You know what? I'm pretty much in the same boat.
I have one thing. "Dziękuje" is when he, she, it (in polish on, ona, ono) is thankful, and "dziękuję" is when I am (in polish ja jestem) thankful. But dont care. In Poland everyone is writing "dziekuje" in every person.
As a person who does not speak Polish, I will make it my mission to learn these Polish phrases as perfectly as possible and say them in public to find a person who would understand it and evoke a horror reaction to it.

As someone learning Polish, this is unironically one of the best breakdowns of the language I've come across. I'd pay for a whole course, no cap.

No no no. There are several different meanings of this particle, but when used with verbs, it usually means "across" or "all the way through". For example, "jechać" means "to drive" but "przejechać" means either "drive across (a distance)" or "run over (somebody)". Another interesting thing is that prefixes in front of verbs change imperfective verbs (describing an action currently being done) into perfective verbs (describing an action already finished). Compare "uczyć się" (to be learning) with "nauczyć się" (to have learned). So to recap, "mamy przejebane" means "we have been fucked over".

As a polish person living in Britain polish had become a second language to me and I can’t tell apart ś and sz or ż and ź for the life of me
it's pretty similar, but we pronounce "sz" and "ż" with our lips rounded, whereas with "ś" and "ź" we grin. That's hugely oversimplified, but maybe it helps.
If everybody can understand you, then it doesn't matter.

I have the same problem. Even though I was born in Britain the first language I learned was Polish, but after years of going to British schools Polish became a second language to me, so much so that i sometimes struggle with speaking with my Polish relatives (basically all of my family). I don’t mind Polish being my second language and English being my first but the language barrier struggles are real😭

I lived in Poland for a while in the 90's. What I remember most are the sweets you could buy on the streets, and the incredible skill with which the Polish could weave sarcasm and vulgarity into a tapestry of awesomeness. Bardzo dobre c'uio znowu!
