Team Trucker with my wife for 25 years and counting. As a 18 year old working 110 miles South of Galveston on a rig I rode in boats or helicopters to the rigs. These 2 are reminding me of us running the semi from Indianapolis to the west coast every week. Keep it up guys you are a very tight team. Love the videos.

Back in he late 80's a retired navy guy bought a $200K 32' NEW sailboat from where I worked. No GPS then only paper charts, parralel rules, compass, etc.He knew NOTHING abt. sailing. He was supposed to LEAVE, but every morning something would be broken that we'd have to fix. Like the compass light... he must've unhooked it at night so we'd have to fix it the next day. We had a 100 pt. check list on all new boats so EVERYTHING was working when he stepped foot on. After a week of delays (fixing things he'd sabotage at night) he finally left, after his wife & kids drove back home (they were supposed to sail with him). He left not with paper charts, but with a TEXACO ROAD MAP. He hit 2 RRoad brigde bulk heads & ran onto rocks... was towed into a marina 12 mile away & hauled out as the boat was sinking.
    TRUE STORY!

SAR procedures for assisting a vessel in distress are: fire off a flare in the vicinity of the vessel in distress. Four short blast on the air horn, repeat a minute later. Make a radio distress call with location, Lat Long. Just because you can't hear them doesn't mean they can't hear you. Then go help.

I hope you have more fun and less emergency experiences in 2024, but it's probably overall good for you to have had these early in your cruising career. It really depends on the policy that you are looking for and where you want to keep the boat during hurricane season. We wanted more time in the Bahamas last year and well as you know we got that but we had to take a policy that had the high deductible. So it kinda goes hand in hand.

with modern technology today and a little thing on the chart plotter called an anchor alarm there is no excuse for dragging anchor and running aground. Back in my day we sailed with paper charts because GPS navionics were too expensive for the average sailor. Our inshore navigation was LoranC. If I ever get to do it over again I'm going to be spoiled with modern navionics and push button sailing.

I’ve just bought a Fisher 25 with my Wife in the 🇬🇧. & etting ready for the summer. I’ve seen some of you work & love this video. Maybe time for a binge watching on a miserable day. These anchor dragging problems should have never have happened. The sailor wanna-bees should have put out TWO anchors in a "V" pattern from the bow with proper scope (7:1; 7 feet or rode for every 1 foot of depth) when anchoring in a harbor, especially overnite. This can be accomplished in close mooring quarters also. Also, be familiar with what's around you if you do drag and ANTICIPATE. That's the whole secret of safely sailing: Anticipate.

Great TV drama moments, like the big concern for the guy sinking on his mooring due to a through-hull. He had two choices: plug it somehow, or get in his dinghy and go to shore. What's a MayDay going to achieve? Is the Coast Guard going to fix your through-hull for you?

We only did it for a year. We were going to wait for retirement but thank the Lord we didn't as it would never have happened so I hope people listen to your advice and do it while you can. I rode out hurricane 🌀 Ian on our boat at Fort Myers Beach. We were on a mooring that broke. Thankfully our boat being a steel monohull made it through with minor issues. I was devastated the next morning to wake up to what looked like a bombing site. Pirates in Paradise are still living the dream!

I don't understand what you mean by "pirates in paradise" but I'm so glad you and your boat were able to make it out safely. We were very scared it was coming to us in Sarasota and felt very guilty afterwards that we made it out unscathed. We drove down the next day to help a friend who was in the same mooring field as you. It was absolutely heartbreaking to see the devastation of everything.

When you are in your dinghy attempting to rescue, similarly the other boats, perhaps you should anchor up wind, and let yourself back to the boat in distress. So you are not relying on your motor which could easily get swamped, or hit bottom. Then pull in with their main anchor and set that.
(A SAR rescue craft will have a water jet, so not be at risk).

What would be cool is an "anchor pulley", an anchor with a pully on it. You drop the anchor way offshore with a line through the pulley, one end on the boat, another onshore than you can pull the boat from shore as the tide comes in (Ideally, don't know if this would actually work).

im with you there with a storm when your out at sea 2 years ago me and my wife was sailing from england to canary islands going via french coast on my westerly centaur 26 we had done this trip a number of times on this boat but we ended up in a storm that time and being in a 26ft boat in 10-15ft seas and winds upto 65mph i made my wife stay below and i stayed on deck with a lifeline on as had to get the sails down and try to motor 6 miles to safety just about making 1mph due to the wind and waves hitting the boat ended up taking 6hrs to get into a marina

Very educative video, thanks for sharing that. Rescues are the hardest thing to do safely and kuddos to you for not compromising your safety in either case. These guys that got the line in their propeller seemed to have no idea what they were doing.
One thing though, in the 50knot gust in that storm, it was unclear about the risks of the situation, the seas were calm, no sails up, not by shore...would be interested to hear more on that.

27 minutes of pure comedy 😆 Gets my vote for best parody skits of UA-camr sailing. I especially liked the high winds, mayday response, and beached sailboat bits. Also waking up other cruisers in the middle of the night for non-emergencies! Hilarious! 👏 😂👍

First video I've watched from you guys. I just got back from the Exumas yesterday. I really enjoyed the video. With much respect, the small product marketing ad at the bottom of the screen just took away from the authenticity I was feeling. I understand that this helps bring in extra cash to help fund the dream, but when it's on the screen while the video is playing, it takes attention away from your video and the story you're trying to tell. Maybe there's another creative way to market that product without having it on the screen while your video is playing. Great video. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Keep creating!
