It's really amazing that Rupert Murdoch in real life somehow manages to be MORE condescending towards his son (that arm pat!) than the Brian Cox fictional character
Thankful to creators of Succession, one of the best shows I’ve watched. Just brilliant. And you can actually see a lot how this snobbish and corrupted world works behind the door we don’t see. Plus casting is insanely good!
The difference is that Logan Roy is an intimidating colossus of a man, a truly terrifying bully. Murdoch comes across more like Mr Burns - a weasel-like slime ball and coward.
Logan Roy was like that towards his family, private equity investors, business associates and his C-suite. Broadcast portrayal whenever (albeit rarely) he spoke publicly was much more benign. And I can assure you the same is the case with Rupert Murdoch. I can tell you another thing, out of 100 richest people on Forbes' list 90% are big swinging dicks "macho" men who were blessed with higher levels of intelligence and marriage of these two qualities (admittedly, rare) is often a recipe for success. Weasel-like cowards do not have tenacity necessary to survive at the top. I've been working as a data scientist for closely embedded into M&A team at big consulting boutique at the Street and observed this pattern for last 6 years.
There is a connection with the show and portrayal of Murdoch. James Cromwell, who plays Ewan Roy, also played Rupert in the stage production of Murdoch in Sydney.
It is funny how different the courtroom scene looked like in real life vs Succession. In succession, the room is paneled with expensive wood walls, a marble entryway, huge lamps, oak wood desks, and comfier-looking chairs. I know I would like to have myself be taken out by the law in the Succession courtroom than the IRL one with cheap plastic chairs, desks, crappy lighting, and commercial carpeting.
For what its worth, the 'courtroom' scene in Succession was a hearing held by the US congress, and this is is a hearing held by British MPs. But you're right - reality is so much less glamorous than tv sometimes!
@@RoyKoopaling There's plenty of grand Victorian meeting rooms in the British Parliament. This meeting just happened to be in a fairly underwhelming "modern refurbished" room. Might have been a psychological tactic by the British MPs to bring Murdoch down to Earth / make the point that they're not rolling out the red carpet for him.
Kendall Roy is no James Murdoch. James didn't rattle and told the world matter of factly that his father had enabled the careers of key British politicians & that they needed to remember that & do his bidding. Couldn't help but respect it. Also his departure from the empire, hats off.

Life imitates art (or vice versa) in any case Well done. The only thing missing is if someone would've attempted to chuck a shaving cream pie at Logan Roy 😂🎉👏🏾
I'd read about Rupert's "most humble day of my life" phrase supposedly being the basis for Logan's speech but I'd honestly not believed it because Logan's speech was typical. I mean, what else would he say? But then the thing with passing the bucket to his son and 👀 maybe there is actually a connection 😂
now if only Rupert would do what Logan did during Connor's wedding... there is NO reason a person should be a billionaire and the way he controls the media. Pure evil.
