      I tried to stay off the brakes as much as possible, and only brake before turns so I could be off the brakes when cornering for maximum traction. Coming to a stop at the end would have heated them up for sure though!

    Geez. Just watching you do turns at this speed with those bald road tires keeps me on edge. I am never going to do this. Also how destroyed were your brakes after this.

    • @PorterMTB
      @PorterMTB  5 років тому

      Brakes were all good, hydraulic road disc brakes make it way safer! These are Kenda's best road tires, and are wide for road bike tires too, so the traction was pretty good really. Still gotta be on your game though!

    • @all_the_hype4576
      @all_the_hype4576 5 років тому

      Oh alright. I’ve never ridden a road bike so I don’t know what the tires are like and all that. And from mountain bikes I know that when you bomb a hill your brakes get pretty heated up.

    I once hit 49mph coming down Monte Cristo (just a little North of Guardsmans pass). Started to get the high speed wobbles so I had to slow it down. Of course it was not a closed course so I had to worry about cars as well as wildlife.
    Ragnar relay calls that stretch of Guardsmans pass “puke hill”.

    • @PorterMTB
      @PorterMTB  5 років тому

      Yeah it can get scary quick at those speeds, speed wobbles sound terrifying! I'd say Ragnar did a good job with the naming, it's so steep for so long, although I haven't puked on it yet!

      Get the men's gravel bike from Huffy at Walmart.

    • @PorterMTB

      Start out with a hardtail, it's the most affordable way to get a decent bike, and it'll teach you how to ride smooth! Then when you get into it more you can upgrade to a full suspension!
