@pericore9100 I know for a fact it holds its own vs the tribit stormbox blast and has a bit deeper bass but the tribits bass is a little stronger, I know it's an upgrade over the motion boom plus for sure, I'll be doing vs videos asap so we can see what it can do

I bet it won’t get released here in the UK though, the Monster Blaster 3.0 never did although for now I’m happy with my two Boombox 2’s until I upgrade to the Boombox 3 at some point when money permits. I regret now not jumping on the hype train when I first got into speakers about three years back and failing to buy an AIWA Exos-9 when they were still available, it held its own pretty well for its age against the BB3 in your comparison.
@-_-69420-_- the boombox 2 is one of my favorites, and the bb3 is really awesome, this skull candy is amazing especially for 169$ I'm loving it, it pretty similar to the boombox 2 and has pretty decent bass and lights
@bass_freak I think it sounds good but not as good as the boombox wifi, but for 169$ you can get 3 for the price of 1 boombox wifi so the choice is yours, I love jbl but I hate their prices
just got my Barrel xt and its nice actually. just did some bass measurements. if i measure the front of the speaker bass rolls off at 40hz if i measure from the back passive radiator it rolls completely off at 30hz however between 30hz and 38hz its barely audible. so realistically its strong till about 45hz and it can do some bass between 38hz and 44hz just at a lower db. bb3 does go deeper for sure. bb3 is strong down to about 40hz. this is about equal to the blast maybe slightly deeper
@ferreiragunderson5027 it's physically not possible to get lower im such a small enclosure. So no, the "LFM" Mode you're talking about doesn't make the speaker sound deeper. In fact it sounds even worse with lfm
This thing is a BEAST and at only $79.00 at Walmart for the early BLACK FRIDAY SALE I had to purchase two of them for only $158.00 to link them together. I recommend that people should get at least one of them at that price.

I just picked this up from Walmart for $79 an absolute steal for the sound quality😊... it's not quite as refined as the Boombox 3 but it's damn close to it... and the Boombox 3 is on sale for Black Friday for $350 what's a normal price of 500. This speaker is the go-to option for me especially since I can pick up 2 forcnormal price right now...or 4, link em together and still pay less than the ALREADY DISCOUNTED Boombox 3 LOL

But JBL Boombox 3 WiFi kicks all their asses. Because it is tuned for indoors. Much better. Easily 38 Hert. Most songs i listen will be great. And it does not have 700 Hertz peak outdoor tuning like normal Boombox 3. Boombox 3 is more mid upper bass. Boombox 3 WiFi is deep bass boosted. And JBL is louder than two and now with WiFi better sound quality. 🗿🍷
@Jagistreviews btw that speaker has battery management like the Sony's, so the volume isn't good passed 50% for party's but it still goes very deep in the bass.

So I use liberty 3 pro earbuds by anker to listen to reviews because of the dual driver setup they have, and “spatial” or “surround” audio so when ever you moved the camera around while the speaker was playing my earbuds had a field day just sending the sound in all of the directions possible 😂
I love the lights too, and yes it's pretty dang similar sounding to the tribit and I think the bass is actually deeper on this than the tribit, I'm getting a tribit again and will do a vs battle asap
@@Jagistreviews That would be amazing. the Blast is $146 right now so it's a little bit ahead of Skullcandy on price but if the XT goes deeper it might be worth the difference. Never underestimate the power of a larger diameter single woofer, it usually has more cubic inches of cone than 2 woofers in the same enclosure.
@@Jagistreviews Hell yeah, like the OG Aiwa Exos 9. I did the math and if the woofer is a standard 6.5" model the cone area will be 33.18 inches. The cone area of two Stormbox Blast 4.2" speakers adds up to only 27.7 inches so the Skullcandy can push way more air. If they get the wattage and tuning right (and up the excursion) they become the king of boom.
Hi. I just picked up one of the Barrel XT from Walmart and mine doesn't seem to charge past 70%. Have you been able to fully charge your unit? It came in dead so I put it on the charger for about 12 hours. Nice video by the way.

The bb3 reaches a bit lower on bass and is a notch louder than the skullcandy, to me this skullcandy is really comparable to the bb2, I think the bb3 is for sure better but 3x more expensive
I bought one of these new this week. To ne it sounds weak like it could use a few notches to be louder i have a jbl xtreme 2 and the volume is a little louder on that. It does sound great though

Been looking for a boombox sized speaker with more low end and this honestly looks amazing for the price Naturally it came out only a few days before I bought an Encore, lol Comparisons soon? Would love to see how the Barrel holds up!
Turned out the refurbished encore I got had a defective battery. Was a whole mess but I did get to test the speaker along with the Tribit blast a while ago. Had to get a Barrel brand new especially after all the refund trouble lol Encore blows the barrel and tribit out of the water for bass but the tribit does best at max volume for mids and highs. Skullcandy also seems to be the least powerful (70 Watt? Vs 90W Tribit 100W Encore). Bass from the skullcandy is definitely deepest for its size and price range though IMO Skullcandy does have a really good balance. Tribit has distortion from passive radiators and a weird dip in the highs, Encore has low battery life and falls apart outside. Skullcandy sounds most natural and clean and still gets loud without any distortion or strange frequency dips and keeps pretty good clarity although the bass does thin out at max The big thing is the portability though, Skullcandy is most portable by a landslide from what i’ve experienced owning all three and a partybox 110. Makes a huge difference for me being able to easily use a speaker anywhere and the skullcandy is not only the lightest but also the most convenient with the strap hooks too. The tribit is heavy and clunky and the Encore is heavy/awkward to carry. Skullcandy also has that smaller center piece on the bottom which I found surprisingly useful for setting it on smaller tables etc than the Tribit or Encore. IMO Skullcandy did pretty good this time with the Barrel, I just think if they were to up that main driver 20 watts or so to match up with the competitors like Tribit they’d be on top no question

Ahh damn I'm sorry to hear that man, you for sure should keep checking I'm sure they will get them back in stock in time for you to get one for cheaper, you really should try your hardest to get one, they are a Damm good speaker especially for that price!!!
After a few hours comparing speakers. The barrel xt, blast and encore i think the barrel xt is a interesting speaker. Its not perfect. I think there is to much treble. The parry i like is the mids and highs arw super clear but i think there pushed forward to much. I think it masks the bass a tad. As for bass while i does play somewhat deep. There is not much output below 50hz. It goes down to about 38hz at a reduced db. I found in comparison to the tribit the barrel xt has more mid bass rumble and thump. However the tribit has more impressive bass at 41hz. This one track i use has a 41hz bass tone and the barrel xt just slightly plays it but the blast has at least 3 times the put out at specific moment in the song. That was the theme of the rest of the tracks i compared. One track the barrel xt sounds more impressive and the next one the blast sounds better. So depending on the bass tones wull determine which sounds better. The tribit j found has a bass peak a bit deeper than the barrel xt. It has an ovrerall warmer feel to its bass. The encore plays significantly deeper than the blast. Irs not even close. At least 3 times the deep bass rumble. However the encore struggles a tad with mid bass runble and i found on somw tracks the barrel sounds bettter. Im not a fan of the mid and highs on the encore. They sound a bit muffeled to me and closed in. The barral xt sounds more open and with better imaging as the full range drivers are farthed apart. This is not a spealer you want to be close to when playing due to the sharp highs and forward mids and highs. Keep it back at least 10 feet.
Thanks for doing so much testing and getting all these good results, I will use this information as best as I can and eventually should be able to post some videos with all these speakers
Just out of curiosity, would it make much difference to swap the stock sub with Alpine, Pioneer, Rockford, etc? I've always loved Skullcandy, since Jr High, and am really interested, but I've been working with JBL speakers for a few years and don't see any videos comparing this one to a JBL Extream of Boom Box. @mihaijuravle6145 I think it and the tribit stormbox blast are probably the best speakers you can buy for under 200$ right now, the tronsmart max looks pretty good though to but I haven't heard it yet
my only issues with the boombox 3 was the crappy battery life and it doesnt really get that loud, plus when you put it to max volume, the bass is barely audible, it rolls off at about 70% of max volume and never gets louder, curious to see if this barrel gets louder with bass at max volume
I agree with all that, the barrel does not get louder than the boombox 3 unfortunately, its more the loudness of the boombox 2, though it does seem to retain its bass better to me, but you can get 2 or 3 skullcandy Barrel for the price of one jbl boombox 3 and 2 or 3 is for sure going to sounds better than just one jbl boombox 3, battery on the skullcandy is better than on the boombox 3 as well
Great video man! And it does have a good decent amount of bass on it. Just a quick question though. I got mine back in November when it was onsale. Now I just noticed mine doesn't fully charge nomore. All the lights are full except the last one it just keeps blinking had it charging like 5 hours and never fully charged. I tried to look online for anwsers but couldn't find any. You happen to know any idea on why it doesn't fully charge.
Hmm I haven't experienced that problem yet myself, I got mine for black Friday too, that sounds like it good be the battery starting to give out already that's basically what my jbl extreme 1 and 2 did, that just sucks its happening so soon if that's what it is, otherwise I'm really not sure what it could be
@Jagistreviews Gotcha! Seen on there website where they give ya a 1 year warranty on it. Monday I'll just have to chat with them and get a replacement. And I really don't use it that often either is the weird part about it with how if that is the reason the battery starting to go out so soon. Thanks for your reply.

@Jagistreviews I watched a Skullcandy user guide video and it shows when you hold the the volume up and down at the same time when it's on that it will say what Percentage it is at. And mine says 100%. I just don't ever recall the charging light constantly blinking especially hours later. But Skullcandy is closed on weekends so I got to wait till Monday to be able to reach out to them. But I'll definitely let ya know what they tell me.

Just bought it yesterday got it out of the box and turned it in and it seemed fine playing Bluetooth then after about 5 seconds the sound cuts out and all you hear is the bass from whatever is playing

Hey so I'm not sure what's it's rated I'll have to check, to me I think the jbl boombox still goes deeper and is a bit louder than this skullcandy, I'll try to get my hands on the bb3 wifi edition and do some test, this does go surprisingly low in frequency and for 169$ it's nearly impossible to beat for the price, I mean you can get like 3 of these for the price of one jbl boombox and three of these would dominate just 1 boombox, I'll do some test and vs battles soon

See if you can disable the "Low pass frequency" like you can with JBL speakers.. the Charge 5 is way more capable than it's programmed perameters.

JBL Boombox 3 has 5.25 inch passive radiators and 7.4 x 4.5 inch subwoofer.

Nice, I also have that little Aiwa speaker back there lol, it was so strong the passive ripped, and the amp blew the speaker..

How do you remove the grill
Start at the bottom of the speaker where the line is and pry up gently with a butter knife and it should pop off

Heck yeah!!! It's worth it trust me, I even think it's worth it at full price but it's a no Brainer at 79$ that's such a great deal

The bb3 reaches a bit lower on bass and is a notch louder than the skullcandy, to me this skullcandy is really comparable to the bb2, I think the bb3 is for sure better but 3x more expensive
I bought one of these new this week. To ne it sounds weak like it could use a few notches to be louder i have a jbl xtreme 2 and the volume is a little louder on that. It does sound great though
I agree it could use an extra notch or two of volume and power for sure, it does get a bit more loud and strong when plugged in as well

Turned out the refurbished encore I got had a defective battery. Was a whole mess but I did get to test the speaker along with the Tribit blast a while ago.
Had to get a Barrel brand new especially after all the refund trouble lol
Encore blows the barrel and tribit out of the water for bass but the tribit does best at max volume for mids and highs. Skullcandy also seems to be the least powerful (70 Watt? Vs 90W Tribit 100W Encore). Bass from the skullcandy is definitely deepest for its size and price range though
IMO Skullcandy does have a really good balance. Tribit has distortion from passive radiators and a weird dip in the highs, Encore has low battery life and falls apart outside. Skullcandy sounds most natural and clean and still gets loud without any distortion or strange frequency dips and keeps pretty good clarity although the bass does thin out at max
The big thing is the portability though, Skullcandy is most portable by a landslide from what i’ve experienced owning all three and a partybox 110. Makes a huge difference for me being able to easily use a speaker anywhere and the skullcandy is not only the lightest but also the most convenient with the strap hooks too. The tribit is heavy and clunky and the Encore is heavy/awkward to carry. Skullcandy also has that smaller center piece on the bottom which I found surprisingly useful for setting it on smaller tables etc than the Tribit or Encore.
IMO Skullcandy did pretty good this time with the Barrel, I just think if they were to up that main driver 20 watts or so to match up with the competitors like Tribit they’d be on top no question
How is the 60W output divided among the three drivers?
I'm honestly not 100 percent sure, my guess would be 40 watts to the main woofer and 10 watts to each side woofer

After a few hours comparing speakers. The barrel xt, blast and encore i think the barrel xt is a interesting speaker. Its not perfect. I think there is to much treble. The parry i like is the mids and highs arw super clear but i think there pushed forward to much. I think it masks the bass a tad. As for bass while i does play somewhat deep. There is not much output below 50hz. It goes down to about 38hz at a reduced db. I found in comparison to the tribit the barrel xt has more mid bass rumble and thump. However the tribit has more impressive bass at 41hz. This one track i use has a 41hz bass tone and the barrel xt just slightly plays it but the blast has at least 3 times the put out at specific moment in the song. That was the theme of the rest of the tracks i compared. One track the barrel xt sounds more impressive and the next one the blast sounds better. So depending on the bass tones wull determine which sounds better. The tribit j found has a bass peak a bit deeper than the barrel xt. It has an ovrerall warmer feel to its bass. The encore plays significantly deeper than the blast. Irs not even close. At least 3 times the deep bass rumble. However the encore struggles a tad with mid bass runble and i found on somw tracks the barrel sounds bettter. Im not a fan of the mid and highs on the encore. They sound a bit muffeled to me and closed in. The barral xt sounds more open and with better imaging as the full range drivers are farthed apart. This is not a spealer you want to be close to when playing due to the sharp highs and forward mids and highs. Keep it back at least 10 feet.
Thanks for doing so much testing and getting all these good results, I will use this information as best as I can and eventually should be able to post some videos with all these speakers

my only issues with the boombox 3 was the crappy battery life and it doesnt really get that loud, plus when you put it to max volume, the bass is barely audible, it rolls off at about 70% of max volume and never gets louder, curious to see if this barrel gets louder with bass at max volume
I agree with all that, the barrel does not get louder than the boombox 3 unfortunately, its more the loudness of the boombox 2, though it does seem to retain its bass better to me, but you can get 2 or 3 skullcandy Barrel for the price of one jbl boombox 3 and 2 or 3 is for sure going to sounds better than just one jbl boombox 3, battery on the skullcandy is better than on the boombox 3 as well
For Volume and use in an open area at 100%, I think the LG XG9 is better than the BB3
Great video man! And it does have a good decent amount of bass on it. Just a quick question though. I got mine back in November when it was onsale. Now I just noticed mine doesn't fully charge nomore. All the lights are full except the last one it just keeps blinking had it charging like 5 hours and never fully charged. I tried to look online for anwsers but couldn't find any. You happen to know any idea on why it doesn't fully charge.
Hmm I haven't experienced that problem yet myself, I got mine for black Friday too, that sounds like it good be the battery starting to give out already that's basically what my jbl extreme 1 and 2 did, that just sucks its happening so soon if that's what it is, otherwise I'm really not sure what it could be
@Jagistreviews Gotcha! Seen on there website where they give ya a 1 year warranty on it. Monday I'll just have to chat with them and get a replacement. And I really don't use it that often either is the weird part about it with how if that is the reason the battery starting to go out so soon. Thanks for your reply.

@Jagistreviews I watched a Skullcandy user guide video and it shows when you hold the the volume up and down at the same time when it's on that it will say what Percentage it is at. And mine says 100%. I just don't ever recall the charging light constantly blinking especially hours later. But Skullcandy is closed on weekends so I got to wait till Monday to be able to reach out to them. But I'll definitely let ya know what they tell me.

Just bought it yesterday got it out of the box and turned it in and it seemed fine playing Bluetooth then after about 5 seconds the sound cuts out and all you hear is the bass from whatever is playing
@christhomas3753 go take it back immediately and switch it out for a different one, sounds like you got a faulty one maybe has a loose wire

Hey so I'm not sure what's it's rated I'll have to check, to me I think the jbl boombox still goes deeper and is a bit louder than this skullcandy, I'll try to get my hands on the bb3 wifi edition and do some test, this does go surprisingly low in frequency and for 169$ it's nearly impossible to beat for the price, I mean you can get like 3 of these for the price of one jbl boombox and three of these would dominate just 1 boombox, I'll do some test and vs battles soon
