    Mark Donohue winning 10 of the 13 races in the trans am series, makes this 68 camaro and the other remaining 3 that exist, in my opinion the most significant trans am car of the whole series and thanks for letting us see and hear it.

      IN 1968 TRANS AM RACING WHEN CHEVY BEAT FORD. THE ONLY THING PRODUCTION ABOUT THE CAMARO WAS THE BOWTIE. THE CAR WAS ACID DIPPED AND WEIGHED IN AT 250LB LIGHTER THAN THE MINIMUM WEIGHT. ROGER PENSKE HAD 2 CARS. ONE THAT THEY WEIGHED IN TO FOLLOW TRACK REGULATIONS AND THE OTHER ACID DIPPED CAR THEY ACTUALLY RACED. This car here is probably the actual tech car that didn't race.THE SUSPENSION WAS ALL MCPHERSON STRUTS AND NOT PRODUCTION WHILE THE REST LIKE FORD, MOPAR, AMC USED STOCK PRODUCTION SET-UPS . THE NOSTALGIA CAR THAT RACE TODAY ARE NOT CORRECT THEY USE THE CONVENTIONAL SUSPENSION. THE ENGINE WAS NON PRODUCTION ALL ALUMINUM MOTOR BUILT BY TRACO. WHAT PENSKE DID TO BEAT FORD WAS DONE BY FREEZING THE GAS WITH DRY ICE WHICH ALLOWED THEM TO GET MORE FUEL INTO THE TANK (23 GALLONS INTO A 21 GALLON TANK). SO WHEN EVERYBODY ELSE WAS GOING IN TO REFUEL, THE CAMARO WAS ABLE TO STAY OUT AND GAIN LAP TIME ON A OPEN UNOBSTRUCTED TRACK AND WHEN THEY CAME IN TO REFUEL ONCE AGAIN THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF A UNOBSTRUCTED TRACK TO GAIN MORE LAP TIME.THIS IS HOW CHEVY BEAT FORD BY CHEATING. THERE IS A BOOK WRITTEN ON THE PENSKE SUNOCO CAMARO AND THEY NUMEROUS WAYS IT CHEATED. THIS IS WHY TRANS AM STARTED PUTTING PERMANENT STICKERS ON THE BODY IN SEVERAL PLACES AFTER IT WAS WEIGHED TO PREVENT CHEVY FROM CHEATING AND THIS IS WHEN THE PARTY WAS OVER FOR THE PENSKE CAMARO. LIKE I SAID BEFORE CHEVY HAS BEEN CHEATING THEIR WAY TO THE FINISH LINE FOR YEARS. THEY SAY 4 OF THE 6 REMAIN. THE 2 NONE REMAINING CAR WERE THE ACTUAL RACERS THAT WERE HEAVILY MODIFIED BASICALLY CHEATER CARS THAT IN NO WAY REFLECTED THE PRODUCTION ONES THAT REMAIN.

    Trans Am rulebook required stock suspension pickup points and stock geometry. You could replace suspension components for strength but they had to maintain stock geometry, except for lowering height. Basically, it was the art of balancing spring rates, anti-roll bar rates, shock compression and rebound settings, wheel alignment, tire compound, stagger, and tire pressure. 15 x8 wheel maximum.

    My grandfather Leroy Gane helped build this car, and many others he’s the man to the right that looks like he’s running at :41. He died just this morning. I love and miss him very much, and hope to build a car in his legacy.

    They were light cars and lots of motor..302 and hp..2 carbs..it equals lots of wins..rj..duntov.made that motor for vettes...it was a vette.motor to be put in a vette at 66 or 67 and they never did. and Pete Estes went to the back room at Gm and put the motor in the 67 camaro.
