At lunch today my dad told the story (which I had never heard) of being on Password with Rita Moreno, as he's talking I'm googling and ask "might that have been August 21 of 1962" "possibly, why?" It was such a joy watching him re-watch himself from 61 years ago and it has been so great for us to be able to pass this clip around the family. Grateful that it was uploaded!
Smart guy.
Rita was adorable and still is. wish I could meet her.
She was 30 years old at that time.
Born on 12/11/1931, Rita Moreno was 31 when she won her Oscar for “Westside Story” in early 1962. They announce her being an Academy Award winner at the top of this show, so she was at least 31+.
She is also a very nice Puerto Rican lady.
Had the pleasure of meeting her at a west side story 55 year anniversary If i remember. She was very sweet signed extra autographs for my mom :)
"Hey you guys!!"
I love Rita...
@@youtubeillegallydeletesacc1525 Great story...
Although my mother has passed, she was a cousin of Rita Moreno!! I miss Mom and Dad!!
How???!!!!
Bill Cullen is one of my favorite game show personalities! So proud to call him a fellow Pittsburgher!
Excellent episode with the lovely Rita Moreno. I like that the host bent the rules ever so slightly to allow both contestants to go away happy. This is how it ought to be.
My gosh, this is like watching Password in a slightly alternate reality from the earth that we know - there's a different host, different theme mood music... and even a different whispering dude!
Jack Clark was a worthy sub for Allen!
Rita Moreno is a LEGEND
She sure is!
Rita is funny and clever as shit. And she was that way in a time where they really underestimated women. I love her.
She has NO accent in real life, but is completely bi-lingual, with a vast vocabulary.
@@loisann7619 Rita Moreno arrived in the United States when she was 5 years old.
With repeated games like this, it becomes pretty clear which contestant is the better player. The young man Bruce was very sharp!
Rita Moreno is still looking good when she is 92!
And Rita is alive and well. Keep your body moving people.
Claymore007 I’m watching one day at a time I can’t believe she’s almost 90, she’s amazing!!
Keep the juices jangling.
I really felt for the women, that's how I am in gameshows. Happy to see she did get something in the half
Good contestant. He was sharp!
One of my favorite clips from the 60s
Thank you for another good vintage Password episode!
Jack Clark very personable.
I’m so happy for Kay and Rita is lovely.
Love Rita’s hairdo ❤
In the lightning round for "Root" I think the obvious choice might be the first say "tree" then "bottom" (if the dude were to have said "trunk," then you follow up with the word "below" :-)
I see what you mean, but the difference is thinking under pressure.
@@gingerbaker4390So true there is the pressure factor.
Jack Clark did a good job as a sub host, although I do think he gave away too much information a few times. -- "Great clue!" -- That kind of thing.
As for the winnings, it might not sound big now ... but $750 in 1962 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $7,370.79 today. Nice take for about 25 minute's worth of work!
Rita was really pretty.
She's also... 1:08 😊❤
Wow, Rita was a real cutie pie back when she was young ❤. Overall, another fabulous game
WOW, thank you for posting this.
She was so funny. She played on happily divorced. She plays her mother
A pretty 5'2" Dec.12 sweetie! Jack Clark hosted Password off and on and even was a panelist a few times.
Jack Clark is Filling In For Allen Ludden Again
OKAY!!! Wh do you keep SAYING that all every episode?! We're not BLIND!
Kay Fox is from my buddy's Township today!! :D!!
I wonder if Dave Brubeck was popular enough right around 1962 to say "Brubeck" (as a clue for Jazz).
I like that..
@@dcasper8514 Thanks!
"Take Five" was from 1961. There was a good chance he would have been a household name by then.
He was massively popular in '62, but then so was Duke "Ellington" who was even more widely known and accomplished in the jazz world - though neither probably would have helped the female contestant, who was given "music" and "Newport" and could only muster "cigarette."
@@waldolydecker8118Newport cigarettes had been sponsoring THE PRICE IS RIGHT that year
When your rule keeper writes dictionaries...
Rita was so beautiful here... Sigh..
For "Position" as a first clue I might've said in a slightly robotic manner "Orientation." I also did think of "Placement" but maybe it could've been said a little more "logically" or robotically.
Jack Clark was a very pleasant host...
whats the name of the host? he's very handsome.
In the lightning round for "Rudder" I'm wondering if he added the word "Flap" and then also maybe the word "Rear" - I suppose that might have done it?
Surprised about the poor lightning round with Bill Cullen. Went the wrong way with the passwords "root", "shoulder", and "shell".
I’m from Washington township!
Rita is trailblazer beautiful woman still standing strong in 2024 movie should made of her life not that what you call a queen long live the queen .❤ 4:36
Bill Cullen is sharp
He's clueless His prompts for root, shell and shoulder are terrible!
He's a cheater.
@@lynnturman8157 Exactly! 9:05, 19:43.
@@josephkearny5874Exactly. He was stuck on military words for shell when he could have easily said “oyster.”
Although it did take me a little bit of time as an armchair quarterback from the 21st century watching this, LOL!… However for "Shell," I think two clues would've done it:
First "Egg" (when the contestant most likely says something like "Scrambled" or "Hatch") the follow-up clue would be "Covering" (most likely he would have gotten it at that point).
If not, I suppose clues like "Outer" and moving on to "Conch" might have done the trick.
But again, I'm an "armchair Password quarterback" sitting here in the 21st century, basically in science-fiction land watching this on a flatscreen device with no CRT and much less radiation (than in 1960s-era television set)- really wild.
Oh, probably the most science-fictiony thing I'm doing right now (and one of the reasons this comment is now so long) is that I'm using a speech-to-text program while speaking into a microphone...Talk about science-fictiony! :-)
How about Oil? For Shell company. That's what came into my head when shell was mentioned.
@@JasmineSurrealVideos Good one! That could be really good because although maybe now we don't think of "Shell Oil" more likely "gas station") but back then I think the word "oil" was used more often when denoting a gasoline manufacturer, etc. (Shell Oil, Standard Oil, etc. :-)
"Bicep" 'isn't a word'. The singular is "biceps".
But he wanted her to say 'muscle,' not 'muscles.'
@@user-rh2io7gm1l "Biceps" is the name of a (singular) muscle. The "s" isn't because it's plural.
Why do the keep saying that Bill Cullen is the star of the Price is Right? I didn't KNOW there was another host before Bob Barker
Bill was the original host of The Price Is Right on NBC from 1956-65. Bob Barker was the host of The New Priceis Right (the dropped New after the 1st season) starting in 1972 on CBS. The original version was played much differently than Barker's TPIR. Even Barker's version evolved over the years since it started as a 30 minute show without a Showcase Showdown (the Big Wheel).
ua-cam.com/video/2doj6jJhnX0/v-deo.html Cullen's original TPIR
This should tell you everything you need to know: www.game-show-utopia.net/tpir56/cullentpir.htm.
But if that isn't enough, there's always this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Price_Is_Right_(1956_U.S._game_show).
Hope it helps.
@@chrisparker7256 ABC the last two years
For "Jazz" I might have used the same first clue (Music) but said it in a real cool jazzy way stretching out the "U" i.e. "Muuuuuuuuuusic!"
Nonsense...."music" is too broad...all needed to be said was "Ellington" "Dixieland" or some other specific jazz clue - although the female contestant was clueless on "jazz" so nothing probably would have helped her
@@waldolydecker8118 Yes,"nonsense" if not said in a jazzy way. "Ellington" would have prompted "duke" (or Jazz?) but "Dixieland" is excellent!
More Passwords !
eerily jack clark, the sub host on this episode, sounds very much like bert convy from super password!
One such apparance bill cullen said pass playword
From 12:09, that lightning round has the most painful string of clues I've seen. All the passwords might have been guessed as easily as "spank" (whip, child) if for "root" he had given stem, underground; for "shoulder", arm, upper; and, for "shell", turtle, protection.
On the other hand, "pictorialize" for "illustrate" was excellent.

I'd be pissed
Can somebody tell Jack Clark that his commentary during clues isn't helpful? Is he on twitter? Anybody know?
He's been dead since 1988.
You can tell him but he won't hear you. You think AL didn't add comments?
Bill so cheated with that plunging gesture after he said plumber, that's not fair at all, Rita never cheated. That should have been disqualified. I don't mind watching without Allan but he has a dry sense of humour, a natural command and a twinkle this guy lacks.
Bill cheated here too: 9:05. Rita Moreno did a great job.
I noticed Bill cheated not infrequently on other Passwords too. He was a fellow game show host. They gave him free passes on the cheating and never intervened.
I saw Rita and thought it was AOC at first they look so much alike.
Please...They're two polar opposites. AOC is one of the dumbest people on this Earth.
I love this show but there's so much forgiven cheating going on in every episode
.. But it's all in fun I guess..
Cullen is the worst lighting round player ever
