    This is probably my favorite confession on the show because of how personal it is to her. Colin freed himself from the idea that he needed to be the hero and fix her mess for her to be important in their relationship. And given that professional jealousy is something that ruins irl relationships so much, it's so important and refreshing to see the male love interest unpack those feelings and let his envy give way to appreciation and awe. He never had to apologize for feeling hurt and betrayed by how Penelope was using LW before, but his love for her is so strong that he realizes he doesn't want her to make herself small. Colin Bridgerton I'm sorry they'll never get you like I do.

      👏💖 Yes, I adore Colin for that.
      He wants Penelope to shine, to always support her and be in her presence.
      Truly can not get over how much I adore them. It is evident that Nicola and Luke put EVERYTHING into these characters. To me, they are up there and on parr with my top regency era couples from all films and series across the decades.

    I need people to understand that in the books Lady Whistledown wasn’t as Scandalous as show’s LW. Colin had all the rights to be upset, Penelope called him out in the public for being pretentious. I don’t think that it is his Ego that is hurt by this but rather it puts him in doubt that If Penelope even loves him like he loves her. All the words he said about entrapment were said out of anger (it pissed me too but anyway).
    This confession really summarises everything that he has felt after accepting his wife as LW.

      Yeah, I would’ve loved to see that happen too. And I didn’t like how after he found out, he acted like it was an arranged marriage and was like,” well I guess I gotta go through with it now that you might be pregnant and I’m trapped in this with you.” When her mom assumed the exact same thing and he walked in on the conversation and stood up for her. Yes he didn’t really mean it. He was just hurt, but how dare he? I felt that he dragged on his petty party (because LW said that he wasn’t acting like himself after coming back from his travels when pen was right, and he was just mad because she called him out on it)for too long. He Damn well knows that he asked for her consent, their first time and even in the carriage so they were in it together And he can’t even control his reaction to her when she is near him.

    I really love his confession but in general I felt disappointed with him with his entire behaviour after finding out she was Whistledown. In the books it took him a while to fully accept her identity as well but at least he never stepped away from an argument with her and he didn't let their disagreements show in public. He always stayed attentive to her even if it took him some time first to realise that he was jealous and even longer to finally admit it to her.
    But on the other hand I am pleased how in the series he supports her revealing herself to the public. That was exactly the cherry on top of the cake I missed in the book.

    • @GeekyNerdTheatre
      @GeekyNerdTheatre 11 днів тому +17

      In the book Whistlecown never disparaged his family or talked poorly of him. His anger is more justified in the show. Show Colin's reaction isn't perfect, but even when he's upset with her he still chooses to marry her and to love her. He still chooses to try and protect her. But he also did the healthy thing and set boundaries for himself to try and process the information on his own rather than take it out on her. Book Colin forced champagne down her throat and harmed her physically to cover up his anger in public.

    • @friedibernhardt4307
      @friedibernhardt4307 10 днів тому +3

      @@GeekyNerdTheatre true ... but to be fair the book situation in which Colin forced champagne down her throat and squeezed her arm too hard was quite an impossible scene to handle in a healthy way. Her last publication went wrong spoiling their engagement ball. And one may be of different opinions about how relatable his anger at her being Whistledown was but right then Anthony wanted a toast on him and Penelope. So he preferred venting his anger in a subtle way rather than causing a scene. He still used the first chance to get away with her to confront her about it in private. ... But one should probably be very glad that the show decided not to spoil the engagement ball for him at least 🤔

      Yes getting gossip will be more difficult. Also she wanted to use her voice for good so which unheard people will she give a voice to? Also if the queen or public doesn't like it they will know who to send the negative feedback to. And she made some en*mies with LW. Even colin wanted to visit cressida with a pitchfork. I think some might feel the same way and now know who LW is. Pen will be faced with the consequences of her actions from now on. But at least she has a supportive husband (and family) to stand by her side when she does.

      That’s because Lady Whistledown was so different in the books. She’d never insulted the Bridgertons, the Eloise and Marina plots didn’t happen. In the books Colin is angry that she’s put herself at risk by being Whistledown, both in terms of how society will treat her and going to an unsafe part of town on her own, and he’s jealous. In the show he’s rightfully heartbroken. He’s hated Whistledown since season 1 and then he finds out that the woman he loves, the woman he trusts above all else, has not only been lying to him, she’s made it him feel some of the worst pain the last few years. That’s gonna take time to get over, but at no point did his love ever falter for Penelope. He just had to accept all parts of her, including Whistledown and her flaws, and also get over his own insecurities about whether he was enough for her. It’s a much more complex journey than in the books, and as a result, they are more interesting characters in the show.

    Por ego masculino muchas relaciones amorosas se han perdido.
    Es triste, pero en parte se debe a la forma en que son educados los varones.
    No hay nada mas triste que ver al hombre que amas que prefiere perderte con el corazón roto por no tener esa honestidad consigo mismo al no comprender que las mujeres queremos un compañero de aventura (vida) y es todo.

    I had mixed feelings. This confession was so beautiful but felt completely unearned because of lack of development before. It was quite literally carried by luke's acting. I know that pen and colin are written to be characters that are developing in the process of the show and with pen it is apparent because we see her start speaking her mind more and more as the show goes on. It's also Nicola's shine as a person that seeps into every character she takes on. I cannot say as much for Colin because it came across as sustained anger and then this. And there is very little internal conflict we actually saw with him. One thing this show suffers with is telling instead of showing. Which is exactly the disconnect with Colin's character in a season that is also his. Especially in pt 2, we don't see Colin feel jealous, we hear it from cressida. We don't see Colin catering to everyone's need, we just hear it from Violet. It could've been easily rectified by removing unnecessary side plots (like with the mondrichs, or benedict's been there, done that plot; or cressida's plot when they literally redeemed her to no avail) and allotting more time to see Colin's internalization of Pen being Whistledown. The reason why Portia and Pen making up felt so authentic was because we had moments of Portia looking genuinely proud of Pen. Having something as little as Colin looking through the old editions of Whistledown and smiling at something that reminds him of Pen and then going back to being upset. I know he does that with Pen's letters but again the connection is missing because that 2 second clip on its own is not enough to show that he reconciled Pen with Whistedown. Them making up earlier while Colin is still jealous and Colin asking Pen to read his manuscript is a lost opportunity. I think the book, for all it's other faults, does this well! I feel like the actual scene here was great, but if they had added him saying 'Congratulations, Lady Whistledown' that would've been so good. Anyway, it's cool to see that the reaction to show is as two-faced as Penelope.

    • @sarsok659
      @sarsok659 5 днів тому +1

      I agree that showing Colins jealousy and the shame he feels about feeling that jealousy could have been conveyed better but it was shown. He said the most humiliating part was Pen talking about him being a great writer while she was a renowned writer. His reaction to the amount of money she has made. Him holding his journal before he walks into the bedroom for the blanket.

    Gotta be said, as far as apologies go, this isn't bad, it could be better but it's not terrible

      Are you kidding? An apology like this is amazing. Even if he didn’t say the word “sorry” outright, the sentiment of regret and support is what matters

      I only know of Pen and Colin’s theme. It’s Since we met by Kris Bowers. It’s really heartwarming.

    I'm so disappointed with Pen's response to Colin!! What he said in the end ABSOLUTELY COMPLETELY MELTED ME and with her accomplished, brilliant, creative writing abilities all she could scurry up is a simple "I love u, you're a good man"?????..LAME!!!!!!!

    I do enjoy watching Bridgerton, but with that said, the books are better. How he handled finding out about her was much much better in the books. ❤
