    Thanks for posting these, WSK. What a legend Popcorn was. The last link to the original moonshine masters, and a true, humble Southern hero. Born, bred, and died Dixie. Deo Vindice!
    BTW, I'm in the Army, too. Eight years down, twelve to go. Born in Oklahoma, raised in Texas, stationed everywhere. Dixie is and always will be my true home. When I retire, as Jerry Reed would say, I'll be Texas bound and flyin'!

      @@robhill3378 you’re 100% correct, Rob! Being from the mountains of WV, I knew a few fellas that made moonshine and there’s NOTHING easy about it! You’ve really gotta know what you’re doing or you could potentially kill someone with homemade liquor. Many people have gone blind, had major stomach and liver issues and some even killed from drinking what we referred to as “ bathtub brew “

    It's all politics and greed nothing more, just plain simple greed of politicians to get their hands in the working man's pocket. RIP Popcorn Sutton you were truly one of a kind. It would have been a great honor to sit with you for a spell on that mountain and watch the magic happen. I can only imagine how great the stories told would have been to listen to.

    His wife had a memorial building built on there property so people can come visit it and learn about him. She also makes a bunch of things and sells them for souvenirs. This setup he built is one of the things she has in memory of him and a lot more of his life growing up. Hank Williams Jr partnered up with with J&M Concepts LLC and Popcorns wife Pam Sutton to distill and distribute Sutton's whiskey legally for the first time. That is a great way for people to honer his memory by buying some.

    Heartwarming story. This man’s liquor never hurt anyone. Pains me to see what the government did to him.

    • @Sunshine-zg7pw
      @Sunshine-zg7pw 4 роки тому

      John Harris What he had was a great skill. His liquor was a craft, and never caused anyone to go blind or even die like some of the poorly made concoctions of others. I admire this knowledge that had been passed down through generations of settlers from Scotland and Ireland. By Popcorn’s time, many of the steps had to be eliminated because there was no time to do it all in the old ways, and that was a shame. And it still irks me today that what happened to Popcorn was in the name of taxation. We’re all monstrously taxed on our money coming and going, and the IRS is an illegal body, but we’d be in Popcorn’s shoes if we didn’t pay. And now look what’s happening in Virginia. Our beautiful and beloved America is unrecognizable from what the Founding Fathers intended.
      Please forgive my rant.

  • @bikingnutcase0
    @bikingnutcase0 12 років тому

    @staticminded It's called the stump keg, or thump/thumper keg, its purpose is to prevent excess mash or water getting to the condenser or "worm". Its filled with "backings" or the watery, weak stuff you get when the still is winding down(saved from the previous batch). The heat in the steam evaporates more alcohol from the backings, and the cold backings condense the water from the boiler=more alcohol going to the worm! Why add water after? Makes it taste better, and you get more!!
