This is awesome. Not only was this tutorial helpful for resizing, it helped me clean up a mess of a box design with loops and radii. I learn more every time I use Lightburn. Top job! Thanks!!
Those corners don’t identify as slots, they are neither tabs or slots, they are the non binary Haha, anyway I wish lightburn could remedy this, I always change them manually
You sir are a genius, This will cut down on SO much excess processing time when importing off thickness designs or if an order is for a different thickness of materials. Thank you so much.
This is amazing. I purchased some designs from Etsy that use some odd sized plywood that I haven’t been able to source. i’ve also found there is quite a bit of variation when ordering 3 mm plywood. I can’t wait to try this out. Thank you. You all are the best
I am into boxes so this is a real time saver. Thanks and I am glad I bought lightburn at $60. At the rate features are being added, it will be much more expensive in the future. Keep up the great work.
LightBurn, thank you for this awesome feature, it saves me a lot of time. The odd corners that it does not change, I fix with node editing which is also quick to fix. I just love this program making my life a lot easier!! THANK YOU!
Although it's short, I put this on a watch later list. Too distracted to pay attention right now. But this will certainly be handy. This is something I struggle with in LightBurn and, for that matter, Vectric as well.
What a fabulous idea !! I have needed this feature many times over the years. I find that I often use Lightburn for my CNC router projects too. Its just more logical and not as cluttered as other softwares. This and inkscape are my two 'go to' "CAD" softwares. (Despite having other more specialized software options)
Oh wow it's like you're reading my mind, I just purchased some designs on Etsy and the plywood size I got from Amazon is of course not correct and I was wondering how to fix all that. Great tutorial (and great tool honestly!)
it would be very nice to have parametric design ability - replace the length with a named variable. Have the named variable to a get its value from a math expression that includes other named values and constants, and one can use a single design for a lot of different sizes and thicknesses
This is a great idea and a huge time saver. However, whereas it adjust the pockets just fine, it only seems to lengthen the line on the inside of tabs where there are more than one.
2:05 -- Looks like you're still not ready to send it to the laser. It missed one of the slot walls on the right panel. Interestingly though -- as you were clicking between the different modes (slot depth, tab height, etc.), it did highlight this edge on tab height, but then ignored it on slot depth.
Is is difficult to do in a fully automatic way, and we wanted to get something that would do 80% of the work into people’s hands while we continue to improve it. It should greatly help to speed up the process.
Thank you for this video, very handy update to lightburn indeed. I have a question about something else mentioned @2:28 Loops. What are they for? To prevent edges from getting too burnt, or for more fluid movement of the laser? Thank you.
They have some documentation on it if you are interested in diving in a bit further. The main reasons are continuous motion during cutting and to leave the length of the straight lines (that will be butting up against other pieces of the box) unchanged. Here is their info: florianfesti.github.io/boxes/html/api_burn.html
Great video. Question on closed slots specifically, or rectangles found within the design I should say. I will often design where a slot needs to be locked on one side and adjust from the left or right, top or bottom, and not the center. It appears the slot sizer only adjusts from center currently... is that correct? I currently use the reference point today to lock one side and adjust.
Correct - the resizer always adjusts rectangles from center. We’d like to improve the functionality of it over time, so I’ll add this to our suggestion list.
It works well.....but the tabs that are not "Deep" but rather are "outer tabbed arent being recognized with the matching values. What i mean is, even if I toggle through depth, width, or height. It could very well be because of the etsy file I am using. I am hoping I will figure this out as I have a file that supports 3.2mm wood, but I have 3.5mm and I have some 4.5mm i would like to use. Any suggestions?
There are some limitions around the edges. We will continue to improve the process and wanted to get this tool into people's hands as it does greatly speed up the process.
Nice feature. I have a question. I'm a beginner. Is there a way to scale a box for example, without affecting the tabs & slots and keep them at 3.2mm? Maybe using a % scale? Thanks
@@lightburnsoftware7189 Thanks for the quick reply. Just tried and unfortunately it didn't work for me. I'm on V1.3.01Linux I've selected the shape, then in the resize window old 3.2mm new 4.8mm. I have been using Lightburn for a short time, and I am having some difficulties. When I work with images using one of the available parameters, in the preview the image doesn't appear, it gets a dark image, the image only appears when the grayscale parameter is used. Does anyone know how I should proceed so that the image appears correctly in the preview?
Zoom in. The preview is not able to make the dots small enough to show the detail that the laser can, and is really only intended to show the path the laser will take, not what the finished output will look like.
