    On week 4 with the GMRS H3. Really like the USB-C charging. Did not use the programming cable because the radio so easy to program. According to a fellow H3 station, he got the HAM version and at boot up you can choose HAM or GMRS, so get the HAM version.

      Thanks for the info! Do you not get that option shown via the process in the video with the GMRS version?

      @@The_Comms_Channel 5:40 No, The GMRS version does not get a boot option screen, just goes straight to GMRS channels.

      Every single H3 is exactly the same radio only difference is the mode that you can select from a boot loader screen. Then you are given the 3 modes to choose from

      USB-C is the way to go! Great to have it in an inexpensive radio like this.

    I had 6 Baofeng's, gave 4 of them to friends and relatives, now I have 2 TID H3's and loving them, they fit in well with all my ham radios, I'm thinking of getting a GMRS license just to round things out. They are one radio for HAM or GMRS I chose the option to run both.

      @@The_Comms_Channelyeah. For the $35 I paid for it it’s great. I got the double battery pack as well. USB C is the way.
      I’m definitely interested in the vgc/btech uvpro radio also. I need a friend to jump into the aprs stuff with me to justify it haha

    I went with the BTech BF-F8HP PRO. It has a built-in GPS and it is very easy to program from the front panel. The channel names are about 12 characters long. It also comes with a USB-C charging port on the battery.

    Baofeng has come out with batteries for most of their radios (including the UV-5R) that has a USB-C charging port on the batteries.

    There are some pretty interesting feature on the TID- AM airband receive, and it will get down below 27mhz which may enable FM and AM CB

    I've been eyeing these, I've been kinda busy with meshtastic stuff lately, and I've been doing testing with the Baofeng UV25. I've been fairly interested in your Meshtastic BBS as well as some BBS stuff TechPrepper was doing. It's actually got me interested enough I might try setting up a BBS of my own, maybe IP based, dunno.

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  День тому +2

      Definitely give it a go! It's handy to have a way to leave messages for folks that are away from the radio for pickup later. We're working on an APRS version of the Meshtastic BBS as well that will hopefully be available in January.

    Now look at you have gone and done. 😂 I will have to order one and check it out. I will have to test the antenna to see how well it does in both ham and gmrs. I'm wondering if that may be a different part from the two models.

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  23 години тому +1

      I suspect it's probably the same antenna. I'll probably be upgrading to a Nagoya like I've done on the VR-N76

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  День тому

      Well, you must have either gotten a bad one or had it on a low power setting. I have two of them here and both output 5+ watts
      Image proof below:
      www.thecommschannel.com/images/TD-H3-Power.jpg
      And the receiver is comparable to the similarly priced baofengs.
