  • It's time for new glasses and I wanted to check out some cheaper online options. This is my first experience buying glasses ONLINE and I wanted to give two companies, that I heard a lot about, a try. I tried out both Warby Parker and Zenni Optical and ended up with THREE PAIRS of glasses!
Below are the links to the specific Zenni glasses that I bought!
Large square tortoise shell glasses: go.shopyourlikes.com/pi/b1093e...
    Pink rectangle glasses: go.shopyourlikes.com/pi/a885c5...

I have to agree: the Zenni styles really looked great on you! The first ones were immediately nicer than the Warby Parkers, the ones with the pink temples made me immediately say, "Pretty!" and the turquoise pair seems to represent the "New You"...All great choices. Thanks for sharing!

I also buy from Zenni, mine cost more because of my prescription & the 1.67 high index progressive lenses are $73, I buy the clip on sunglasses as well and the $8.95 anti reflective coating, plus I pay in Canadian funds, so they cost me around $100 a pair, but still cheaper than buying them from the optometrist where frames cost around $200 - $350 before the lenses are added & they charge $60 for the reflective coating. And that's also without the clip on sunglasses, which would be another $80 - $100...So I am still saving a lot of money! I think I'll always be a Zenni customer!

@@user-he7sc3fg3r of course it's cheap but optometrist glasses aren't so significantly better that they're worth $300+ more. The worst glasses I've ever had came from optometrists. The best ones came from no-name kiosks and online stores. Go figure.

I feel like part of this is just interesting psychology. People are quicker to decide they like something they have already paid for rather than succumb to buyer’s remorse, and they are far more critical of a product that they are just considering purchasing.
Notice that she smiled at the mirror to asses her reflection every time she tried on a pair of glasses that she had already paid for, and compare that to her expression when she tried on, for example, the Warby Parker Wilke in Chestnut Crystal. She set her face in a a disgusted expression from even before she put them on, and made sure that she never smiled and relaxed to see what they would actually look like. It reminded me of my daughter’s reaction when she has to try a new food that she has already developed a strong opinion of even before tasting.

She made her mind up before starting the entire process and ended up horribly reviewing WP -- completely unfair. She should have reviewed Zenni, period. Face it, she wanted cheap glasses. That was her main concern. I've bought from both places, and like them both -- but WP quality is superior.

Warby Parker is more costly, but they donate one pair for every purchase. They also have actual stores to repair or address issues. Just wanted to point out additional reasons besides better packaging, better trial service, more advanced projections, and speedy service. I have bought several pairs of Warby Parker glasses because of their corporate model, which is something I value. I thought the Zinni styles looked cute! Enjoy!

Excellent video. I loved your old glasses and I love all three new pairs on you. Very attractive.
I'm a woman in her 70s on a fixed income so I am budget conscious all the time. Your video was very helpful to me. I wound up getting 4 pairs from Zenni. The total cost was less than half what it would cost for one pair at LensCrappers. I got a pair with progressive lenses for all around use; a pair of single vision sunglasses; a pair of single vision near--vision glasses for reading; and an intermediate-range (optimal at 14 feet) ideal for wearing around the house. I could never have afforded that full set elsewhere. They are all high quality, and I love the way they look.
Thanks again for your excellent video.!

I actually liked the pink on you for everyday wear. Years ago, when Warby Parker entered the market, I was never interested as they always seemed a bit preppy for my taste. However, they seem to have a lot of new styles. I have a store near me so I will consider them for at least one pair. However, I will definitely check out Zenni for backup pairs. Thanks👍

Did you ever have them checked? Inexpensive glasses are fantastic, but not if the prescription is wrong. Also, if they were not correct, did Zenni fix them for you? Did it cost?

Everyone always preaches about shopping local and how only a real optometrist can make you the perfect glasses. Well I spent over $200 AFTER insurance for the worst pair of glasses I've ever had at a highly rated optometrist. Chromatic aberrations, distortion around the edges, poorly fitted after an hour having them reshape the frames, list goes on. They remade them, still sucked. Went to another highly rated optometrist and had the same exact problems, returned those ones too. The best pair of glasses I ever had were $30 from a Walmart kiosk (not Walmart themselves) 10 years ago. The kiosk doesn't exist anymore so I'm going to try Zenni because I'm all out of options at this point.

I was planning to order prescription sunglasses by Warby Parker since I saw a few Facebook friends recommended them to other friends. But on the site it said start price for glasses was $94 that’s what drove me away from the company. I ordered a pair of glasses from Zenni after my last pair of glasses the one of the ear pieces snapped on them and I didn’t have a back up pair. The glasses I ordered from Zenni cost me around $14 total. This time I wanted a pair of sunglasses with my prescription in them since I never owned a pair of sunglasses with my prescription in them. I did have glasses when I was younger that changed to sunglasses when outside but didn’t work as sunglasses in a car. Most of the sunglasses styles on Zenni website were not compatible with my PD and SPH so I ended up getting a pair of regular glasses (Square Glasses 2031512 Gray) and changing the settings to everyday wear sunglasses and changed the lens color to dark grey which made them 80% sunglasses. Those ended up costing me a total of $34. I paid for standard 14-21 day shipping and a little over $3 for two sets of clear nose pieces for $1 something each. So my total came to around $37.

I think the three anti-reflective coatings have the same anti-reflective properties, the difference is the more expensive hydrophobic or oleophobic coating that resists water or oil, respectively. At least, that's the way it is now. I don't know how it was when this video was made.

Sucks Warby didn't work out for you, seeing as you can continue to order trial pairs until you do find one that you like. I found my pair in my 1st trial box, a co-worker of mine found his pair after three trial boxes. My pair came out to $145 but that's because I ordered the Felix with blue light filtering as I work in an office. But Warby accepts my insurance out of network, and my insurance will reimburse me $100. So my out of pocket is only $45. Additionally Warby does not charge you extra for UV and Anti Glare coating, they begin to charge extra for blue light filtering, transitions and if it's a progressive prescription.

Funny that you said "tired of paying $200 at the optical shop" because my optical shop for the last couple years keep quoting me $800 as the low price, ha! No way I will pay that much. I've ordered from Zennies since 2014 and this year might be trying Warby Parker even though it will cost me about $250 instead of the $100-$120 I usually spend at Zennies because of my thick prescription and need for the thinner lense.

Blue light protection doesn't actually make a blue hue in your lenses. It's just the color of the anti reflective coating. It's usually blue, green, or pink-ish.

I'll have to try them. I've only tried Firmoo.Budget girl turned me on to them. I'm going to try Zenni because they offer kids frames. I have to get small frames with shorter length. Usually kids frames of women's petite. Warby Parker doesn't have kids frames and don't list the size numbers on their site. There is such a markup on frames at optical centers. I just bought glasses at Shopko and my frames were $80 or $100 but found them on the internet for $8

Sorry you didn't like Warby. I found them more than a decade ago, when starting to wear glasses again in lieu of contacts for the first time since I was a kid. I would be interested to compare the Zenni materials, but can tell you just comparing Warby frames and lenses to say a $350+ pair of glasses from Lens Crafters, and Warby wins hands down. Their materials are as good if not better than the Luxottica crap that's marked up like a thousand percent at most retail eye shops, and I found that the Warby lenses were way harder to scratch than "Crizal" which came at a premium from my eye doctor. True, they do err on the side of trendy / hipster, but they have plenty of understated frames as well. I may have to give Zenni a shot at some point, but have been thrilled with Warby for quite some time now and don't really see that changing. Either option is certainly better than before decent glasses became commonplace online!

If you happen to have VSP, the amount of insurance you get for them, will vary based on where you go to buy them, and what brand they are, kind of confusing, yes I won't bore you with the detail, but just sharing for anyone hoping to use insurance, that your provider might have more information to help you MAXIMIZE your benefit!
Also fun fact - not only can you use HSA/FSA for optical, you can use those funds for sunglasses as well (even if not prescription)
And I have to make a shameless plug for www.eyeconic.com which is our retail outlet online, which also has a handy virtual try-on (like the one you mention for warby parker)
Ok now that that fun disclaimer is out of the way, another great tip for trying to order glasses is looking at some frames you already own and comparing the sizing. Here is a guide to how you can interpret those 3 numbers you have on the inside of your temple: www.allaboutvision.com/eyeglasses/faq/eyeglass-frame-size.htm like you, I also have a heck of a time trying to find frames that fit, and this sizing might help you order future frames from wherever you choose to shop, if you use the same sizing on some of your favorite current frames!
Loved this video! I tried Warby Parker and was also not impressed. 1. I had too big of a noggin even though I selected their largest frame styles, 2. They felt cheap 3. They came smudged like they hadn't been cleaned between try-ons which grossed me out. LOL
Also unfortunately, I have such a strong prescription that when I buy my glasses I always pay for the extra money to thin the lenses....oi....LOL

I am so sorry that I went with Zenni. I will have to use a terrible pair with only one good eye for months while I save money to go elsewhere. Customer support was dehumanizing. PLEASE If you are low income and hoping to save money do not use Zenni. Only buy these type of glasses if they DON'T MATTER. Sunglasses or non-critical single vision MAYBE. I LOST $100. Support was HOSTILE. Please Baby Stepping, tell people with complex prescriptions or critical vision requirements that online glasses are a total waste of money.

You get what you pay for .... Zeni is a bunch of garbage.....there is quality in lens and frames....a $300 pair of frames has much better hinges and coatings on them .... same with quality lens.... there are definitely differences .....as I said you get what you pay for!!!!!!

Rosetta Malvese i went from wearing a pair of Ray Bans (paid $250 after insurance) to now wearing Zenni. So far, I see no difference in the quality for my needs. I could replace my Zenni glasses more than 5 times over for the price I paid for my Ray Bans. Maybe it’s not for everyone but so far they are working great for me! 🤷‍♀️

@@BabyStepping2Freedom Great that they are working for you. I had a major problem with the anti-glare from Zenni. Night driving, glare was impossible compared to the anti glare I had with previous glasses from the VA. If glare doesn't bother you, then go for it. I do buy my reading glasses from Zenni with blue light protection.

Terrible review because it's SO unfair to Warby Parker. Zenni is good, I agree, but the quality at WP is superior in every way. You had the price wrong -- it's $95, not $90, and you failed to mention that they give away a pair of glasses with every pair you order. The WP glasses also looked as good on you as the ones at Zenni. This review is so ridiculously biased it's pathetic.
