I never thought the Queens of Metal would be 3 little Japanese girls.
Queens of Metal...like the sound of that
To me, this is the ultimate BABYMETAL song. It has everything that is BABYMETAL, it's heavy as hell, it's cute, it's very japanese and has great lyrics! This is BABYMETAL!
Yeah I know what you mean. Such a cool balance of different elements. So good!
@@ThomFoolery1 Watch their live performances ;)
@@ThomFoolery1 - the girls were already this good at dancing before Babymetal was formed, and they were less than 12 years old on average. it's not so much that they were trained but that they rose to the top of the industry individually and then were assembled. they were all part of the same talent agency.
the two younger girls yui and moa happened to be almost exactly the same age and the same size. they were always put together. Babymetal wasn't the only thing they were part of at that time. you could add them on to anything they were so cute and great dancers. i love this video it's yui and moa (and Su) dancing to a cute song with Sakura Gakuin. ua-cam.com/video/H0imue5uHiw/v-deo.html BM started as a subgroup of SG. Yui and Moa are in the black look how tiny they are. Su is in white she starts in the center right. She's the one who is over-dancing :) This was not before Babymetal i'm pretty sure they performed as Babymetal at this concert.
Su the lead singer on the other hand was the oldest and most accomplished. she'd already been in a 3 girl group that released a full album and did concerts and tv appearances. the concept was formed around her. she was nearly 13 :) the girl in the video next to Su in the center left is Ayami Muto who was with Su in her previous 3 girl Trio. She's still releasing music. The two taller girls are professional models.
@@Jordan-Ramses Two best dancers? Yuibot and white shirt guy. At times Su's dancing seems a little hyperactive.
A couple days ago it was announced that BABYMETAL's recent album, "Metal Galaxy", won the MTV Japan VMA 2020 award for BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR.
Great reaction. I think you can see why 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for their favourite BABYMETAL song even though it was one of their earliest. It is also the song they have played live more than any other and remains a feature on most of their live set lists.
Like Karate (I guess you haven't seen that yet either), 'Megitsune' reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen I think) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explain why all the fox masks) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) ... and they are strong.
The breakdown with the pig squeals uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo.
The 'Megitsune' music video and single came out on June 4th, 2013. Su was 15, and Yui and Moa were 13, (about to turn 14). Su will be 23 in December, Moa is 21.
The guys with the traditional instruments were dancers belonging to the group run by the lady who did the fan dance during the breakdown.
They even got a traditional blessing by a priest in a ceremony when this single was released.

You have already been told about Professor Hartley's analysis video - that really is worth seeing, he has some fascinating things to say about this song.
Hey there, thank you so much for sharing all of this information, I really appreciate it. It's fascinating how much there is to learn about this band all things considered. I would never have guessed the meaning of Megitsune, thank you. I need to hear it again knowing that. So many interesting references.
Thank you again! :D
@@ThomFoolery1 My pleasure - and if you do watch Prof Hartley's video there is even more to it.
5:47 when Su unsheathes the knife hidden in her microphone, she says in Japanese, "Maidens are not to be underestimated".
Thank you! I was wondering about that. So badass. :)
@@ThomFoolery1 "The last chorus contains the phrase "underestimate [maidens] at your own peril" (なめたらいかんぜよ, nametara ikan ze yo, literally "if you underestimate, it would be regrettable"), which is also famously said by Masako Natsume's character in the 1982 yakuza film "Onimasa";[18][19][20] whether or not this was intentional has never been confirmed."

Megitsune is still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography.
They've performed it more than any other song, and it often comes in at the top of fan polls for favorite BABYMETAL song.
The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group.
Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
When Su-metal pulls out the tanto (short blade) she says:
"Otome wa… nametara ikan zeyo." ("Maidens… should not be underestimated.")
That's a line said by the gangster's daughter in the film 'Kiryu-in Hanako no Shogai' (1982), by actress Masako Natsume.
It was released in the USA as 'Onimasa'.
Much of the video was shot on location at a Noh stage near the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo.
You might consider 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' for your next reaction.
Folks have been reacting to this 2013 performance from the 'Legend 1997' concert without issues:
ua-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/v-deo.html
Excellent reaction, thanks!
"Megitsune" is considered BABYMETAL's quintessential, it's one of the top favorites and their most played live song (232 times to be exact). Also my personal favorite along with "Akatsuki" so I'm glad you enjoyed it. And welcome to the Fox Hole! ...because your face is telling us you are falling into it, head first.
See you next time!
Thank you very much! Yes I can definitely understand that. Excited to explore more. Cheers 😃🤘
Great reaction, always cool to see someone really get it. Megitsune is a lot to take in the first time. A lot of their songs are; one of the most consistent things about Babymetal is that they do love to change things up over the course of a song.
I'd recommend the live version "Headbanger" from the concert "Legend of 1997" next. It's another setlist staple of theirs for good reason.
Thank you very much! Yeah each song I've heard so far deserves multiple listens! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll get to it soon. 😀🤘
Very nice reaction! No matter how many Babymetal songs you listen, you always come back to 'Megitsune'. As other people mentioned, you should watch them live beacuse the full Babymetal experience is extremely better.
Thank you for your reactions and welcome to the Fox Pit, you'll never regret 🦊
Thank you very much! Yeah I'm super keen to explore the fox hole more and see these live performances. Cheers! 😃🤘
You need to see them live. Minds will be blown 🤯. Try "Headbanger live Legend 1997" or "Road of Resistance live in Japan"
next should be Headbanger from Legend 1997. you have to see them live where they shine. you watched BMC which is from last year to now an older song from 2013. the song was done 2012 but the video came out early 2013. the lead singer was 15 years old in this video and the other two were 13 i think. you will be hooked after next song.
Thanks very much!
What a beautiful reaction man! I can see your honesty
Thank you very much! 😃
Great to see you doing another Babymetal reaction. As others say, you’ll be blown away, by their live performances.
BabyMetal. Awesome musicians, great vocals, and the girls are cute as hell. What's not to love?
Good reaction! Keep em comin. Every song is different but awesome.
Cheers James! 😀🤘

SORE SORE SORE SORE SORE SORE SORE ! ! !
Great reaction Megitsune is one of my favorite Babymetal songs. I like their music videos but their live performances are so much better, the atmosphere at their live shows in Japan is another level. You should check out Road of Resistence live in Japan or Headbanger at Legend 1997 to get a feeling of these shows.
Thank you very much! Excited to react to their live videos soon! 😀🤘
Need to checkout the new song by Bring Me the Horizon ft Babymetal called Kingslayer...awesome collab!!!
Oh that sounds interesting. Thanks! 😁
"Megitsune" (メギツネ,) was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin. the full music video, directed by Takuya Tada (多田卓也), uploaded to the official Babymetal channel on June 4, 2013. When this video was release Su Metal was just 15 (16 if don't count birthday) while Yui Metal & Moa Metal was 13 (14 if don't count birthdays).
Unlike screams in traditional heavy metal, "Megitsune" is filled with festival chants by Yui Metal and Moa Metal like "wasshoi" and "sore sore", while Su Metal sings in the melodramatic style of enka.
Commentary from BabyMetal for this MV:
ua-cam.com/video/tXCC93Txtnw/v-deo.html
(MV: ua-cam.com/video/cK3NMZAUKGw/v-deo.html)
The music video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo; it is now a popular spot for Babymetal fans from outside Japan to visit. The three members are shown dancing in Noh theater. In the last chorus,
The song contains lyrics such as "from the time of birth, women are actresses" which reflect on the song's theme of women remaining strong when living with their varied facial expressions. The song relates foxes, which disguises themselves for deception in Japanese mythology, to women, who disguise themselves with makeup. According to Su Metal. foxes are similar to women as they can keep their true feeling hidden, even through hard times, leaving a cool impression. The last chorus contains the phrase "underestimate [maidens] at your own peril" (なめたらいかんぜよ, nametara ikan ze yo, literally "if you underestimate, it would be regrettable"), which is also famously said by Masako Natsume's character in the 1982 yakuza film "Onimasa"; whether or not this was intentional has never been confirmed.
You should see this live the crowd sing alone and dances it's cool, also check out Road of Resistance if you haven't yet
Nice reaction again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。As you said what you heard at the beginning (00: 53 -) was sound by Koto (琴), a traditional instrument. As Grington300 300 and Rick Wagner explained below, Su-Metal pulled the short blade from her microphone and said "Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated". At their concerts in any country, the majority of the crowd are men. Young, old, hairy, bald, skinny, fat, tattooed ... many such mannish guys shout with Su "Maidens shouldn't be underestimated!" in Japanese (especially in UK). After married lives start, those guys come to realize this statement is true. Ha ha ha ! So did I 😢 If you want to see their live performance, how about starting with "KARATE (live Download UK 2016)" or "Road of Resistance live in Japan" ?
Thank you very much! It's interesting learning the backstory of this song. Such a cool message and performed in such an interesting way. Very keen to hear some live performances! 😄🤘
@@ThomFoolery1 Thanks for your response. Please react to "BABYMETAL Rondo of Nightmare Live @ Budokan Black Night". Please make sure that you are going to react to 7-minute long video (There are some shorter versions which cut the intro part of instrumental players' super solos which you will definitely love)
Megitsune is a crazily good musical composition. I don't know what have you heard of Babymetal, you might consider listening to Arkadia, _Ijime, Dame Zettai,_ Road of Resistance, Headbanger...
I haven't heard these, I'll check them out! Thanks 😊
SAME....your reaction was just like mine back when I first saw this video. Plus it looks like the girls are having an absolute blast doing this video which is what makes it my favorite video of theirs.
Thanks for the reaction. I love BABYMETAL! Check out their live stuff! Headbanger, Pa Pa Ya, Karate, Rondo of Nightmare, Road to Resistance are all good!
same euphoric and epic feels to this like when I discovers trivium with "pull strings"
Pretty much all their songs are different from each other, different genres too, and it's great.
I loved your reaction! Great job! Check more songs and their live performances! 🤘🦊🤘
Thanks a lot! I will. 😄
Great reaction and welcome to the fox hole. “Road of resistance” in the next must to see epic song.
Thank you! 😀
You really ought to look at their first offical music video "Doki Doki Morning"; you'll be picking your jaw up off the floor ... several times!
Nice reaction, always good to see when people are just enjoying the music and what's happening on screen without overthinking everything, something a lot of people tend to do with Babymetal. Just want to add, the "sore, sore" and "soiya, soiya" from Moa and Yui are traditional Japanese chants used at summer festival songs and dances. So you weren't that far off with your playground analogy.
Thanks very much! Yes that's understandable. It's fun to just lose yourself in the music/video and experience it without over-analysing. Thanks for sharing the info about the chants. Very interesting. 😀🤘
i know i'm late and you probably won't see this, but it's cool to know that the dissonant part in the bridge you were talking about actually comes from a traditional japanese folk song called 'sakura sakura'! i absolutely love how this song blends metal and japanese culture so well
Never too late! Thanks for sharing the information. So cool that they incorporate those traditions. 🙂
4:25 FUCKING CHILLS EVERYTIME
Give that drummer a beer or whatever she wants. She killed it. Great song by all.👍🏻👍🏻
Where are you hiding that PRS? To nice to be left in the background 😁😁😁😁
Haha yes, drumming impresses me so much! I was thinking of displaying the PRS more but didn't want to be pretentious 😂
@@ThomFoolery1 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Another reaction with the PRS every now and then would be great👍🏻👍🏻
Stops video before the breakdown and says "this is intense" LOL :-)
Confused in a good way, is a definitely a good thing !
Babymetal is best live... can I suggest: Babymetal Death at the show Legend 1997
Haha! Thank you. 😃🤘
Great reaction and review man, love it !
Thanks a lot! 😀
The Su death stare was in full effect!
Pure BABYMETAL
🤘🤘🤘
All hail The Fox God

I like your room’s decor - very leafy and it also happens to blend in well with the video’s wall artwork. Nice enjoyable reaction. React to any BABYMETAL song next... they’re all good. Generally go live... this one being an exception.
Thank you very much Kevin! I can't take any credit for the Decor, that is all the Mrs haha. Glad you enjoyed it. More Babymetal videos to come for sure. 😃🤘
love this sm!!!!!!
All the way in now mate!

Great great reaction man. You need watch this performance live! Believe me is absolutely Amazing!! I recommend you watch the official video of Ijime Dame Zetai and then the live version of 2014. See you! 🤟🏻 🦊
Oh my, you started with BxMxC (great choice btw)? Sometimes is like some time-travel trip when you see a kickass video like this and then check the year and do the math.
p.s. the squeal seems to get every reactor's attention
Maidens are not to be underestimated ❤❤❤
Training? Su metal The Queen literally born with microphone in her hands 🦊
good reaction , they just released a song by BMTH which is a colab with Babymetal .. holy crap is it good its called Kingslayer you need to react to this one
Thanks!! 😀
Great reaction bro! Definitely check out more Babymetal my dude!
Thank you! 🙂🤘
Megitsune , yeah this song MV is best under Gimme Chocolate . This fast and make me headbang everytime since many years ago . Good reaction , and wait for BABYMETAL reaction again .
Suggestion for MV : BABYMETAL - Karate
Suggestion for Live : BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance
Suggestion for new : Bring me the Horizon ft. BABYMETAL - Kingslayer
Enjoy !!! 🤘🦊
Thanks for the suggestions! 😁
It's a very female song. Female metal song that performed perfectly by very young girl. Who would ever though? I saw many great bands suffering from bad vocals but my god this is not one of them! And it's still true metal. How this even possible...
great reaction🤘😆🍅
Thank you! 😄🤘
Could be worth checking out Whispered - Strike, and perhaps Wagakki Band (any song I guess) also :)
Ok here is why i think you should be way bigger than you are. There is reactors who are really commentators or analysing the content, there is reactors who just sit through something playing on their phone, or ones that just fake reactions.
Now i am autistic so maybe im bad at telling, but you actually REACT to things. I have to say its rare i see so much expression in videos. Dont want to downplay your commentary either, say here the analysis of rhythm changes was spot on. But unlike so many others you actually know how to react, which is in my humble oppinion, the one thing you should do in reaction videos, the rest is a great Bonus ^^
Wow, thank you my friend for this lovely comment. That really means a lot to hear you say. There's definitely different types of reactors and I understand why some may prefer more technical and analytical reactions but I can't really compete with that so I just try to enjoy myself. 🙂
@@ThomFoolery1 and thats perfect. sure sometimes it scool to have something analysed or commented on but reactions are fro...reactions. You dont go to a 5 star restaurant to order a big mac.
Also facial expressions like this really help my to "learn" and kinda ope with the downsides of being autistic and sharing emotions. you do great work, please continue doing so =)
@@OrkarIsberEstar that's really interesting to hear! I wouldn't have thought my videos could help with that. Thank you again! 😃👍
Megitsune. Most of their songs are better live, but sometimes hard to compare, because the video gives so much more to the whole.
That said, this MV overpowers any live versions.
Great reaction!
Next "Road of resistance" live in japan
This is great performance!
Thanks! 😀🤘
I think the snare went half time on the last chorus but the kicks maintained their pace. Good call on the koto btw. It's not picked up on a lot. You should check out more, they do a lit of interesting things musicaly
Ah yes, you're right! It's such a nice touch. Excited to hear more. Thanks! 🙂

crazy how this little girls now grew up to beautiful women xD ♥ moa ♥

Nice react man, but try react to live shows, are the bests, try react to ROAD OF RESISTANCE, i think you like a lot!
Great reaction! I think it‘s pretty amazing how they managed to find such a unique niche. Nobody had ever thought of this before, yet it works so perfectly and has such a great entertainment value that it somehow almost seems obvious. How could one not have a huge smile watching this?
I can’t wait to see you react to a live show. If you‘d like to get an idea how this translates to the stage in front of an insane crowd, check out this performance of the song at Metrock Festival: www.dailymotion.com/video/x5fak8n
For another reaction, I‘m pretty sure you‘d love „Rondo of Nightmare“: ua-cam.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/v-deo.html
Thank you very much! Yes they've definitely found an amazing niche. Looking forward to hearing the live stuff. Cheers 😄

Wow, I guess I have to take a look at more japanese music beyond anime soundtracks! Very nice! And from one Thomas to another and in case you wondered if flute solos and Hurdy Gurdies work awesomly with Metal music: Check out Eluveitie (/ɛlˈveɪti/ el-VAY-tee) with their track "Rebirth" ( ua-cam.com/video/d-pSq4MJmy8/v-deo.html )
Hey Thom! Yeah I think that was my initial thoughts too! Haha. Thanks for the suggestion! 😀🤘
Another great reaction Thomas :) There is lots going on capturing where the girls and band was at at the time, and wider symbolism drawn from Japanese culture. If you have the time watch this (it's about 30 minutes long), Andrew goes into the intricacies of both musical composition and the visuals in the video. ua-cam.com/video/eFZ_dTIc13c/v-deo.html
Thank you very much Mariko! I'll check this out!
you were sort of close...it was not 2:2 time..it was 3:4 time...listen to the drums and the double bass is actual kickin a 3:4 .. you almost cant hear it because of the double kicks on a double base
you should react to S.A.T.A.N. by MachineGunPoetry it's really good and i think you would like it
Thanks! 🙂
@@ThomFoolery1 no problem 😊 it’s super catchy and I think you would love it 😊
Are you British or Japanese
Have to be a monster to see them and not find it adorable. I can understand if you are not into it, or dislike the music even. What gets me is the hate that some people have for it. I don't really hate any music personally. Sure there is stuff I don't like but never let it get so personal that I actively hate it. Not worth that effort.
