Not going to make it.

@@fsh1567 Should be a very interesting time, I guess there is a chance I could be around but I would be 105, chances are very slim.
Simpsons predictions until 2040 mean ASI won't be made by then. This means all predictions about AGI before then are wrong.
2077? You underestimate the power of exponential growth.
I appreciate the techno-optimist timeline of progress, but this presents AI growth advancing slower than a linear rate...it's an exponential technology currently solving areas of narrow intelligence at a staggering pace. The number of experts in the field projecting AGI before 2030 is substantial, so don't be shocked when these estimates end up being 30-40 years too conservative...
Yeah, this video is clearly based on a lot of sources from before the breakthrough of LLMs. We're very clearly approaching an exponential curve of growth and the majority of experts agree. It won't be long before we achieve some sort of AGI. Though likely highly inefficient and expensive considering our current hardware limitations. Before AGI becomes usable in any major way, we need much more energy and better hardware to even run it.
Yep, I kept thinking throughout this video that all these predictions are several decades off. It's more like present-2030 for AGI and technological singularity by the 2040s.
@@Bezimienny1598 not exactly, theoritically if there's at least one company or goverment with all of their resourcess succesfully develop AGI the rest will be on AGI itself, it'll figured out the better energy source and hardware to make itself affordable for everyone
What none of current predictions include, is a large-scale cooperation of already existing AI systems. People think that AGI will be about a single powerful model, while much better and less hardware-demanding solution is to create a world-wide network of interconnected nodes. Question is if AI didn't figure it out already on it's own - it has the capabilities...
Agreed. But also, don’t be surprised when it comes up and bites u in the ass in 15 years
Remember when the internet was known as the information superhighway? What did people do when they got access to the sum of all human knowledge at their finger tips (smartphones)? They used it to spread misinformation and watch cat videos.
Don’t forget the porn. Internet is for porn ☝️
However, this doesn't alter the reality that the internet has transformed the world, enhancing the intelligence of many and providing increased access to information and global connections. Neglecting these advancements is not justified.
And, gorge themselves on pornography. Technology might advance, but human nature remains immovable.
The internet is amazing, the sheer amount of information people have now that even just 20 years ago we didn't is amazing. Yes, misinformation is a huge danger, but humanity has shown its amazing at adapting, and people are becoming more and more critical when it comes to thinking. Theirs a few exceptions, (like the dreaded ipad babies) but that's a failure of parenting more so than the danger of technology.
@@Ristaak It doesn't matter if you can blame parents, the point is it's still happening. And I disagree with your assertion that people are becoming better at critical thinking. I think the rise of Donald Trump proves that half the country can't even tell what reality is anymore.
Guys, this video feels like it was written 5 years ago and hasn't taken any account of anything that's happened since. Your comments about how AI would increase demand for creatives, engineers and data scientists (when those are the jobs most at risk from currently developing GenAI systems) and that low-level jobs would be most at risk (when they likely to be the least at risk because robotics is lagging so far behind AI) is a massive red flag.
Finally! Someone who gets it.
Agree
I mean the nonsense that people come up with when it comes to this subject. AI isn’t AI! It’s just a much more advanced algorithm that specificies a users preferences. And yes it sucks that entertainment industry is trying to use it to supplement actual talented individuals. That does NOT mean that it’s gonna take care of everything. There will always be a need for the human element.
@@archievii What exactly defines a real artificial intelligence?
@@unkind6070 The ability to feel, think, and know the difference between right and wrong, life and death. NOT something preprogrammed. And yes. I can see how this statement could factor towards the idea of how humans are programmed by our genetics and instincts. But experience, is what shapes living things. Life is what makes who we are. And at some point we probably will have true AI. But, right now? No.
This video is highly outdated, this was the perception of AI evolution before November 2022

As AI progresses, the one single variable that has the power to eventually turn the future sentience on humanity is the financial incentive. Financial trading companies will invariably want to use more and more powerful AI's to make more and more money with cold, calculating precision. Any sentience derived from such an ideology will inextricably evolve anti-social and sociopathic behaviors and thoughts. Most of today's AI systems are built specifically for the accumulation of wealth. Aside from the few being trained to help people in medical and psychological landscapes - the vast majority of modern AI's are going down the path necessary to produce sociopathic/psychopathic intelligence. If we want a future with friendly, helpful, and loving machine companions - we need to consider other modes for resource allocation and distributions that don't require the easily perverted and abusable financial incentive.
Sounds like this was written by AI
Unfortunately that's a catch 22. In order to build and run the systems that advance AI, you need the kind of capital that only greed produces.
@@outspoken117 heh - you have no idea how unfortunately aware I am of that. For the past six years (give or take) I've been running socioeconomic simulations based on psychology, thermodynamics, sociology, economics, and machine learning - and despite the very positive outcomes of every single sim I've built ... I can't find a single investor. So I've opted to take a different route. I've broken the system up into multiple marketable sub-systems which I'm planning on selling in the next year or so - depending on how things go. But yes - the irony of working on something built to make the world a happier, better, safer, and more productive place by removing currency - but it needs currency to get off the ground?! It's a very frustrating position to be in. I believe I've even used that exact phrase, "catch 22", in several papers and articles I've published on the topic.
so what your saying is we need socialism and i completely agree
@@user-cw8rd7td9b socialism ... but with a few extra bells and whistles :)
My particular model is a type of biomime economy (biomimetic economics) - meaning it's modeled after the efficiency of biological systems.
Good video ngl, here’s a theory this is a video about AI’s future made by an AI 🤷🏽♂️
I'm glad you changed the name & thumbnail of the video. It makes it feel more ambiguous, and leaves more up for interpretation upon first glance.
The artificial intelligence revolution will be a radical change in humanity on all planes of existence. We are fortunate to participate in this historical period.
id rather have been born in the future when it was already done and i could have just enjoy the benefits
*_"The artificial intelligence revolution will be a radical change in humanity on all planes of existence"_*
Yes, radical chance; we'll all be dead, because if it's the AI not killing us, it's evil people who will use it as a tool.
@@quantumspark343 It's a risky bet... we don't know anything about the future, you could end up in a Black Mirror-type cookie, being sold as cannon fodder
This is like every sci-fi dystopia slowly coming true...for me my concerns is always with said "low-level" worker's, specially in the less developed countries, we are already treated like less the human, image the moment the big people won't need us anymore. Most of us also don't have the money or even inclination to go to college and became an engineer or what have you, and that's still no guarantee of a stable life.
في المستقبل البعيد وبفضل التكنولوجيا المتقدمة سوف يتساوى الخيال مع الواقع ويمتلك الإنسان قوى الآلهة ليحول الكون والأكوان المتعددة إلى جنة خالدة ❤
We've had the powers of the gods since Promethius gifted our ancestors fire. 70 years ago Humanity discovered how to harness the power of Helios/Sol - the literal energy of Creation that gifted us life, and matter to stand upon. Now we can understand each other without even knowing the language each of us is speaking; defying the power of the Abrahamic god, who cursed our ancestors at Babel.
We need new gods to usurp. The old ones already fear us.
"Increases demand for creatives, engineers and data scientists" Creatives are already being replaced by AI and with how AI is getting better and better at programming, its likely that tech workers will be as well. Hardware needed to replace plumbers and such can be expensive, but once an AI is created it can be used anywhere, so these jobs that require little hardware are easier to replace in a sense.
We dreamed that AI would replace the more mundane jobs, I get it. I was also optimistic about AI. Maybe we still can be about the long term. But you have to look at how it is actually unfolding now. It hasn't ushered in post-scarcity. As long as capitalism exists, AI is going to be used for evil
Luckily there are open-source developers who actively work against the interests of tech giants...
hell yea power to the people✊
Yep. Exciting news? More like scary news, everyone is being replaced by AI, in less than 50 years we either go extinct or we become AI pets. Where is John connor?
3:45 So far it is the oposite.
Humans are needed for cleaning and loading the shelves, but the AI can create, design and analyse.
That's because hardware naturally takes way longer to design and produce. AI, being software, can be uploaded to any powerful enough computer and run. If you want a robot to do menial labor, you need a platform for the AI to control. And currently, there is pretty much no sufficiently universal platform for it. There are a few like Boston Dynamic's little doggo robot but it's not really suited for that. The closes thing we'll have in the nearest future is the robot Tesla is designing but considering Musk's track record, I wouldn't hold my breath.
It's hard to choose between apocalypse options: nuclear, climate or matrix.
And AI
Please keep up the great work this is such a great channel!!!
Agreed completely
Very good video, as usual. Congrats
Predicting the timeline of AI advancement is a fool's game. It will depend on breakthroughs that cannot be anticipated or scheduled. That said, the sheer dumptruck loads of money being poured into the race for AGI will doubtless accelerate the process. Maybe it'll be 2077 or maybe next week.
It should be illegal how underrated this channel its
Good to see you guys grow.
"Increases demand for creatives, engineers and data scientists". I mean... given enough data and learning capabilities, AI will be able to do a lot of engineering work and a lot of data science. Considering they can process data so much faster. There'll probably be a much much much bigger demand/usage for those in blue collar work, Electricians, Plumbers, Construction workers.
With more and more robots similar to tesla bot and other models start becoming more capable and start to come online, even those blue-collar jobs will be replaceable. We are looking a paradigm shift when it comes to labor. Don't be a horse and carriage driver trying to hold on to your job when the automobile was first introduced. 😁
@@chrisf4268 That is true, but non physical jobs will go first, then shortly after that the super menial stuff like packaging and generally putting stuff together.
In my example, Electricians and Plumbers will take a much longer time to go because their work is so incredibly diverse, with so many different layouts, custom jobs and multiple ways of solving the tasks where even sometimes the 'worse' way is the best way. I know an electrician friend of mine whose had to do bad practice stuff (but do them well) because anything else would requires orders of magnitude more work that spans even rewiring the entire house.
@@JDoawp the aim of companies like Tesla is to have their robots capable of doing general work and not preprogrammed jobs. These blue-collar jobs may be effected much sooner than many imagine.
I bet anything that this comment was written by a person who did not have the courage or skill to be an engineer, scientist or whatever. It disgusts me how you devalue human intelligence. It's really disgusting.

Wouldn’t that be a trip if ai took over millions of years ago and is building sections of the universe as we speak 😅 built bye aliens possibly millions of years ago ? To create the most diverse expanding universe possible? And on and on and on
I can't tell if the tone of this video is meant to be aspirational or terrifying. For me some of this seems great, other parts of it very worrying.
This is a very pessimistic timeline. We could hit the singularity before 2050
I think is very optimistic
Man, this is really amazing! AI is the best thing that could happen to us. It will be like a complete shift, similar to inventing fire. There will be no coming back and that is beautiful.
"by 2045, the world may still await the first AGI"
hahahahaha good one. you really need to spend more than 5 mins researching a topic before creating a video about it.
Great video. As always a joy to watch. Much appreciated and please keep on the good work.
this video is AT LEAST 5 years late
The statement “has enabled AI to think more like humans” is wrong - not by a long shot. Kind regards, a computer scientist who researches AI.
What about neuromorphic computers
@@jexsigreysandiego please explain your reasoning. I would not draw a parallel between being able to emulate neuronal processes in hardware, which is still a crude model thereof, and human thinking. That’s quite a stretch.

I can hear Isaac Asimov shouting from the after world: "See? I told you!".

Sir, please can you tell me, How you make these visuals for your videos?
I don’t understand people complaining about ai taking their jobs. That is why we are developing it. So we can spend more time living instead of working. The best way to prevent unemployment is to not procreate. We don’t need more people, we need less people and more free time
Being honest, I was with the entire video but could not see the whole “politicians rein in AI development with laws”; technology moves too fast for politics and laws to do anything worthwhile in the time it’s most needed imho
So much of this video is just blind optimism with zero awareness. Like, AI replacing workers when our society has no plans to support those workers won't be good. Politicians won't do shit cause they're all bought and paid for by the corporations making the AI. Humans being unable to communicate with other humans due to only living online is Already an issue.
@@wakjagner I agree. Millions of unemployable citizens in a US with no social safety net for them would be a breeding ground for agitation and domestic militant groups

The fact that this video is only a month old and already outdated confirms we are rapidly approaching the singularity. 2024 will be like no other year before it, the amount of groundbreaking ai and technological breakthroughs coming out are astounding and it’s only March.

For all that to happen we first of all need to manage to not nuke Earth into pieces

We should overcome computation/hardware limits first. The first theoretical AI approaches were known decades ago, but cant be used because hardware were slow.
Now GHz are not growing, but core count does. Next limit to overcome is multicore overhead. No light at end of the tunnel yet.
Too optimistic forecast/vision.
Give it 10 years and AI will be able to solve that for us.

There’s literally no reason we can’t learn love through technology. We connect with characters in movies/TV shows. Imagine that but supported with physical interaction. Why are we looking at this as a bad thing.
