Hey guys, this was an exciting video to film, I've wanted to examine a Ferguson for years! Every time I've gotten close I've never quite been able to get hands on. But I finally got a chance recently and I've put together this special episode looking at it. It's by far the longest video I've ever put together but I wanted to put something comprehensive together. I hope you enjoy this look at the Ferguson as much as I enjoyed looking at it. I've been ill with a cold/sore throat recently, so if I sound croaky you know why! I wrote an in-depth 5,000 word article to accompany the video, it also includes more photos. Check out that out here: armourersbench.com/2018/10/15/the-ferguson-rifle/
As always thank you for watching! - Matt

Interesting to see the groove at the base of the screw.. I have built a TRS Ferguson.. it is quite reliable, however it does leak gas from below the plug. I have done some work to reduce the gap in an effort to reduce the leakage..
I am also having some difficulty in getting accuracy from the .615 balls and am presently trying .648 bullets, however COVID has been getting in the way of shooting this year...

Tell me about it, haven't been to the range in months. That's really interesting, let us know how you get on the with 648s.

@@TheArmourersBench Will do! Hopefully we should be back next month with a bit of luck! They have a Durs Egg Ferguson in Edinburgh Castle.. it is a civilian one with the fixed rear sight and wide chequering at the wrist. I heard a rumour there may be another one in the Museum of Scotland, and will try to track this down once the dreaded bug (..and Nicola) lets us back out!

@@felixthecat265 Haha, they'll be hunting you down for that! No this is another, it's in an MoD reference collection. Recently had some stock restoration. I saw those on display when I visited a couple of years ago! Worth the entry ticket alone.

@@TheArmourersBench Ah.. ok either an "establishment on the Plain" or "Watchfield Poly" then.. :)! I thought the former had either sold or had nicked most of its collection! I keep thinking I want to reproduce one of the Scottish Snaphaunces in the Museum of Scotland.. maybe someday!

Another superb and fascinating video, my continued thanks.
What a crying shame he didn't take the shot/s at the two men that day. Had Washington been dealt, if it was indeed him, how things might have been superbly different.

I would love to see you cover the 1776 pattern jaeger rifle that grice and others made :-)

No I haven't yet but it's absolutely on my list to take a look at along with the Brunswick. I've done videos on a few other early breechloaders but this one was special one to cover. Good luck with your build!

Redesigning with better hard and strong wood, are this process can help reduce disadvantage (tge tradeoff is lightweight)

So cool. Such a pity Ferguson was killed in action.

Rumor has it that he swore "God Himself won't drive me off this mountain!". After he was killed, he was buried where he fell, and lies there still.
