mugiwaraboshi37 It's even funnier in the manga. After Griffith says the line "I want you." guts replies with a really concerned face along with the line "Are you homo?" While Griffith just looks at him.
GashPlague To be fair, Guts was unwillingly pimped at like the age of 8-9 by Gambino to one of his soldiers, while Griffith did it willingly as a gold digger for his own ends as an adult. Which is why Guts hates being touched by nearly everyone.
I like how when Guts and Griffith later fight again in the snow you can see how each drastically changed the other over time. Guts became softer, more sociable and less reluctant to fight and Griffith became more eager to fight and prove something. He was more like Guts was at the start. That's fantastic character development.
If I were Guts, I would’ve hacked that Silver-haired bastard’s head off, for there was ALWAYS something so otherworldly eerie about him. The last episodes with his demonic charm confirmed that….

Welp, lets see it: Two men, clashing swords, one big, thicc and heavy, while the other is a small, thin and light. Guts inner monologuing about Giffs being really good, Griff saying that they can stop whatever the time Guts wants it, Griffs jumping on Guts sword, Guts saying that is only one way to use your mouth in a battle, Griff saying that he is enjoying the battle and finally, Guts hitting Griffs in the face, stating that he probably "never got one that hard on his face before" (Guts may not said this here but he says in the manga). So yeah, no homo. And by "no homo", I mean "extra-galactic-homo"

The animators missed a symbolic opportunity. If Griffith had dislocated Guts' left arm instead, it could have foreshadowed the loss of his left arm in the future.
This has to be one of my absolute favorite anime series... that said, it's a shame that it wasn't taken further in the plot that the manga depicted. The audiences at the time of the shows release "weren't ready" for the gore and brutality and sexually explicit themes of the continued actual story line. I've wished for a reboot of the anime that lasted the entire story arc, sadly, all I got was those three movies to reiterate the anime series in poor 3D hybrid animation. Cory Latimore Really? Because I went on some sites and it was actually somebody different. "Kevin T. Collins". I was just saying though, at FIRST, I thought it was Yuri but it wasn't apparently.
Right at 3:31 it really does seem as if Guts is a demon. Then when you look at the sheath he used for his sword, when it's unbuckled it reminded me of a demon's tail. I wonder if there is a bit of symbolism there.
The big thing about this fight is how much things changed 3 years from this fight when Guts and Griffith's dual was over in seconds and Guts won. (1) Guts bulked up with like 50 lbs of pure muscle, (2) He trained a lot harder than Griffith, and more importantly (3) He was 100% healthy when they fought three years later as compared to this fight. This begs the question to me if Guts would have beaten Griffith if he was 100% healthy for this fight.
@@emilylowe5565 I was referring to Guts. Because he was shot in the arm by an arrow earlier (reason for bandage on his right arm) and he was also slashed by Griffith earlier I believe around his upper back/neck area.
@@shannysalcedo5327 Yeah that's not unfair because Guts fighting technique was pretty raw when the first fight occurred and improving it through numerous battles that he gained a lot of confidence/experience from (beating Zodd in his non-apostle form, beating General Boscone, and of course when he defeated 100 men in one night).
I think guts could even win in this fight the moment he could beat on Griffith he should not have backed away to taunt griffith instead he could have continued to beat up Griffith. Guts never fought like this after this instead he fought with all until Victory or death.
I really like the strenght difference and the implied metaphor of that fact, along the other themes thrown around from the time of their 2nd duel. Because I feel the viewer is meant to compare this fight and the 2nd but not the in the classic "they are going at it again" but rather the life journey of both characters.
The only thing I hated about the Band Of The Hawks is how they treated Guts at the start. Like they attacked Guts first for no reason and then they're pissed at him when he kills some of their men in self defense and treat him like shit at the start? Come on now lol. I did something similar once when practicing with my friend. We had bamboo swords and he knocked me down with a shove and put the sword right to my face telling me to surrender. But I bit down on the sword and he was so stunned that when I yanked my head his sword flew right out of his hands and I beat him with my own sword.
You were already beaten when he put that sword on your face though. He told you to surrender because if that had been a real sword and he had the intent to hurt, you would be dead. The blade reaching your face and him pausing to tell you to admit defeat means he stopped himself from striking your eyes or throat. You only had a chance to bite the sword and turn the tables because he gave you one.
It's kinda weird that at first Griffith sees Guts, Casca and the Hawks as possessions to be won, especially Guts, but in the end after working so hard to obtain them he's willing to throw them away to become Femto and win his Kingdom. The irony in it is after he is able to come back to the material world he basically replaces the entire Band of the Hawk with Apostles and humans that are similar if not exactly the same as the original members, minus Casca and Guts of course, because they managed to escape the Eclipse.
Griffith: decent-goodish starting stats, unimpresive - shit growth. Guts: low-average starting stats, crazy growths. That or he just plain gobbled more XP because he did so much of the heavy lifting for the Hawks, whereas Griffith took the credit and lead from behind comparatively speaking. It's not like he never raised his hand in violence, but Guts did some CRAZY shit, and more than once, whereas Griffith only occasionally did. Look at how insane Guts is the next time they have this fight. It isn't even really a contest that time. He breaks the guys fucking arm when he PULLS the blow to avoid cutting him in half. And then just walks away like it was nothing. Which for him at that point, it was. He wasn't even breaking a sweat. And that really shook Griffith. It's probably why he so completely shit the bed and ruined everything by dragging off for that stupid pity sex and getting caught like a schmuck afterwords without even trying to get away.
one of my favorite fights in this series the comparison between this fight and the one when guts leaves the hawks is truly epic, seems guts continues to grow stronger where as griffith stays the same.
Gut's is not a "typical badass you can find at any market" He is equally as complex and as deep as Griffith's character, it could be argued that he is more even. However, Guts and Griffith are pretty much the same people, they have some trivial differences but when it comes down to it they are almost the exact same. Femto didn't let Guts and Caska live though, the SK just got them out of there.
Which is quite sad. He’s a villain, and I want to see him get his comeuppance badly; but I also love him as a character. He’s one of my favorite villains really.
It’s interesting that he’s not offended when he’s touched by Griffith, given his general disdain for being touched in the first place. Kind of a strange little scene

nizvkfb7vs bvrsct well remember when guts wanted to leave because Griffith said that he finds no one on his team a friend or an equal to him then what happened guts could've left with out fighting but who told Griffith.....Casca
Casca got between their relationship.DAMN!!!
Wow this is exactly like that scene in the ballad of Ricky bobby. Where they have a standoff in the bar
Guts did definitely change the most alright but the fact that Griffith became more comfortable with Guts shows that he had some effect on him.
