In spite of her financial problems and well known drug addiction, Judy Garland is arguably the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. She was a fine actress, and if the script called for her character to dance, she could do it. Just watch Judy match Fred Astaire step by step in their number of “When The Midnight Choo Choo Leaves For Alabam” from Easter Parade. And her innate musicality wed to her great vocal powers was astonishing at times.
So true! She loved, love! What an ENTERTAINER!!!! Sadly, dam’ drugs took her farrr toooo soon 😔 We are lucky though to have these marvelous videos. She was taken from us 1969, age 47 ONLY 47 years old!!!! 😔 She surely did though accomplish more than most in her 47 years. Thank you JUDY GARLAND for being the ONE AND ONLY 🤩🤩🤩🤩♥️🙏
@@Larsen3306Here are a few facts ... Her real name was Francis Ethel Gumm. The youngest in a 3-sister kiddie act. MGM boss, Louis B. Mayer told her mother: "If you let me change her name, I'll make her a big star." Yes, But. He also pumped her full of drugs, to make himself more money. In her field of entertainment, Judy Garland was THE Greatest Natural Talent of ALL Time. Kate Smith was known as "The Big Lady With The Big Voice". But Judy was "The Little Girl with The Great Big Voice". Also "Little Miss Jolson", and "Leather Lungs". James Cagney was America's Favorite Actor (top box office draw 3 years in a row). But, Judy was America's MOST Beloved star. The greatest at MGM (the biggest, best studio). Her film, "The Wizard of Oz" is definitely the greatest movie of All Time. ☆ Seen by More people than ANY other object on Earth ! Shown annually, on network TV for almost 40 years in a row. When it was released to the home video market (VHS tape), it instantly shot to the #1 TOP seller. Recently, all Hollywood industry insiders got together. They voted, almost unanimously, "Over The Rainbow" to be The Greatest film Theme Song of All Time. Well Duh !!! This video clip is from Judy's short-lived TV variety show. Our family watched it. As a child I was taught it was proper to wait until the end of a performance, then politely applaud. I asked my parents WHY the audience applauded her songs at the Beginning? They couldn't answer me. As an adult, I now Know why. The audience KNEW that No matter what she chose to sing, it was going to be a thrilling entertainment experience. ... Just sayin'
Judy doesn't think about performance.... it's like it comes from a spring deep within her. One of my favorites is Dear Mr. Gable...I had a 45 of it. ❤️🎼❤️
My husband died on November 27th, 2019. He thought it was the flu; sepsis took him from me way too soon. This song soothes my soul. God Bless everyone. Be kind because life is short. Merry Christmas to all.
you prolly dont give a shit but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I appreciate any help you can give me
@Otis Kamden i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Lyrics Rock a bye, your baby, with a dixie melody. When you croon, croon a tune, from the heart of dixie. Just hang my cradle, mammy mine, right on that masoned, dixen line. And swing it from virginia, to tennese, with all the love that's in ya. Weep no more, my lady, sing that song again, for me. Sing on black joe, just as though, you have me on your knees. A Million baby kisses, i'll deliver, if you will only play that swanee river. Rock a bye your rock a bye baby, with a dixie melody. OH!!Weep no more, my lady, sing that song again, for me. Sing on black joe, just as though, you have me on your knees. A Million baby kisses, i'll deliver, if you will only play that swanee river. Rock a bye your rock a bye baby, with a dixie melody!
I have been a (fabulous fairy) (since birth), I have loved Judy Garland and been a huge Judy Garland fan since I was a child, in my opinion she is extremely rare, one of a kind, absolutely talented ,absolutely beautiful, and absolutely fabulous ,her voice, her image, and her talent captured me from the start ,as a child the moment I saw her, the moment I heard her, I fell in love with her, when you put a fabulous fairy like myself and Judy Garland together you not only get the fabulous rainbow, you also get the (true definition) of the word (gay) (really is to be happy) thanks so much .love love love 😊🌈🐞🧚
Too Bad Elvis and Judy never did a concert together-- between their singular voices and the way they move they could have whipped up a lot of musical butter from their cream.
A great rendition. But in a way it's sad to watch this she looks so nervous at the beginning. She was taking lots of pain pills and other drugs for years by this time. She was also a heavy drinker. Judy Garland died at age 47. Cause of death was barbiturate poisoning.
Judy was in front of a live audience, that applause was real. Judy's fans were rapid, they were sitting in the audience of their idol, and she did what she did best, give you all she had. She never just went through the motions, she gave her fans all she had, she never left anything in the bag, she spent it all. There are millions of us fans who would have given anything to see this magical lady perform live. She was and still is the greatest ever, she knew how to bring an audience to their feet.
She is the genius of geniuses and this is astounding ... but she is so high on speed, here, it’s disturbing. They all used it to deliver on stage: Elvis, etc., but even though her performance is excellent, you can tell she’s SCREAMING high. I prefer her excellence when she was in good or reasonable health. No one really helped her, not fully and properly, and when she did actually try to help herself, there were always husbands needing custom suits and seats at the race-track. Her best work lives on brilliantly and all the husbands are where they should be-DEAD.
You don't know if she was high on anything here. The vocals are not screaming I do not agree. I am a jazz singer and sing alot of these songs, particularly the Jolson ones, she is singing well within her vocal range as a mezzo soprano and the use of the resonance at the end is called belt which Streisand uses as well. I agree no one really helped her and it pains me especially as she was my greatest inspiration as a singer, I wouldn't be one without her influence, I think she was simply one if not the greatest female entertainer this century has produced.
So true Jonathan. Hollywood got her hooked, and there was no turning back. Yes, speed (cocaine for others in later years, ie Whitney Houston) etc was the more modern speed. It’s why they had that EXTRA POWERFUL (quiver) to their voices. I know, I sang cabaret for years and IT (that addictive junk MADE A DIFFERENCE in my voice! You just performed better) when though IT TAKES OVER, as it did for Judy and Whitney, to name two, you no longer HAVE CONTROL, do you ever on drugs, no, but I hope you get my gist. She was a great performer, no doubt, and barbiturates and alcohol took her at 47, indeed 😔
She had more talent in her little finger then most artists have in their whole body
Showmanship, stage presence, electricity like no other singer.

Wow you said that covered ❤gold
Watch the face. It is obvious, she Loved Life, and LOVED to entertain the Audience -- like no one else, since Jolson, himself.

Sing ol’ black Joe. Ol black Joe was a famous song in the 1800’s. Also it’s mason dixon line that seperated the north from the south
Some moments are indelible ... she captures it ... let it be recreated ... 2021 The Renaissance of Romanticism in the time of Covid!
She was fantastic!!

Wow! Such talent

She's going to hang the cradle on the MD-PA border (or the MD-DE border). Cool.

she was a mess how sad
Great minus..the dixie n mammy...
Awesome. But Why the fake applause?
+RealPete they are real. they are in the pits. Judy is on a catwalk like platform
+RealPete I was just about to ask the same thing. Fake or real, it's annoying to have to keep hearing after the song is over.
