This series was a suggestion for me to watch by UA-cam, and watched all four parts without a break. Loved the series. I have been interested in shortwave most of my life. Also, I like when someone puts in the effort to bring something back to life instead of just throwing it away.

This was a fantastic serie! Very impressing work. I was about to purchase one and was looking at getting to know a bit more about it before. This was quite humbling to say the least.
Giving all the risks involved with the aging components, it would be miraculous to find any second hand radio without something on the verge of breaking down, not mentionning I could not even test it. I’m starting to think it’s not a great idea, given I have zero electronic knowledge, nor do I have any equipment to sort anything beyond replacing the batteries, or potentially a bulb. Thanks mate, it was very interesting and joyful to watch.

I love your 1140 and the 2400 radios. They seem quite rare and do not come up for sale very often. I have now a satellite 2000, a 2100 and a 3400. They all have great sound on FM in particular. Interestingly the 2000 amp board on my radio had nasty leaking caps which I replaced as usual. The board then worked well, but the FM was low but clear. I decided to replace the all the BF 241 transistors on the FM board and was pleased to find that the sound level was immediately perfect. One of the 241 transistors it turned out was faulty. I guess as you say there must have been a faulty batch back in the day.
On the 3400 I had some switches that were broken like your switches on the 2400. I milled 8mm Ali rod and threaded the end M3 to make new levers. I then inserted a counter sunk M3 screw from inside the plastic toggle into the tapped Ali lever. This worked great but had to remove a little of the end of the toggle switch.
Great fun working on these old radios.
    John

I managed to get hold of one of these radios. It appears much in the same condition as yours with broken switches and missing knobs. It is also very grubby.
My first task is the power supply which consists of a loose transformer rattling around in the case. I looked through your videos and cannot see a clear frame of where it is located. Can you let me know how your transformer was secured. Mine only seems to have been glued in a rubber foam strip. The connections are a bit adrift and the fuse has blown. I just hope that it has not suffered from 240 v through the 110v setting. We will see!
      Regards John

I needed your channel to spur me on. My 2400 radio as it turned out was completely dead absolutely nothing. Even the transformer turned out to be dead. After much work on the left channel and power board I had what seemed like a big breakthrough. I first got the lights to come on and then at last some sound on FM on the right hand speaker that comes from the main board. It is very crackly and keeps coming and going. But at least there is some sound even that feels like a major victory. The power/left hand speaker board is not making a sound at all. I have replaced all the aluminium caps and have replaced the 2 tantalum caps. I fear this will take a while. One thing I have noticed is that someone has had a go at several of the tracks on the solder side of the switch controls board that were detached and been repaired. The boards seem to have through the hole plating and there are other tracks on the upper side. These too have been repaired in several places and look pretty fragile, sounds similar to what you found. John

      Hi John,
Only caught your reply today, thank you.
I'm working on another 2400 today and need to remove the AM r.f. panel to get at a transistor but can't figure how to do this as it seems stuck no matter what I try. Any suggestions would be gratefully received,
      Cheers,
      Rod

@@john2478 Hi John, The transformer sits into a rectangular rubber cup seated in the front panel of the cabinet, cupped again at the rear, this time sitting into a clear plastic frame that slides into a groove in the base of the cabinet locking in place with a clip contained in this plastic frame. e-mail me with your address and I will send photos if you like.

There's a song about from May to September. I can't remember how it goes 🤔😆 Great video repair series. Ingenious solution to left (or was it right?) channel output fault using a new PCB mounted in the cubby hole. Also getting your daughter to re-manufacture the switch levers. Great determination and patience all round which I think is need for these "newer" Grundigs.

Rod, excellent work on this receiver. Such a interesting radio. I have not seen a radio like this in Florida, USA. It sounds great 👍 I know what you mean, it takes time to do excellent working on these radios. Have a good day! Regards, JZ

Maybe a hint for future PCB with pinconnection. It wouldn't be a bad idea to make a keypin on the connection. This to prevent misplacing the cable.

Hi Rod, I have a Grundig Satellite 2400 which belonged to my late father. It isn’t working, although when plugged in with the Phono switch on there is a static electrical sound. On the Radio switch there is nothing. The radio tuning dial seems to be stuck too. I’m wondering if you would be in a position to look at it. I couldn’t find your email on your page. Hopefully you can reply. Many thanks.
