WSK thank you so much for this and god bless Mr.Sutton and his partner J.B and the rest of his helpers what a blessing it was to watch such a legendary man in his fine art of stilling Likker, he seemed like such a neat old guy I would of liked to meet him .
Thanks for posting these, WSK. What a legend Popcorn was. The last link to the original moonshine masters, and a true, humble Southern hero. Born, bred, and died Dixie. Deo Vindice! BTW, I'm in the Army, too. Eight years down, twelve to go. Born in Oklahoma, raised in Texas, stationed everywhere. Dixie is and always will be my true home. When I retire, as Jerry Reed would say, I'll be Texas bound and flyin'!
That's a real craftsman doing his art. I would have loved to have taking a few shots of that shine. R.I.P. Mr. Sutton. True American Legend right there.
Thank you for sharing!! it brought memories back of my father, uncle and several others gathered up playing guitars, fiddles and whatever else they could... rest in peace Popcorn you will be remembered!
ill admit I never really had respect for "hillbillys" but this guy changed my mind. he spent his life doing what he loved. he's a true American who won't be forgotton
@@robhill3378 you’re 100% correct, Rob! Being from the mountains of WV, I knew a few fellas that made moonshine and there’s NOTHING easy about it! You’ve really gotta know what you’re doing or you could potentially kill someone with homemade liquor. Many people have gone blind, had major stomach and liver issues and some even killed from drinking what we referred to as “ bathtub brew “
It's all politics and greed nothing more, just plain simple greed of politicians to get their hands in the working man's pocket. RIP Popcorn Sutton you were truly one of a kind. It would have been a great honor to sit with you for a spell on that mountain and watch the magic happen. I can only imagine how great the stories told would have been to listen to.
That was a great documentary about a man just trying to make it through the depression best way possible thanks for videoing this --Wish I could have shook his hand just to meet the legend .
man after i stumbled upon part of this series, I went back to the beginning and watched them all straight through, what an awesome production you guys thanks! awesome!

If anybody wanted better a product, it would have to come from the sweet Lord Jesus himself. This was a privilege to watch this master at work. It's sad that the still had to be torn down. Wish it could of been preserved in the memory of Popcorn.
Thank you for sharing this, I enjoyed watching it. It shows a piece of American history that the bastards in Washington would rather not have people see. It was an amazing story told by and Amazing American Hero.
2:18 => "Them damn wild life will get drunk now by god. Damn thats heavy. Shew... Em birds buzzard or crows or whatever eats that there. That corns full of alcohol. They'll fly into one of them damn trees and bust their damn head." Love it. Thanks uploader.
Really great upload, I've just watched all 11 parts ! Thanks go out to Popcorn Sutton, JB, Neal Hutcheson and WSK for this upload ;) It 'was' made here in Ireland using potatoes and 'was' called Poitín - it is still illegal to make it here since 1661 (unless you have a GOVERNment license).
WSK, Thank you for this. I have a funny sort of mixed feeling about it. I'm a law-and-order kind of person, and a near tee-totaller, but.... Damn. This is frigging HISTORY right here, older than a lot of countries, and some mountains. And I remember something about "go and sin no more." Well, there's no way he was ever going to do it again... Why not let him go home and die in peace among his cats? God rest his soul...
Just watched all 11 parts. Thanks for posting this. I have no idea what moonshine tastes like, but after watching this, I sure do want some. Looks delicious.
That's a bit of American culture right there! RIP Popcorn..... I wonder how many of his detractors and the people who tried to put him in jail will be remembered with the same fondness! Good old boy.
My great granddad and two great uncles on my dad's side and two great great uncles on my mom's side were moonshiners. Gives me an idea of how they made it. I'm 50 now but if mom was still alive she would take a belt to me for enjoying this. hehe
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller Almost speechless. A true “HERO” strives to be the best at no-matter what he does. Popcorn was a true American Folk Hero and Artisan. I love the way they gave up some time to that young girl. She sounded good. Hope she goes somewhere. They didn’t kill him. They only made him stronger! That’s he and Ole’ Lucy’s heart beat in the tank! RIP Popcorn, the nosey ones get the pitchfork!
at 5:34 when he says he aint ever gonna make no more - it sounds exactly like the way my great grandmother would have said that! i miss the south so much!
What an amazing guy! This has to be one of the most inspirational videos I have ever watched! Whoever ratted on, messed with, or had anything to do with Popcorn Sutton's arrest and conviction, I hope you all burn in Hell for all eternity!
This is the shit that makes me damn proud to be from the States. Popcorn done near inspired my yankee ass to go out in my backyard and start making my own shine. Great piece of American cinema.
Yeah...... MANY THANKS!!!!!!! More some will ever know. For me this was a how to video for me. I've made coustom shower pans out of sheet copper. Well if i understand it. it is not illegal to make shine. the problem comes in when you sell it. TAXES.. the free cheese always got there damn hand out. for there cut. screw-em. R.I.P Popcorn Sutton
His wife had a memorial building built on there property so people can come visit it and learn about him. She also makes a bunch of things and sells them for souvenirs. This setup he built is one of the things she has in memory of him and a lot more of his life growing up. Hank Williams Jr partnered up with with J&M Concepts LLC and Popcorns wife Pam Sutton to distill and distribute Sutton's whiskey legally for the first time. That is a great way for people to honer his memory by buying some.
Glad you decided to share this with everyone, so we could all see a master working his trade. I think there's a special place in hell for tax men and politicians.
John Harris What he had was a great skill. His liquor was a craft, and never caused anyone to go blind or even die like some of the poorly made concoctions of others. I admire this knowledge that had been passed down through generations of settlers from Scotland and Ireland. By Popcorn’s time, many of the steps had to be eliminated because there was no time to do it all in the old ways, and that was a shame. And it still irks me today that what happened to Popcorn was in the name of taxation. We’re all monstrously taxed on our money coming and going, and the IRS is an illegal body, but we’d be in Popcorn’s shoes if we didn’t pay. And now look what’s happening in Virginia. Our beautiful and beloved America is unrecognizable from what the Founding Fathers intended. Please forgive my rant.
@staticminded It's called the stump keg, or thump/thumper keg, its purpose is to prevent excess mash or water getting to the condenser or "worm". Its filled with "backings" or the watery, weak stuff you get when the still is winding down(saved from the previous batch). The heat in the steam evaporates more alcohol from the backings, and the cold backings condense the water from the boiler=more alcohol going to the worm! Why add water after? Makes it taste better, and you get more!!
RIP Popcorn! You are an INSPIRATION to MANY! Think I'll take a Dying ART!! SLOW AND COOL !! BIG FROG EYES A GOIN' AWAY FAST!! BEST DAMN MOONSHINER THAT EVER LIVED!!
After watching this set of vids. I ponder what ol popcorn woulda thunk about making shine in the north woods of minnesooooota. water colder than a wiches titty and poplar seasoned harder than iron. Imagine proofin some of that! RIP popcorn. you are a gentleman and a scholar and will be truly missed.
You boys play musical instruments real real good. Holy crap, praise Jaralus! Id like to tutor you creatures some day. My music teacher told me that I could be whatever I wanted, as long as I kept believing in Jaralus. We live very close to where you all are, and I KNOW your sister had an abortion. We are in alignment with that which is what we love and want to be a part of. We ARE one now, you won't die.
