    Lovely straightforward guide for PI. Everything nicely explained but still concise. On top of all that you share your raw data which frankly is a rare thing and I should think a great many people are as grateful as I am. It's good for those who havent started yet, or even those who only intend to process data, to get a good at well acquired data so they (and me obvs) can compare their blobby stars and washed out images and have a better idea whats good and whats not. Keep up the good work and thanks again

    Hi Luke,
    This tutorial is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I am diving into narrowband monochrome astronomy and needed to know more about how to merge the data. I am currently working on M16 but only have a few hours of HA and Oxygen .... Thank you CLOUDS very much. I plan to capture more O3 and a complete round of Sulfur when the clouds clear out, whenever that might be. At least the moon is moving away. Again, thank you for this great tutorial. Take care of that sore throat.

    I wasn't able to follow along Luke as I don't have PixInsight, but still downloaded the data and had some fun in PS. Ended up with a very slight hint of green and yellow on the edge but its mainly red and blue. Also did a starless version. Thanks for providing a great data set. Nice image and video mate and thanks for the mention with the other members at the end, it's a nice touch.

      I find that if there's not a dense amount of stars in your image, going with larger DBE samples also helps with correcting field issues etc. I tend to do a division, and then a subtraction. And I tend to use DBE on each channel before combining, but everyone has different preferences and pretty much all methods work well. It's just what you are used to!

      Hey there mate! - I love using DSH, it works really well just about every time i've ever used it - quite a reliable tool it seems!

      it's a really nice script. I personally tend to ONLY use it on my LUM channel data. Straight out defaults. Most of these days I do a blend of the original image and a DSE adjusted image via PixInsight. My trick is:
      1. clone original image twice
      2. invert clone #1 and add as a mask to original image (protecting the nebulosity but not background with the mask)
      3. apply DSE on clone #2
      4. combine via PixelMath using:
      (original+dse)/2
      you'll want single expression ticked, save as new image, and original colour space selected. This PixelMath expression averages the images out when combining them. PixelMath is your friend.
      This limits the effects of the DSE script to a smaller selection of areas on the original image.
      Masks are YOUR friend in PI. Use them, use them often, and use them well. They will only benefit your final image imho.
      Note: I use this method because you CANNOT use DSE script on an image with a mask.
      Hope this helps!

    Just a suggestion, could you use a tool in order to add a yellow circle around the mouse pointer, it is hard sometimes to see where you click

    As always Luke super great pacing of the tutorial which I think is key. Full of great tips, I wonder as a newbee to PI, is the morphological at the end equivalent to a curve stretch to reduce stars or do you find it works better. Nice result Mate, clear skies to you.

      Re: morphological transformation, I think it works better than a destretch as star size and in some ways shape seem to be physically manipulated by the tool, it'd be interesting to experiment with both though of course! :-)

      bypass PS and go to PI mate. But beware PI can appear difficult to learn. It just takes time and practice (lots of practice). It's important to get a good workflow, and learn how to best use the basic, everyday common tools.

    Great video Luke !! I really like your straightforward approach to pixinsight . Since watching your previous pixinsight tutorial for osc I'm now using your exact workflow and have saved all the processes on the right hand side. Going to do the same now for mono. The only question I have on this tutorial is when would do noise reduction and which type ? Thanks Luke

      You make a very good point regarding noise reduction on this one, I'd personally do it at the end before saving and use TGVDenoise most likely, but turned down to about 2 strength (I think it comes on at 5) - I hope that helps! 👍👍

      Paul - I personally use MLT in linear state and then TGVdenoise right near the end in non-linear state. Each to their own. I'm usually very careful with my noise reduction levels and adjust on a per image basis.

    Hey my osc data has improved tremendously with your videos and scripts . But before that happened I bought a narrowband set up complete with eaf efw 3/4nb Baader filter set . Along with this great setup and learning curve came the oiii halos and to some degree in ha . There is a halo remove script in pixinsight but only one video on that tool and its no help for me.
    can you do a video on removing halos . Thanks again

      OBS Studio is great for capture, as you can select the whole display or individual app windows, as well as overlay webcams or audio etc.

      @@lukomatico here we go: instagram.com/p/CSUWDJqpzgg/ processed in PI with a more complex workflow than the One demonstrated here in your tutorial video (it doesn't mean my workflow is better!). Pretty happy with how it came out.
      I tend to go with bigger DBE samples and I also use both division and subtraction. I use masks quite a fair bit at various points in my workflow too, especially with adjusting colours. I have learned several things from your various tutorial videos though and I'm putting them to use in my workflow where possible. I've only been using PixInsight for around 6 weeks now.
      My DSO rig is not up and running yet as I need several things still and I'm currently unemployed, so no money to get them. I've been practising on data from telescope.live and data kindly provided by other users. I have a long way to go with PixInsight, but gradually learning more and more and I'm way more comfortable now than I was 6 weeks ago!!!!
