other that is kinda hard to describe. The series also have a very easy entry level that anyone, young and old could get into, charming graphics appealing to most (which games like Minecraft could still put off some people), memorable characters and simple but addicting gameplay loop that just makes it “fun” overall.😊

I can't stand the "tom nook is the villain!" when aside from the fact that, yes, you end up in a loan from him. However, AND A BIG HOWEVER.
0% interest loan. No down payment. No repayment plan. Tom Nook is basically the George Bailey of animal crossing. You need a home, which means you need money, dont have it? Heres a loan. Pay it whenever.
Compared the current schemes of the world where landlords and banks want to nickle and dime you left and right, con and scam you. Nook prepares you for the world in an easy, slow paced, casual way.
And also if you dig into the lore he gives loads away to charity, help the community, keeps ecommerce going, bring in new folks any time someone leaves allowing the livelihood of the city to continue. But people don't want to think about that.

I have 3 binders filled with notes to myself , but I also have DA’s and Creator’s ID’s of other ACNH Players but that’s in one of my 3 binders.
But I have also put up reminders for myself , in the Calendar App in my iPad.
So I will know what I’m doing for that day , but it is setup on a schedule so I will do them like when I’m in my ACNH Life.
But also I’m hard at work in my island right now.
But also I would like some or a lot of in game friends.

They will become annoyed or angry with you. You can even awake Gulliver or Pirate Gulliver with the net. 4.) You can place pit fall seed traps for your villagers.

  • @charlesedwinbooks
    @charlesedwinbooks 2 роки тому +2

I've played animal crossing from the beginning entry to today. I've shoveled thousands upon thousands of hours into these entries. One of the things that has made the game stay fun and relevant to me was not time traveling, coming back daily, and working on the "daily" things to do. Seeing who is coming, gathering stuff, grinding money, raising friendship, working towards shop upgrades and unlocks etc.
And while I did have a lot of with new horizons initially, it ended up being the most disappointing title in the series for me. Locking everything behind a "release schedule" to me came off as "we are releasing this game in an unfinished state but there is enough to keep people distracted while we periodically roll out the content." To me, it felt like the development took advantage of the core fanbase who were used to waiting for things as non time travelers, cut content from the base game in order to release it in a seasonal window. As someone who played NH from launch to today, it was very frustrating to play an incomplete version of animal crossing. Nintendo pull all their eggs in the terra forming basket, and while it was super cool, the core and traditional aspects of the game shouldn't have been changed or cut.
Redd, Katrina, Kapp'n, and so many traditional and needed characters were missing out of the box. No "main street", only 2 shop upgrades with 1 additional business, no ordinances, no gyroids, no art, no coffee shop, and no deep sea diving. New Horizons, for me, was quickly shadowed by New Leaf which had shops popping up left and right. A shop that could be upgraded 4ish times. Being able to build a coffee shop in town and etc. New Horizons had expectations to bring all the good from New Leaf and improve upon and instead focused on terra forming, crafting, and while fun, left our core aspects the series was known for.
Now as of 3/15/22 the final form of the game is alive. With the 2.0 update and Paradise Planner all together the game does feel more rounded off and complete. However, there are series norms that are missing that still frustrate me. I think I wouldn't mind so much if all of this had been in the box original (which likely would've been the case had Mr Iwata, may he rest in peace, was still around today.) But the current state of nintendo is to take a page from EAs and everyone's play book and release "fin---d" games with plans to fill in the remaining gaps of content in free updates down the line, or worse, cut content for the sack of paid dlc.
I think what makes it even worse is that the core, long time, fan base knows and speak out against this. But New Horizons benefited from covid so well, that it brought in SO MANY new fans who weren't even aware of these issues, and didn't care. So what should have been strong feedback for nintendo to listen to and learn from going forward ends up getting washed away because of the praises and joys from folks who didn't, and still don't, know any better.
I do like new horizons. It is a good game and it is fun. But it was released rather disrespectfully to its dedicated fans who have stood by it all these years. IMO anyway.

This is an excellent review. I'm getting really fed up of people saying Animal Crossing is for children. It's the kind of game that you can enjoy even going into your late teens and 20s as well. I played New Leaf about 10 years ago when it came out and I struggled to find the enjoyment in it. I dropped it with two weeks, but I've started playing it again now and I can't seem to put it down. I can barely remember it from when I first played it, mainly because of how long ago it was. But I've bought New Horizons for myself for my 23rd birthday, and I'm really looking forward to digging into it. Initially I was very hesitant to buy it because I didn't like the fact that all the villiagers were animals, but I'd buy it in a heartbeat now that I've learned more about it and played New Leaf. It's not for everyone, I gather. But it's definitely for me.

When it came out during the world-wide lockdown, it probably saved my mental health. Discovering new things day by day was a refreshing contrast to the dreaded dreary lockdown that kept on going for at least two years. ACNH is the first AC I've ever played. I do think it's alot of fun but I do have alot of complaints. As they said the whole laying paths piece by piece, the long crafting animations, the long anything animations, the lack if a music volume slider, not having the ability to skip dialog I've read a billion times, the online being so so very slow, ect ect. Personally I find it very frustrating and not satisfying at all, the act of finishing a project is but dealing with janky mechanics for hours and hours to accomplish that sucks. On that note though I do have like 300+ hours in the game! I'm trying to build a goth horror island it's it's starting to look really good! I love villagers interaction. I guess my point is I love the game but hate how slow some of the mechanics are. If anyone has advice to avoid burnout let me know! I'm 28 so I definitely time travel cause let's be honest I can't play every day.
