Hi Baz, I have been waiting for this review. I think for once I agree with you about the abalone. I love abalone myself, think that's a girly thing but I think if they had just left the abalone around the soundhole and not put it around the rest of the top of the instrument as well, I think that would've looked much classier. I would be curious to hear what these instruments would sound like with a low G. Bit too crisp for my liking if I am honest, but stunning instrument of course. I am not usually into sunbursts either but that is stunning! Thanks for the review Baz!
I get what you are saying about the abalone, probably a little loud for your loungeroom but for the gigging musician this would look very special on stage. Great review as always.
Oh my, probably the nicest sounding Uke I have heard played through my headset. Love the rear facing tuners as it doesn’t distract from the headstock. I don’t mind the bling, although could be thinner. Someone is going to be pleased when they purchase this one. Thanks again for a great review of a great instrument. Got to also say thanks to the specialist shops and owners for sending them as well. Wow!
Beautiful looking and sounding. Even the case looks great! True, the price is probably too steep for most folks, but I do think it is worth every penny! Thanks, Baz!
Stunning Ukulele Baz I had to watch this twice once without sound just to admire it 😂 I spoke to Matt at world of Uke and I have ordered a Baton Rouge baritone on his recommendation being ideal as a first ukulele. Another great video 👏
Ok, I really like the Moonbird, infact SUS happens to have a Moonbird in Cedar which really peaked my interest.... NOW after seeing this video I just don't know.....all I can say is WOW. I actually dig the Abalone binding I think it really makes the sunburst stand out.
Hi BAZ, Always love your informative reviews on ukuleles! Brilliant! Thanks my good friend! Have a wonderful and better New Year 2024! Best Wishes, Ron 😎👍🌴🥥❤️🙏
Sounds fab! Your facial expressions say it all really. It's great to see (and not just hear) how much the sound impressed you. Hope you got the chance to enjoy it with the camera off.
I totally agree with you on this one. I love it! The sound is unreal.. I will never be a good enough player to do this instrument justice. If I had the money I’d buy it anyway! Nice review of a beautiful instrument… thanks Barry……….DOC.
Fantastic uke! I knocked it down from stupendous for the abalone😂 Kidding aside, that uke's voice will leave a lasting impression.👍👍 It's fun seeing you excited about an instrument.
Wow this sounds amazing and I love your enthusiasm for it! If it’s too good for your playing I’ll perhaps give myself a few more years before I warrant this upgrade haha!!😆🤦🏻♀️
Looks great, sounds great and the price is decent especially since they include the hard case. Probably too much abalone but not a deal killer with that tone. Great review!
Absolutely beautiful! I would definitely get one if my budget allowed. Thank you for sharing. It's nice to hear and see all possibilities. ❔I do have a novice question. This Singer has a strong percussive kick when you strum it (to my ears). I have a tenor (laminate Leolani ebony) which has that same strong percussive sound when strummed (again, to my ears). It's like having 2 instruments in one. What makes that sound? Is it the body? Is this common with tenor ukuleles? I've heard other tenors, but not as strong. I only have one tenor, so I am not sure. With my soprano and concert ukuleles, I hear more of a jangle. With my tenor, I hear more of a boom, (when strummed) and I don't just mean volume. 🥁🤔
Sweet sounding instrument. I’m normally not a fan of bursts (a bit of an understatement) but this one is pretty. I could live with an abalone rosette but the body binding is a bit much. The headstock reminds me of the Collings “haircut” headstock. I love me a Collings.
Looks and sounds amazing. If I would ever drop that much money for a uke it would probably be a K-brand though but that is just because of the personal thrill of it being a K-brand, I'm sure this is worth the money. Great uke and great review - Blimey indeed.
I agree with @mike Bracewell I love everything about it even the abelone, though the price is rather high 😱😭 I have a confession to make Baz, I dont normally listen to all the demo of playing, however on this occasion I was transfixed.I've tried blackwater strings on the flea I bought from you but I want keen, however on this the sustain and tone is amazing.❤️❤️😘💕😍
I've used them before on an Eastman I had - but this is off the page - that top is SO lightly braced it sings even if you just shout into the sound hole!
i have watched a few of your reviews. i wanted to know how ukes are put together so out of curiosity and being a model making fan i bought myself a cheap kit. it cost me £17.50. nothing to pay really as an education and a hobby. it sounds crap and quirky but i love it for that reason. am i strange?🤣🤣
nah - they are very popular. If I had more time (struggle to get the review videos done each week as it is) I had thought about documenting a build and reviewing one.
Looks and sounds superb. My only concern is the super thin top and bracings.... my moonbird top, also very thin, has deformed a bit around the bridge area after 5 years (I use the relatively high-tension worth browns, but still it's faster than I expected 🤔)
I discussed dipping tops with a couple of luthiers - so long as they hold and don't get worse, it's actually a good sign - means a thin top. Most old vintage Martins will display the same. I've seen several Ken Timms that do too
@@SmallUkeBigWorld The important thing to monitor is that it stabilises and stops. If it keeps going you have an issue, but they usually do hold at an equilibrium
There's 4 of these singer models could take or leave the sea shells this is the only model with them they were going for the vintage thing your right ebony saddle ,finger board and overlayed head stock I think compared to entry level Hawaiian made a good value considering the upgrades and sound you get good review hope you get to try other models this one was the most expensive
They make a mahogany singer that theukesite raves about. It's 900 dollars sounds like the best deal out there right now. I just ordered a moon bird from them, I should be getting it in a week or two.
@@GotAUkulele It was the favorite of the singer line for some at the theukesite. They put them in a video gone in a few days. It's the tobacco sunburst mahogany. I thing it's going to be pretty popular sounds great for 900 USD.
@@GotAUkulele for sure. I'd like the abalone to be ebony though. Like a sharper look but that is a very picky complaint. I'll have to peep the pics in the review tomorrow because the inverted thing you said intrigues me
I think that, if I had the money, the presence (or absence) of the abalone wouldn't bother me. Mind you, it would be well-looked-after and only brought out for special events and joyful home playing. Cloud cuckoo land with that price, I'm afraid, though - my budget is right down at the other end, and each time I still have to follow the one-in, one-out policy which my wife instated last year (at the seven-instrument point, but which I managed to usurp once with getting the iUke because it was so small, and then again with the kazoo...)
A beautiful instrument.. If I could justify that money to myself (and the wife😂) it would have to be for an authentic Hawaiian brand, built by with some crazy curly Koa. It’s a lot of money for a Chinese made instrument. I appreciate I’m going to get roasted here 🔥🔥🔥
I don't agree - I think the 'Hawaii has to cost more' point is a myth. OK China is still a cheaper place to buy but - that is rapidly changing and they are entitled to a cost of living uplift too. To add to that - an equivalent uke like this would not be a K brand I don't think (or at least not a stock entry level K brand) - would be more like the deluxes and specials. They cost quite a bit more than £1,700 Take your point though and own a K myself - I just think the price differences are getting much closer
@@GotAUkulele I’m definitely in support for better wages in China. I used to be an importer and money aside the work conditions ‘can be’.. well.. not what you’d want for yourself. I didn’t make my point well :) what I meant was I have a Flight Carabao with a MISI pickup. Im adding on some decent strings to taste, through a LR Baggs DI through the hall of fame reverb, out of my Fishman loudbox. I can really shape the tone of the Uke to sound ‘high end’. Maybe a Moonbird would sound 20/30% better (I don’t know) but for the justification of the money (and it’s a lot). I would want something with more of an artistic collectors item feel. i just think at that price point it stops being about the sound and more about who made it and what it’s made from ie. Premium /Master Grade Curly Koa.

I'm in the no abalone camp, it looks like one thing to many IMO, but otherwise a great uke. I'm excited to see future offerings from this brand.

Gorgeous. Agree with you about the abalone. Some nice, curly maple binding and some thin wood purfling would be perfect
I think so too! I was looking at my sunburst J45 after this - cream edging - works a treat and doesn't take over from the burst.
It really does sing! And Baz, I also do come for the playing. Your sheer exuberance for a fine instrument is the justice. ✌🏼
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you Steve!
There is exactly the right amount of asymmetry in that headstock. The Anuenues are just that bit too weird for me, but this is perfect. Sheer class!
If they do a soprano, I'm in trouble...
Very very simple the anuenue's =- and i've said before I think their logo is like a logo I expect to see on a childs toy!

Sounds really great with that high-G. Being a low-G player, I wonder how it would sound with it...? Thanks again for a great review, Baz!
More bass for sure - but then I think the balance is just right as it is - would be afraid it would lose something
Wow! What a great sound! I’m not anti-abalone, but would have preferred it to be black binding…not a fan of cream binding. An awesome sounding ukulele
Fair enough - I only suggested cream as it's what Gibson use on the J45 guitar and it works well - but either way - not the abalone for me!
