What a nasty smirk that woman has. I can't say this strongly enough. CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE A FUNCTION OF *TEAMS,* not individuals. A great individual in a mediocre team is probably not going to make it, while a great team without a stand-out individual probably is going to make it. This is an American weirdness. Over here in the UK no-one says of a great footballer 'Yeah, he's pretty good, but his team never won the FA Cup' or '...the League Championship.' Harry Kane is England's top striker at this time (both as in: plays for England, and as in: amongst all strikers in England) but the team he used to play for until this season, Tottenham Hotspur, has not won a title in that time. Nobody gives a stuff, and certainly no-one would mention that, in giving an assessment of Kane's talents and value as a player. When evaluating a cricket player - same thing; it is the individual who is being assessed so if he's always played for a county that's not won any titles, nobody cares. Same with rugby, again; the value of a player is assessed without reference to their teams' trophy cabinet. The fact of Taurasi playing on a college team which won 3 championships, and her obvious smugness about that in regard to CC22 being player of the year, top scorer, and top in assists, for three straight seasons, is also EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL TO HER COLLEGE TEAMMATES, because it implies that their contribution to those championships was negligible, and that her presence in the team was what made the difference between their results and Iowa's results in the last 2 seasons. At first, as with Angel Reese, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but the longer time goes on the more she opens her mouth the more I hold her in low regard. If a great sportsman in this country was asked to comment on the advent of a fantastic newcomer, if he or she behaved the way people like Taurasi and Parker and Swoopes behaved, it would be almost a national scandal. What that person would be expected to do and would do is to say 'It's great. He's a fantastic player, very good with his head, can shoot with either foot... I think the national team is really gonna benefit from having him.'
DT was on a stacked team in college that always got the best recruits, they probably would have won the title without her. Caitlin's stats were better in college and in the WNBA than Taurasi's in her rookie year.
Funny cause CC is on pace to surpass Turasi in all rookie stats (PPG, REB, AST, STL, BLK, FG%, 3PT%, FT%) except turnovers which CC is currently sitting 5.4 TO per game to Turasi 2.6 TO per game. Yeah, Turasi was so much better cause she won chips in college on a loaded team 🙄
I wonder if taurasi knows that college success doesn't automatically equate to pro level success. Larry Bird didn't win a college championship either, yet he retired with 3 nba championship rings. Conversely, Patrick Ewing won a title in college, yet he never won an nba title.
You not this dumb to make a comment like that. Her success translated but that’s not everybody. Nobody was expecting Diana to be the GOAT because she played on stacked teams yet it happened. You non competitors talk too much. I’m sure you talk to CC she’d tell you she would rather the championships than the individual records.
she didn't have 3 championships, that's a team thing. What CC did have got her Nike, Wilson, Statefarm, Gatorade etc. deals for her records and the way she presents herself. CC has 3 gold metals from FIBA under 16 (1) and under 19 (2) both times as MVP. You can't control others, but you can control how you respond, she's responding with class.

Robin ... teams win championships, not individual players. To say that DT won a championship is incorrect. DT was part of a team that won a championship. DT could have played mediocre, and her teammates could've had been the main contributors to the win that day. On the converse, CC could've had a stellar game, while her teammates were mediocre. "after I won" she makes it sound like she did it all by herself. Not only was she on a team (albeit a significant part of that team) but is seems like Geno and Uconn might have had something to do with it. They did win 8 other championships before and after her time there.
Yeah, this attitude of her winning championships (implication: "but Caitlin Clark hasn't!", smug grin) is loathesome. It implies that her team mates were just cannon fodder, there to help her do the winning.
DT is petty and no one will remember her - that is just a fundamental fact. They can win the gold and they will not even be a footnote in history. They are already dust in the wind.
Robin .... You're right ....people like me and you maybe shouldn't bring up the fact that CATLIN doesn't have a championship. But her opponents have every damn right to do it and they can do it as long as they want .
They would be on the same team in the Olympics, not opponents but Taurasi (and you) don't seem to get that. This was a team U.S.A. Olympics selection question.
Taurasi says being in the USA Olympic team is “special”. It is so true with her that Taurasi does not give it up like a greedy kid despite her being already a dinosaur.
New Zealand was looking forward to watching CC in the Olympics, and now they are disappointed she won’t be there (and probably won’t watch now). Let that sink in. The MISSED opportunities, for the WNBA, to inspire young women around the WORLD, and expand the sport, is HUGE.
We can have a nice conversation about Caitlin Clarke, but to say "Jordan fans are a little threatened by LeBron". No way in the world! Have you seen the Jordan rules and how much tougher it was. Anyhow, I digress, these girls are jealous and the way they act is gross. Imagine if you had a little girl looking up to one of these girls. But Caitlin Clarke actually carrys herself well, that just creates more anger/animosity towards Caitlin.
It was tougher because there was no flagrant foul rules and the Detroit Pistons abused that. After many complaints, some even from MJ, they introduced flagrant foul rules and rightfully so, if I want to watch wrestling or MMA I tune into a different sport, not basketball. It was also not that much more difficult. While hand checking was more prominent, illegal defence was also a thing, leaving many defenders stranded in 1v1s without hope of getting help. It was a common tactic to drag all players to one side to get the other side wide open for some boring 1v1 action.
One thing that I have noticed since I started paying attention to this league and hearing former UConn players commenting is that they are incredibly arrogant with an air of entitlement. They are from a time when Nike owned college coaches and told recruits which college they would attend. George Raveling ran the program for the men, I don’t know about the women’s program.
Anybody who knows anything about sports in America knows that the Olympic committee has taken some really big heat rounds about their not including Caitlin Clark on this team. Major heat rounds. I mean, NBC is desperate for ratings---and Caitlin Clark produces huge ratings. Conversely, her absence also infuriates the same viewers that NBC wants so badly. So, they are not at all happy with the Olympic committee. And I have a feeling that they let them know about it. Then there is Nike which is one of the biggest sponsors in all of sports. They just paid $28 million for Caitlin Clark's brand. And you can bet they aren't happy with her being left off the team due to petty jealousy and or racial/sexist animosity. No way are they happy. And I'm sure they let the Olympic committee members know about their feelings as well. Big time. That said, it isn't surprising that the Olympic committee recently took great pains to let everyone know that she was on the alternate list. There's a big reason for this as, I am willing to bet, they have every intention of finding a way to *suddenly* issue her a surprise invitation at the last minute. Hidden agenda or not, their jobs and reputation are on the line. In short, Caitlin Clark may have been snubbed for now---but she will eventually end up on the team in spite of the hatred and jealousy directed at her. Wait and see.
Yeah right, CC would have won as many titles or more than her by going to another program...lets switch then two. DT goes to the IOWA team CC played for, same time frame, everything. CC goes back and plays at UCONN in the same team DT played her college career with , for sure CC would have won championships, and broken records too, and she would be as popular as she is , the W would have not struggle this long for food. DT would have won nothing, would be another good player, most likely would have transferred after playing the first season...a lot of players in team sports have won several medals and were in the bench their whole careers. Rings in team sports are important but do not define the best player individually, CC is the best player to ever play the game, is the most recognized, and loved, and that is whats keeping her from making this team...all other saying are just justifications...which are just like a but whole...everybody has one when does not have what it takes to call it like it is....
Taurasi’s off-brand Regina George impression got old long ago. And the obsession of UCONN alums with national championships as the only real measure of greatness is getting odder every year. Even with their pedigree they haven’t brought home the championship since 2016 and have only managed to get to the championship game once since then. If Taurasi had just talked about the rookie learning curve with a hint of empathy instead of going her usual abrasive route then fairly few people would’ve taken serious issue with it. But I guess the attention her “reality is coming” remark got was at least partly the point for her. Taurasi’s whole vibe is giving insecurity from a player who has to know this will be her last hurrah on the Olympic court.

Then of course there is the fact that CC is not just hugely popular domestically but has a sizeable following internationally. Adding her would have been good for promotion alone. Oh and the committee did not say that CC was not chosen for lack of ability. They said that they were "concerned" about her fans. So what exactly is your point? EASY....SUPER EASY....to win on a stacked team. Just ask Golden State Kevin Durant...I literally respect Allen Iverson A LOT more for taking a mediocre, below-average 76ers team to the Finals--albeit losing to the Lakers in 5--than I give to KD for winning 2 titles on a super-stacked Warriors team. The truly great ones do not take the easy road, or the easy way out. Caitlin may have lost 2 nattys in IOWA, but she beat all of the juggernauts on the way there, from LSU, to UCONN to SC. What SHE and that TEAM accomplished, may never be duplicated. But to say Caitlin has never won anything is farsical falsity from the haters, who are too lazy to do any research. Caitlni Clark has won THREE championships on the world stage. She won three gold medals & trophies represneting TEAM USA at FIBA WORLD CUPS. She even won MVP of the entire tournament in 2021. I usually enjoy Diana's cockiness but that comment felt kind of cheap, especially towards a rookie that's already facing enormous scrutiny. Also happy for the athletes that will be making the team and hope they live it up in Paris.
The last I saw Catlin's stats are better than diana's. So who should really be going?

Comparing DT and CC based on championship win... is garbage.

The team she was on won 3 championships. I will not watch her no matter where she plays

They would be on the same team in the Olympics, not opponents but Taurasi (and you) don't seem to get that. This was a team U.S.A. Olympics selection question.
And they will!

Yeah, how can Jordan fans be threatened by Lebron when they know they're right?
@@Copterman Jordan had the most viewed final series in NBA history not Lebron so theres nothing to hate on
It was tougher because there was no flagrant foul rules and the Detroit Pistons abused that.
I think you just proved the point
@@TheRobinLundberg dude a great case can be made for Lebron being #1. I ain’t a hater. Jordan just reigns supreme. All good!
Every time CC has a bad game, it's magnified by the media. Too much expectations for a new player.
You did not win, your team did,,best in the college geez ok granny😢
Let her rest she needs to refuse to play this year even if they ask
I agree
She is 22 not 42. Even if she needs rest, she does not needs weeks of it.
Taurasi’s whole vibe is giving insecurity from a player who has to know this will be her last hurrah on the Olympic court.
where are Nike NBC and the other sponsors, they will lose business with this decision.

But the usa committee wants GOLD not cc😂
@@darealsassy1871 Team USA has won gold every single time for the past 3 decades. Furthermore, CC is either as good or better than some players on that team and has played more games than Gray and Griner this season. To top it all of with the hypocrisy, DT was ironically chosen herself to come to the Olympics in 2004 as a rookie.
Since you know, you actually have none.

Get your facts straight.
and yet they also use the "she'll get beat up against international competition" narrative. Not only does she have international experience, but if they were so tough how have we won 8 straight Olympic golds. I don't think bringing on one rookie to develop for the future is going to fold the team to these grown ass tough Intenational women.
@@Vadeemers Yeah, its just one excuse after another. No matter what they say, this was one of the dumbest business decisions ever in the history of sports. probably a big part of the reason she is so petty. I didn't realize until today that she played high school ball near where I lived at the time she was in high school and I never heard of her but I did hear of the Balls (also from that area).
Also she said veterans helped her a lot. That must be nice.
The UConn coach said CC is targeted by WNBA players and later said it's because of her "delusional fans." That doesn't make it ok. I can only guess what's going on behind the scenes. The WNBA is rough but I think the no calls against CC go beyond that.
I wouldn't even want to play with Diana Taurasi if I was CC
