In today's installment, we will look at John Riel Casimero's (PHILIPPINES) latest performance against Yukinori Oguni (JAPAN) and see whether or not those claims possess any merit.

Couple of Sluggers. That almost looked like a foul by Casimero at the end. Seemed to slide the inside of his glove down the eye, it didn't look like the punch did it. Casimero could maybe knock out Inoue at the start of a round but I can't see him having a chance if it goes the distance.

Casimero has a ton of work if he wants to stand a chance let alone win against Naoya Inoue.
Casimero has no defense and his over handed right can be taken care of by the jab which is a straight punch, much faster.

You forgot that Casimero is a veteran at 3 divisions against fighters in their own territories yet manages to take their belts. The reason Casimero fights that way (lot's of overhand right) recently is because HE KNEW too well that he can always slap the hell out of his recent opponents ANYTIME. in a way, a SHOWBOAT. That will change when he faces Inoue, believe me. You'll see the tactical yet relentless version of Casimero. Inoue wont like it and being an intelligent fighter he is, he knows it too so for him, NO CASIMERO FIGHT for now. Patsy yet famous fighters will do for Inoue.

They said Casimero was training in his hometown and he didn't have good sparing partner. He doesn't have fisical treiner and his brother train him. So he didn't have good condicion.
TBP sent 2 japanese boxer for sparing for casimero suppose to be there for 3 weeks, total 46R of sparing, guess what happened? casimero did only 10R of sparing and finished sparing then start filming his UA-cam. he didn't practice at all, those japanese boxers end up going home earlier than suppose to. Casimero really messing up his situation by himself. He is a good fighter, He could be a better fighter but he has no chance to fight Inoue anymore.

Oguni deserves the rematch - in Manila would be great! I think he'd have a fighting chance of causing a big upset over there too..He gave a sterling performance, considering he'd been inactive SIX YEARS going into this fight. And He just ate Casimero's hardest punches and countered well, seemingly having a good gameplan which should work even in a rematch. I don't think Casimero will be able to change his habits enough.
Oguni is a trainer in his own gym these days and has gone straight back to doing just that..
Casimero had a less than convincing performance against an African (Namibian) opponent in his previous fight too. You might want to review that fight too, Coach.
Btw, Casimero was offered $3M to fight Tomoki Kameda but his promoter turned it down in favour of Yukinori Oguni, a FAR less risky matchup to keep Casimero busy in anticipation of the big Inoue payday.
After this performance, though, Inoue's manager-promoter Ohashi, who'd attended the fight, was asked about the Inoue match up, to which he replied saying Casimero needs a CONVINCING performance before that might happen. This has been interpreted as a polite way of saying NO WAY... Inoue, who hadn't attended but had joined in a live reaction, says he's no longer interested in the matchup...
Some respected pundits reckon Casimero's a bit too small for 122, judging from his showings so far. Oguni took them big punches and just came back at him too, remember...

Sadly with this unfortunately turn out of a draw, and unprepared sluggish performance by Casimero, has led to recent comment from Inoue that he find less interest in fighting Casimero in the near future.
Now, this fight was supposed to be a showcase fight, to prove that Casinero can make the fight happen in Japan, with making his weight, visa, corresponding to local commission, as a tuneup and rehearsal in a same bundle.
As to Ohashi mentioned in the interview with A-sign boxing that "Casimero can be an interesting matchup for Naoya, though i do have some concerns about him as a promoter, that he can make it to the ring properly. Now that TBP is handling the case, situation will look brighter for the future potential business". which was said less than an year ago, and this match was supposed to answer all of that.
here we are at a crossroad, while witnessing an obvious decline of a 3 division champ, having to struggle against ring rusted veteran without world rankings,
and in couple of month to witness the 2 division undisputed in a making by the absolute prime monster.
Casimero has a chance to pick up a title after the storm is gone as his 4th division. Isn't that a decent route to take?

Hi Charles, I've followed Casimero's career for years now and while he certainly has punching power and some decent boxing skills, his punches are wide and looping, not short and crisp like Inoue's. His most recent fight was somewhat of a disappointment where he appeared sluggish and lucky to get a draw out of it. Though at first he may seem like a viable opponent, I don't think he is and in my opinion would get stopped early, plus I think he fights at 118 not 122. Oh well
