  • Resin tutorial for beginners like me ! A fun newbie project !!
    Discover how to use resin, how and what you can use to color it and embed in it. Also learn the what not to do !!
    Disclaimers : This is my first try in resin making, so please don't be too harsh.
    Bare with me please because, as you can imagine, as a beginner it was not easy and there was hesitation in what I was going to do. But in fact, it is very versatile and fun to do ! And there are so many ways you can use it !
    It is a 2 part video because I didn't want it to be too long to watch.

    Great tutorial there girl ...Frank and honest . I'm fairly new to resin myself ...but I AM a Pro Cake decorator .And As Such ...I have moulded HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Fondant ...Chocolate ...Isomalt...Candies.....Over a LOT of years ...AND FIMO !!! You name it ....I'VE MOULDED IT !!!!LOL !!! The one tip I would give you is ..You have to meticulously clean the EDGES of your moulds BEFORE they set..( regardless of the medium you are using )...But in this case with resin.. When it gets " soft plasticy " consistency....get a craft knife ..and some tissue to wipe after EACH tiny clean...(.use an OLD blade )....as you run the risk of slicing the actual mould !!!!. ( I did it myself MANY MANY years ago ...learned my lesson with the blade ...and never did it since !!!! ) PLUS.....The quality of the base /back of your item depends on NOT overfilling it ...the front of the finished piece is ALWAYS the bottom of the mould ...the bit you are touching will be the back/base ..so to avoid all that painful laborious cutting and filing afterwards....keep your " setting" edges SHARP ....! Super video ....Keep it up ....you're a natural !!!!!

      Well thank you dear Adele for your advice !! i will share that with my viewers too. From now one I will clean them more thoroughly EACH time and pay attention to the edges. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Yes I tend to overfill them too. You are so lucky to have so many molds !!!! I should do more as well it is so economical and you can mold almost anything right ? And what I like in making my own molds is that to one has the same !!
      Thank you so much for your participation. Have a great weekend !

      hahaha !! Well I try to be real and honest. I still don't succeed all the time and it does drive me crazy sometimes. But, 95% of the time I have so much fun ! And to be totally honest I think now I prefer UV resin (for smaller pieces) because it cures very very fast !! I also have videos on UV resin if you wish. The most important is to ENJOY !! Take care Tiffany and thank you !

    If difficult to remove from the silicone mold, grip the finished product with a vice like tool (pliers) and peel off the mold. Great job, your finished pieces are lovely. Sand edges with sand paper.

    Your so funny, I smiled so many times thu out your videos. I’m a beginner resiner and only attempted 3 small pendant pieces not using moods but I raided my bro in laws tool box n found some metal washers, brassy round things and some picture hooks etc. I used some as bezels and just had a muck around with them really. Placed a tiny metal mesh square in one, a few sparkly beads and a real freshwater pearl in the other, they turned out not bad considering. The last one I used an old very thin wire type bangle but being only 1 to 2 mm thick it didn’t make for a good bezel it’s seeped over edge and under edge in places and is very thin.i put a sprinkle of white sand in that one plus a lil teeny key charm plus 2 pearl beads n tiny blue beads and shaved a bit of glitter eyeshadow in it (old eyeshadow pallet I had kept for artsy stuff). That one I’m not fussed on it’s soooo thin, but next time I have another resin try I could place strong cello tape around bangle sticking up a cm or so higher and drizzle a fine layer of resin on top. I’ve seen a video of people using tape around stuff like a wooden block then filling the extended cello tape area with resin...when dried you peel or remove the tape and the object is half wood at base then resin on other end, sooooo awesome. Sorry I’m waffling...lol
    I loved your pyramid with goldy beads and was amazed the red flowers worked out so well. Great video n lots of happiness from watching it. Lisa , Perth W.Australia. If u have fb messenger I could chat n show my beginners stuff x

    The unmolding section is preventable with some cooking spray prior to use of mold.

    You might have to use a knife and cut out the one in the black mould, and overfilling was definitely your problem it seemed. If you fill over the edge, you'll find that happens. (I have friends who work with epoxy, they sell silicone moulds and own a glitter company.)
    But, lovely pieces. A box cutter might help with the odd edges, or even sanding them down would work well.
    Also, I've watched a lot of videos by another UA-camr and he uses a long lighter to pop the bubbles that I see in your pieces. The small cube with beads can be sanded and you can add a very thin layer of resin to get it to "dome," or as I see it, soften the top edges. They also use a craft stick to release the suction between the resin and the mould when he's demolding his cubes. (Sorry I watch a LOT of videos!)
    Overall, I love how your pieces are turning out!

    Hey I'm considering using resin to make some crafts like door handles, I've never used resin before, it seems to be cheap on eBay. Is the eBay stuff any good? Thanks x

      I know that a lot of people buy there resin on Ebay and are pleased with it; I think it depends the brands. I can only talk about the one that I have tried not the others. Maybe try a small amount first to give it a shot and if you are happy with it buy a bigger quantity. Let me know.

    The mould you couldn't get the piece out, I have several of those too. I did find it very difficult to get it out (I overfilled it too, oops, but not too much) but after a bit of effort, I did get it out. It's meant for cement craft rather than resin, and I knew that. I just wanted to try it out. I have better moulds now but still learning...

    • @StylHarmony
      @StylHarmony  4 роки тому +1

      You are absolutely right !! It was for cement not for resin and I didn't know at that time. Know I have invested in silicon molds only and they are perfect. Thank you for sharing your experience KME ! I'm still learning too, that's what is great about it !! There are so many possibilities !! Thanks for stopping by !!

      Yes always. It is a 2 parts epoxy resin. If you don't it will never cure (harden).

    Try squirting a little bit of alcohol around the inside edges and your resin mold will pop right out.

    Use baby oil to get pieces out of molds. Pour baby oil on top and let it soak down it should come out easier

    Try using powdered pigment do it’s not so bubbly on the back instead of water colors

    • @StylHarmony
      @StylHarmony  5 років тому

      These are not water colors because they don't work with resin. These are inks that do match with resin. But yes you are right powders can work too. To avoid bubbles the best way is to let the resin set a bit before pouring and also use the a lighter witch works like a charm. I have learn that since. Thanks for your participation

    Does it work if you pour resin into a tupper?

    • @StylHarmony
      @StylHarmony  3 роки тому +1

      I would think so but never tried. Do a little test before so you don't rune you entire piece. Normally it should not adhere to plastic but there are so may different plastics out there that I would make a test first.

    • @StylHarmony
      @StylHarmony  4 роки тому

      Well it depends from one brad to another. I usually unmold after 12 hours with mine. You can check out this video where I give the name and more information, if you wish . Some others take like 24 hours to cure. I can't really wait and it is hard enough.
