Great comparison Alyona, I do like Ph Martin's Sap Gr - its a perfect mid value and easy to tweak - but recently I became a convert to the DS Sap Gr for my sketching palette. It's good straight out of the tube. It has the value range to paint the lights and shadow, and I only need think about slight variations for aerial perspective and a bit colour variety in the vegetation. My only gripe is its really staining compared to the greens I mix myself and I'll probably get bored of it in a few months.
I love greens also and so far I have two favorites. Sennelier Olive is like a deep sap green color that is just beautiful. I recently bought Prima Decadent Pies and the Key Lime is quite pretty, too. Thanks for comparing these, I may have to try that Daniel Smith Sap.
The Daler Rooney ones is closest to what I think of as sap green. I have the perfect custom mix- and I’m running out of the premixed batch and realized I never wrote down the formula. Fml
My fav of 13 artist grade wc is Winsor & Newton sap green. I've spent series $ on my favorites and even though it is an easy mix I love the gentle green.🤗
What a huge difference in colours! I have W&M which I've used a lot, and White Nights and I'm happy to see I love the White Nights! This was really interesting to watch. Thank you!
Hello Alyona! I am just a beginner with watercolor and I really enjoy your videos! Thank you so much for them! Could you tell me which swatchbook you are using? I like it a lot and if it comes from Jackson's I could buy one too since I am in Germany. Keep up the good work you are doing many people a great favour! Love and light! Marvelenia
thank you! these are all so beautiful! i have daniel smith, and a tube of swc (that was sent to me by mistake that i haven't tried yet), the one in wn cotman set and soon to have the white nights one - will probably order one for my qor set too. it's so funny how they are all so different in color yet all so mixable into what you want. :D enjoy and have a great day
Yes totally! I find either Indian Yellow or Schmincke's Horadam Transparent Yellow [which looks like an Indian Yellow] makes any of my greens more interesting, lifts it up. Recently I saw Wonder Forest mixing a nice green with Hookers Green with Burnt Umber, a bit more on a muted side but looks quite organic. I want to try that mix. Thanks for your uplifting comments and have a great day too Crystal! :)
When i think of sap green i think of a color that i am taking afield to paint foliage. Of the ones that you have i would have to say that ph.martin is closser but i am not taking that with me. No wonder i dont love any of these. I do have daniel smith sometimes if i want a dark sap. And then add a clear yellow...just a drop...but that said...da vinci, m.graham, or meriblu...or winsor newton.
is your ds sap green the older version with the original quin gold po 49 or the newer version with the 3 pigments? never mind i see u already answered this Q below. :)
Aquafine are actually made with a high degree of pure pigment....in their recent formula....go figure, absolute bargain and should be a first stop for a watercolour beginner or those on a tight budget. I went on a two day painting course with Dalers artist rep and he's astonished at the quality of Daler's aquafine. Just thought this might be of interest to some watching your videos. Love your videos btw x
That is really interesting! Don't remember if I mentioned it in this video but it was my first ever watercolour set, which I bought when first studying Art in College. And last year got it for my three year old son as his first watercolour palette! :)
Yes,they've improved the whole range and I can't make much of a difference between Aquafine and many of the Artist 's quality brands. They are just super quality paints!
I wanna to make sap green I don't have sap green but Alyona you are only showing the colour shades plz if you can then plz make a video how to make sap green colour ok? I am not saying that you have to make it I have said if you can then make the video, pls.............🙏🙏
Thank you for the comparison. Saftgrün by Schminke is not even close to Daniel Smith's (which is crazy beautiful on it's own and mixed with ultramarine) 😳
Thanks for this review..although I only have mijello but I think that Daniel Smith is the most beautiful and natural one
Thank you! Yes colours are such a personal thing, luckily there is such a big variety to suit all tastes and styles :)
I love the Daniel Smith too, to me also, it's the most natural looking.
I totally agree.Karen from Canada
i realize Im pretty off topic but do anybody know of a good website to watch new series online ?
@Winston Tripp I dunno I would suggest flixportal. You can find it through google :P -ayden

That Daniel Smith sap green is amazing!
I prefer Daniel Smith.too dark in it's mass tone but diluted it's the most natural.

I think Daniel Smith version seems to be the most natural . But is this one using the old formula (containing PO49)?
Nope mine must be the new version, it's a mix of three pigments: PO48, PY150, PG7.

So a deep color is automatically muddy? Interesting.
