Great job !!! Will you do a video showing it going over some smaller jumps and bumps to show the difference . It would have been great if you could do a before and after of the travel of the suspension comparing the factory vs nitron on the same jump at the same speed . I think a lot of people would like to see that . Put the factory shock back on find a bump that is so bad it bottoms out the factory shock then do the same bump at the same speed with the nitron shock ,and then do a jump or bump that causes the nitron to bottom out .
Just fitted Nitron , as per your video which was spot on , took 40 mins , no problems , no grease on my bolts either !!! bought a shock with spring for 90kg rider with kit on .Static sag without rider on is nearly 50mm less , much more supple spring. fells livlier because back end doesn't collapse under sharp acceleration . just need a fork spring video now , k tech spring for 90 kg on the way
Cooper Grease isn't right for this application, it's used on bolts where you have two different metal touching, high temperature and fixed, not moving joints. There are Needle roller bearings on lower linkages. I would recommend bearing grease, it's usually dark blue. Also, for our biker that are ridden through water I would recommend cleaning and greasing all of the linkage from time to time. It's not a hard job, but it's essential for suspension to work correctly, and mostly overlooked by amateur riders. I didn't want to sound criticizing, I guess and I guess any grease is better than no grease.. Happy New Year

I'm looking to get one of these shocks for my crf300l. I'm the same weight as you. For our weight, K-tech recommends a spring rate of 95 n/mm for the crf300l. While Nitron has given you a spring rate of 74 n/mm (425 lbs/inch). Am I missing something? I'm confused. That's a huge difference.
Hey, i know you've mentioned the suspension is the weak point on the 300l. So if you were going to be using it for green lanes and some light/medium (casual) mx tracks and riding the roads to get to and from would you say springs front and rear would be enough for a novice to start with or would a fork cartage and rear shock be much more beneficial? And if you had to prioritise front or rear, would you say one would be in more urgent need than the other, or equally so?
Look at our vid of it on a Mx track to see more of what it can do. Obviously upgrading will make the experience better/smoother/faster but standard will so most things (based on about 85kg rider). We upgraded the rear first which makes it more capable, does highlight the soft front more, but if you're not pushing it to it's limits you may find it suffice 👍
You wont need to change the shocks from the get-go. They are soft from standard but not so soft that they are useless. If you are cruising around on the trails in a moderate tempo or riding on the road it´s honestly really good as it is! But if you want to make jumps or go high speed over bigger bumps then they will bottom out.
How easy is it to get to the preload adjustment? It looks like it would be hard to access to change between riding with and without luggage. Am wondering whether to go for the hydraulic preload adjustment option now available...
When you replaced your shock for the Nitron, did you take apart all the suspension linkages in order to grease them, or just the ones to replace the shock?
Hi We have trusted Honda/dealer and removed what we needed to change shock. It’s not much work to do the rest while you are at it, so I would do all if I were doing it again 😎
Depends on the stroke length is each shock unit. The spring being compressed may or may not affect this. There is no clear cut answer until the two units shock stroke are known. A smaller spring but it is tighter wound and looks to be thicker versus stock are simply spring rates of the spring being changed. If you make the same tight coils longer, the spring is even stronger and likely would blow out or quickly ruin the length shocks we see from Honda and Nitron.
Just got the 300l rally. So what’s up with the suspension. Everyone seems to say it’s too soft? Is it gonna be ok for beginner to average rider ? Haven’t got it yet.

@@akuskus The reason for the average suspension is a matter of cost to manufacture compared to how much they can charge $$$ and still expect to fit the build cost PROFIT margins!

@@DirtnTrail agreed. Also, now looking at the removed original shock, it's clear that any more than 3 (ish) turns isn't advisable, as you just run out of threads. This is completely different to all the adjustment you have with YSS/Nitron/Hagon/K-Tech etc.

Weight with gear etc. Allow for passenger by stiffening the preload adjuster 👍

You have to get underneath it but not too hard when on the stand. If you do it often you can feel your way there!

We haven't tried it to know I'm afraid, we think the header is different, you may be able to fit the 250 silencer to that. Let us know if you do 👍

Being a 6ft or taller male does come with some weight.
This motorcycle is known to have a much softer suspension than others for some unknown reason.

It doesn’t seem that much better. Can’t you just crank down on the stock one to stiffen it up a bit.
Tried that and even with the max number of turns (x3) the rider sag was at 50% of travel and I'm only 90kg with gear on.

It will allow changing of ride height, but otherwise it'll be futile if it already doesn't work for you.
