Ratchet strap method rocks... However, you can get rid of it forever by changing to the complete KTech cartridge, not just the spring. You discard the o-ring forever with the 20IDS cartridge.. Pricy but worth it. Its what KTM owners switch to... if that tells you anything... KTM factory suspension is excellent. The KTech 20IDS is better.
That lower knuckle has bearings that are super dry. I would take it apart and pack it with some grease. These bikes cone out of Thailand an d the QC is not as good as the stuff out of japan. I think the steering bearings are just as dry so ill have to get to those on my bike too.
I can’t believe you didn’t loosen the pinch bolts in the upper clamp first. Wow. I’ve never seen anyone not do that, and seen plenty of fork caps ruined in my 60 years from those that didn’t.
@@XSRDetroit The top clamp can exude enough force to ‘bind’ the fork caps in place. So much so that I’ve seen numerous people round-off the cap trying to undo it. When I grew up, and even with my years in the industry, it was a given to loosen the top fork clamps before touching the fork caps.
I clicked on the comments to see if anyone made any comments on this. I learned years ago that loosening the pinch bolts stops them from getting damaged. @@XSRDetroit
My 300l came already with the k-tech suspension for a 175-200 lbs rider, the seat is currently at 37 inches from the ground so, am assuming it got about 2 inches taller with k-tech suspension, I been riding in Colorado and moab in lots rocky terrain and it handles it great Thanks for the video Cheers!

And you came through with the comparison at the end too! The only questions I have are: what front spring rate did you go with? And what rear shock weight rating did you get? I'm 160lbs body weight with at most 20lbs of gear so just wondering if what ones to get
Thanks dude! I went with the 8N on the front and 95N for the rear shock. That's the 175 - 210lb setup. I weigh 175lb, so I wanted some wiggle room for gear. Suspension feels great.
That spring is not for that bike. K-tech springs are the same length as the stock spring only they are thicker. Additionally, the air gap you stated is incorrect. That is the air gap for the stock Honda spring that K-tech gives on their website. The correct gap of 180mm is shown on the actual product spec.
If I would be looking to only replace the spring in the front and keep the fluid in both tubes, could you imagine doing this job with keeping both tubes in the triple clamp? (Removing the wheel of course)
Pull the tubes. You don't have to swap the fluid in the clutch side if you don't want to. You have to put a good amount of force on the spring and it'll be a lot easier on the ground.
Nice job on the video. Do you find you bottom out the front fork with the 8.0 spring? I do and I weigh 140 pounds plus 20 pounds of gear and bags. I also have the Ktech rear rated for 175 pounds and I bottom out the rear as well every time I ride. I'm not hitting big stuff either.
Do you think getting that retaining clip back in would be easier if you extended the fork back up so you didn't have to compress the spring so much? As I'm looking to do a spring upgrade on mine also, thanks

It really depends on your budget and how you want to ride the bike. The KTech is definitely one of the cheaper setups but I personally didn't need a serious setup for how and where I ride. Overall I'm happy with the setup, as long as you aren't doing anything too hardcore it's a good fit. Whatever you go with just make sure it's set for your weight and you should be good
Me again! I’ve got a couple more questions if that’s alright. When you got all of the old oil out of the clutch side and then added the new oil, did you compress the cartridge a few times to get all of the air out before measuring for the air gap? And how far down does the cartridge need to be to measure it? Because if I pulled the cartridge all the way up, the oil level dropped by a lot compared to when the cartridge is almost fully down. Same goes for the brake side, do you have to compress the cartridge a few times then somehow measure the air gap?
I used 10w fork oil I agree, but this year I'm working with a limited budget for bike parts. It's something I'd be interested in doing in the future though.

Pardon my ignorance but exactly how would this ruin the fork cap? I've removed countless forks this way and I've never had an issue.

I'll put a ziptie on my fork next year to check travel, but I haven't bottomed it out since installing this suspension

I think so, with my new tires the bike will be even taller

You won't be able to reach the part where the clip goes in if the fork is extended

What’s the tool used to get the clip back in? I can’t get the fork back together after swapping for my k tech 10.0 spring and have nobody to help me.
You'll need parts 07KMD-KZ30100 AND 07KMD-KZ30101 for the clip, I'd call you local Honda dealer they should be able to get you the tool

I did compress both sides a few times to move some air out. When you fully collapse your fork, that's where you take the air gap measurement
