With small modification you could add one on top of the other to make a 24" high one and save your back. 😉

That’s a good idea. Probably could drill some holes and overlap them a little.

I bought 4 of the exact beds (on your advice) and raise everything from tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, squash, corn, peppers, onions, chives and the list goes on. I like the beds and will probably get more next year. I tried wood beds and like you say, a couple years and nature takes their toll.

I received a very nice 18 inch tall bed as a gift. I love it, and while I would have loved a few more, they were not in my budget. So I bought this bed. I have a little lightweight stool that i take out and sit on while planting. It works out very well for me and my back is happy. I bought a 2nd one that is put together and waiting for a break in the heat before I fill it.

Awesome video. I bought 8 Birdies beds and love them . They don't heat up in the Fl heat and they are aesthetically pleasing.
There are no sharp edges and they carry a rubber edging to place on the edge.
I bought mine before they were this expensive, but it was still a chunk to fork out.
Thanks again for the review , looking to hear more about your fall gardening .

I got 2 a few months ago. They were 4 x 12 for the same price. One came damaged and missing hardware. They sent a replacement right away. I was supposed to have help putting them together for my birthday, since I recently had knee replacement surgery. That was 2 months ago and I am still waiting! There's a big pile of brush where they are supposed to go and I can't haul it away by myself right now. Of course, some of the brush will be used to partially fill the beds.... we'll see if I can get a little help with them soon.

I have 4. LOVE THEM! I put them together myself in my living room because it was so hot back in May. I do wish they were taller. Love to see your grass is as tall as mine...lol. Darn we need rain here on the east coast of central FL. Dont know why my grass is still growing so fast.

I have a lot of big oak trees on my property. In the past my raised DID NOT do well. Then I found tree roots in my boxes. Made a bed with a bottom and that worked! I was trying to think of how to make a bottom for these, best I can do is to mix a bag of concrete thinly and pour it in wouldn't need to be more than an inch thick.

  • @oreopaksun2512
    @oreopaksun2512 Рік тому +3

That IS really cost-effective! $59 for the bed plus $30 to fill it? You can get payback with one season, without having to plant straight into the ground.
For people who are interested, but concerned about the sharp edges, there is something called "car door edge guard" that can be used to cap the top so no one would be cut. The product comes in rolls, easy to apply, and though removable, curious little fingers or noses will not be able to do it.
Thanks! I love how you just lay it all out there, no holds barred.

I forgot about the edge guard! I got a roll of it to use on the doors of the rabbit cages I'm planning to build. I don't want the grandkids getting cut on the rabbit cages so I ordered that to finish the door openings. That will work perfectly on the raised bed edges.

@@deborahallen2833 I didn't know it was a thing until my car door lost a battle with a feral shopping cart. When I looked shocked at the $200 quoted by the dealer for a bit of plastic trim, the service guy took pity on me and pointed me toward this magical stuff. If you just edge the corners, $10 will cover multiple beds; look good; no special tools needed. Hint: to get a good fit on the corners, get the edge cut to proper length, and let it sit in warm sun for several minutes before applying. Firmly push into corners with a thin but not sharp edge (like the back, not the blade of a pen knife).

Hi Petrina! Another great video. Really love your review videos. Could you also do a review of your rain barrel? I am on the lookout for one, but most I see have an open top (I worry about mosquitoes with an open top here in FL), but yours looks like the drainpipe goes into the barrel. Could you provide more info on your rainbarrel.

Great info -- thank you! I do have well water as the primary water source here in NE Florida. It's a deep well w/an aerator to reduce sulfur. Are you using well water to irrigate your beds? Did you solarize the area or remove lawn grass before you installed the beds?

Did you find that the grow bags got moldy? And if they did, does it affect the crops at all? I was thinking of picking up a few for temporary use for probably just this season.

    • @HomegrownFloridaZ9a

I didn’t get any mold in mine but it is possible. It shouldn’t impact the crops though. Make sure to let your plants dry out between watering and that should help.
