Berdly is in my top 3 favorite characters at least. From my interpretation, his arrogance stems from all the pressure he feels to overperform, leading him to a life of stress; a life in which the expectations others have of him lead him to need to convince himself he's important. Really makes me feel bad for the guy, honestly. Not to mention he's also incredibly entertaining haha.
And fought harder and more seriously than when you fight him here in the normal route. AND refused to run even when he knew things were crazy fucked up -- he wanted to save his friend no matter what. *AND* then you throw in how, even if you DON'T help him in the Queen fight in the normal route, he pulls the damn plug off his face on his own in the end, knowingly and willingly sacrificing his arm in the process, *AND* gets in touch with the music trio to gather everyone together in the 11th hour to give you a chance against Giga Queen. People can say what they want about Berdly. Dude's a total meme with most his dialogue and humor, sure, but he's got a heart of gold under it all and is a truly good and strong person when all the chips are down. And as Queen herself said, he doesn't intend to be mean or offputting to anyone at all, he's got some kind of asperger's going on and literally cannot understand people's emotions or reactions to him -- he's just trying to be cool and likable in the only way he knows how. Say what you want -- Berdly is by far the most underrated character in Deltarune and as of CH2 he might just be my favorite.
@@bird_obsession Berdly reminds me a lot of me when I was a kid. I was a gifted child. I was constantly bombarded with praise by my family and teachers. Everything went to my head, and I treated my peers as lesser people because of it. I grew up without any friends and I only came to truly connect with people when I learned to suppress my ego and respect my peers. Scoring high on tests doesn't make me a better person, or even smarter! My friends have talents I can't even imagine replicating.
I hope for the love of god that no one really hates Berdly and people just joke about him. Because yeah, you could see him as annoying all you like, but in the end he's not that bad, he was actually pretty cool (i'm talking about his battle, look at his attacks, they're pretty neat!) and he cared for Noelle. I really don't understand how would you really dislike him, but to each their own.
kris is not letting us see their expression but we can figure out from what the other characters have to say about their condition "pissed off look" "why are you yelling" "why do they look so hurt" etc. More like shocked than surprised, they don't want any of this but being forced by the player to do this. They care about their childhood friend. After berdly fight in snowgrave you meet again with squad and ralsei will ask if they are feeling well which obviously isn't the case. Even the word silent is wrong since we force them to talk for us(except snowgrave,we influenced noelle and don't require kris to talk in our place). Noelle knows something is wrong from the beginning since kris suddenly became talkative(when you talk to her in chapter 1,kris is silent and doesn't involve themselves with anybody but we force them to do the opposite and do random shit and noelle is the only character that knows kris better than anyone),well she only truly knows we control kris once she can hear our voice. Such a short comment bruh
i love how we can see the player grin as soon as the tp bar is full and how kris seems to be struggling the longer the fight goes on clearly they dont like whatever is going on
Kris is trying to fight back but he's controlled by a maniac which is us the player. This one scene really says alot. Also by fighting back i mean not making it seem like's he's trying to say Snowgrave.
I have this theory/headcanon that we (the player) can't see Kris expressions or hear them, because we (the player) can only perceive them as a puppet, who cares about what our puppet feels or wants? It's only job is to obey us in being our empty vessel that let us be a part of this world (game)
@@Mi-dm2ks I think that's it. There's no other explanation.. But there are still unsolved answers like: How are we controlling Kris? Why did Kris get controlled and how? What was his life before we took control of him? It's just a loophole of questions. I hope they can get answered soon, as it is important to understanding the entire lore.
This is Berdly's best moment in the whole game. Showing that no matter what he'll always protect his best friend from any threat, even if it's another friend. Even when Noelle tells him to Run away, he still stands his ground because he knows he must stop you, even if it costs him his own life.
I think that when Noelle tells him to run away, he doesn't because he's too confident in his own abilities. He's still our arrogant yet average Berdly. He thinks he can stop it right here, right now, instead of running away and perhaps getting Queen or someone else to try and put a stop to it. If Berdly had been able to run away and convince Queen that Kris was a real threat and had to be stopped, perhaps they would have both survived. There's no way Kris would be able to stand up against the Giga Queen without a mech of his own, which would be impossible to get without Berdly organizing it.
True that also shows that original run was just like a plaything nobody took it seriously even Susie and Ralsei who were trying to be more seriouse but couldn't only time they stuff a little bit more seriouse was when Spamton was there so Snowgrave was actually something seriouse
Correction: best moment in this chapter. I get the feeling we'll probably see more of him in later chapters. However, anything from them will have some TOUGH competition with this scene
i really appreciate how disturbed kris was, and the commanding lips being a distinctly different color from kris'. really shows an understanding of player/character seperation.
Yeah, spooky stuff, I'm also under the belief that Kris isn't the one doing these things, that it's always been the player (us) that has been calling the shots, I mean wasn't that the lesson we were supposed to take home with the ending of the genocide route, that it's [our] determination.
@@linear1224 yeah, chara was portrayed as the villain in undertale but she was just doing what the player was, thinking that it was right. just as noelle thought she was getting stronger and nothing more
@@SleepingsGaming Yeah, but in the end it's you who actually kill everyone. Chara wasn't a good person and they always wanted to kill everyone, but it's _you_ who actually do it
I really like how Berdly instantly forgets trying to make himself look smart or superior when Noelle's genuinely frightened. He's just concerned for her and wants her to be safe. He's a good kid.
As Queen states to us, there’s nothing wrong with him, he’s just annoying. And I believe this shows how he cares for his friend more than just acting so smart in front of everyone.
It’s hard to imagine us being the final boss at the end of chapter 7. It could be, or maybe it will be some other villain. I don’t know how Toby could execute that in a game, the player that’s playing said game being a final boss in chapter 7? He’ll find some way though.
If anybody didn't notice by now, when Noelle lifts her hands you can see she's wearing the thorn ring and it's actually making her finger bleed. Nice attention to detail.
I love how Kris is visibly nervous, as they probably doesn't want to be doing this at all. They probably see Berdly as a friend, even though he does mock them for their level of intelligence.
In a way, this animation shows that Kris doesn’t want things to go as they are. But as we, the player, are in control, they have no way of stopping us.
Seeing Berdly's facial expressions whole he's getting killed and not just sprites make me feel so much worse. The way he doesn't even really look deathly afraid and more so worried and sad is what gets me... Good job on capturing the emotion. It was already a super dark and heavy moment before but I failed to really connect to it until now.
It didn't connect with me at first either. It took me until later to connect the idea when Spamton NEO specifically called us out on manipulating her, as well as the distinction between Kris calling for Susie and Ralsei's help VS "You", the player, whispering Noelle's name to help. Poor Kris is just here, unable to do anything.
This is probably the best and most accurate interpretation of this fight. Kris was never the villain in this route, but a puppet who was powerless to save Noel from the player. I love that it's shown that they are clearly uncomfortable with the whole situation, but doesn't have any control over their body to change the outcome. I also love that Noel casting Snowgrave isn't seen as something magical and beautiful, but utterly disturbing and horrifying with how her eyes go completely blank. It's brilliant
True, Kris is a souless husk, controlled by you. They don't want you to do what you make them do, So deltaune and Undertale kind of teach you to *be aware of what you do and what choices you make*
@@racim3443 I mean using it for herself without Kris’ command because it was shown that Kris basically commands his party mates Susie in chapter 1 having more arrogance to ignore Kris
@@racim3443 It wasn't Kris commanding, what she hears is US, the player giving her those commands in the real world, the voice when she hears "proceed" and "defend" are the player - us telling her what to do while everything Kris can do is watch
I LOVE the frames where the mouth is whispering “defend” and “proceed” and how it becomes increasingly clear how it isn’t Kris saying these words, but the player. The hand pressing a key on a keyboard to confirm Snowgrave sent chills down my spine. And of course that held moment where Noelle’s pupils go white and she’s frozen in place with her hands out, the few moments before the snow starts falling… Absolutely masterful.
I also kinda enjoy how the eye looks. The mouth is human, it's real, it's tangible and we can kinda sympathise or understand why it does what it does. It speaks the voice of curiosity. But the eye, it's so out-spaced from everything, the light illuminating the iris like an octopus, an eldritch being beyond the understanding of Kris. Beckoning for him and Noell to gain tension points. This is not to say "people who do snowgrave are unhuman", but to show us the absolute eldritch idea of what is must be like to be controlled from an outside source like kris is.
Berdly's reaction to when Noelle uses the Snowgrave spell is just... _devastating._ The look on his face just screams "This isn't the Noelle I know..." before she finally freezes him.
You can see the clear increasing despair of Berdly as the battle progresses, you can't win by just defending, and Berdly knows that, he knows you're preparing something, and him being unable to take Kris down just increases that despair even more, those faces of frustration and fear are exactly on point. Edit:Woah i've never gotten this many likes, thanks a lot
Arguably even worse is that if Berdly knows how battles work (and he clearly must do, since Noelle didn't and she needed it explained to her) then he knows that there is absolutely nothing he can do except try and take you out before you're finished preparing, because you still receive TP from just the act of defending even if Berdly doesn't attack you.
if he does defeat kris, he will say “Noelle, kris is gone...you can stop now.” or something like that but she wont...because it isnt kris telling her to do this but US the player
... Lv.... I wonder.... Are those the same?...... Noelle goes more crazy when she is raised by lv she wants to fight enemies....... Is lv even in deltarune L.O.V.E?
5:19 The way Noelle just looks for a second to see if there was a slim chance it never happened and Berdly is okay which is met with the frame shot of Berdly frozen to death as Noelle quickly turns away and gets up in total shock is depressing. Snowgrave is something horrific bro.
@@jestrel Snowgrave is a FATAL spell allowed usage thru the Thorn Ring. TL;DR, Noelle hit Berdley with a *metric fuckton* of JAGGED, ROCK HARD ICE AT MACH JESUS...in the middle of what amounts to a brief temporary Blizzard/Total Whiteout that her usage of Snowgrave creates.... He was absolutely torn to shreds & pulverized by the impact of Noelle's Snowgrave yet kept whole at the moment of death, all while suffocating all at the same time. Encased in what amounts to a self-incanted iceberg by Noelle. Berdley, to put it frankly, got absolutely *eviscerated* by an unfathomably large mass of ice, but in a way that forever preserved the very exact moment of his death. Imagine being encased in solid ice, every orifice and bit of space in your body filled with solid ice. Your nerves are absolutely SHREIKING in agonizing pain, as the skin is ripped & flayed clean off your body. The shots to the player's mouth, the reflection of the screen in their eyes? The slow use of Snowgrave, giving time to see Berdly's face and the flashback to the sprites when they were kids? Dang, this hurts and it's beautiful
Underrated part of this is how we only see Berdly’s disfigured body in the ice for only like a frame, so we can only see after affects of snow grave from Noelles perspective
Has anyone else noticed the weird parallel between Noelle casting a “spell she doesn’t know” and not being able to “spell a word she does know” at the spelling bee?
Not sure about this. The word she couldn't spell was December, which is her sister's name -- and it's implied that Dess went missing some years ago. Spamton says she used to reply to his "free friend finder" e-mails asking about her, but he could never find any trace of December Holiday. My suspicion is that's why she couldn't spell it.
Just when I thought the expressions on Kris were the highlight of this scene's rendition, the reaction of Berdly here just rolls up and freaking destroys me. Just the idea that he's so overtaken by his disappointment in that moment that he doesn't even show any fear for his life, it's... Too much. @@craycraywolf6726 I know next to nothing about this route, besides this fan animation, which I assume is fairly accurate to a scene from it. Spamton (Pacifist route) is the only Boss or enemy thus far that has given me a game over. I beat him on the 2nd attempt, but it was still a close call. Was not expecting him of all characters to be my first true challenge with the game.
When it pauses on Noelle with her white eyes for an almost uncomfortably long time thats what did it for me! This animation is amazing at driving in the horror aspect. Especially when she tries to look at berdly but quickly looks away, such a nice small detail that really shows how horrific the thing she did was, and how horrible this ordeal was for all parties involved. Definitely a favourite!
Jesus Christ, dude. This one is the most disturbing Snowgrave animation that’s come out, bar none. What really got me was how happy you made Berdly seem when he first saw Noelle, and how Noelle was digging in her hands throughout the whole encounter. Not to mention showing the player making the choices to push Noelle over the edge, and Kris looking on in silent terror. You definitely got a sub. Can’t wait to see what else you’ll make. Cheers.
@@Renatoojusticeiro --- no, it's The Player, Gaster didn't force Noelle to do this horrible shit, it was The Person who played the Snowgrave, aka you, me and probably most of people here, The Player have the chance to avoid doing this, they/he/she could just hit the "I'm protecting her from you" option... but The Player wanted to see the "Genocide Route" and fight the Spamton NEO like it's some sort of Sans, wanted to see the beloved character suffer, wanted to see world in despair after Chapter 1 take away that possibility... and you gonna take the fault on some magical man that maybe is unimportant in the full game, for the Player's crimes.
3:48 not even most horror movies I've seen have made me feel this combination of fear, un-comfortability, and genuine anxiety. You have a gift, this is horror. No Jumpscare, just unsettling imagery and silence after a build-up
I think when the game says "Noelle became stronger" or "You became stronger" What it really means is that your grip over the characters has become stronger. Little puppets that you can keep controlling for longer.
Chapter 2 was all about control. Snowgrave where you have a good little puppet that comes when you whisper, Spamtom in the normal route, Queen's gilded cage. Either way we control Kris.
Holy shit, this makes me even more guilty making Noelle freeze Berdley. Even more seeing how Kris is NOT on board with any of it whatsoever. The terror in their eyes is the same in Noelle's. Kris knows that Noelle is being controlled just as they are, and they are scared about what we will choose to make them do. Grade A animation dude, keep it up!
It makes you wonder, cause like, in the moments where Kris rips their soul out and goes "evil" mode, I wonder if they are truly not evil. I wonder if they care about the other characters when the player is not in control, and simply want to be free of their harness.
@@_TheDoctor Im pretty sure we as the player are the villain. We are the reason mainly Kris doesn't have free will. Especially in the genocide rout. We are making Kris and their friends do all these terrible things and Kris ripping out their heart is really just them wanting to have free will. I'm probably looking to much into it though lol
@@_TheDoctor It may not be Kris tearing our SOUL from their body. It might be someone else possessing him. It's implied that he began acting strangely before we even started playing.
@@_TheDoctor They are definitely not evil, they just want to take control of their own body again, and perhaps cry out for help to other characters, etc
Kris being so pained and saddened by this route shows that it really is the player doing this to them, to Noelle, to Berdly- the player is the one ruining their life
To be fair nothing weade him do back in chapter 1 affected his life negatively overall. This was manipulating him into manipulating his friend into killng his other friend is next level fucked up
As an artist, horror is hard to convey. Its not from jumpscares or loud bangs or action scenes, but from a sense of twisted reality that does not belong. Noelle's face is terrifying, not because its new or wonderous, but because we have gotten used to how it looks and seeing it in an eerie way frightens us. The silence is abnormal given how loud the video is normally and because the frame stays for so long, we feel uncomfortable. Kudos to the artist(s) for creating a wonderful piece of artwork that sent shivers down my spine. A beautiful piece of art that truly brings out the horror of Snowgrave. Long live the Snow Queen.
The added detail of seeing Kris crying is very powerful. Imagine someone having control over your body and forcing you to force one of your friends to kill their own friend. I can't imagine something more psychologically painful, I'm really excited to see the continuation of the snowgrave route in the next three chapters
I dont even remember that and I still thought the animation was amazing and intense...I wonder if I blocked that out or wasnt paying attention due to the severe insane and evil nature this person actually has and is even today...they aren't sad in real life about anything and beyond anyones wildest dreams on who they really are...it truly is one of the most worst things that has ever been and ever will be.
Kris does not want this, but the PLAYER does, the PLAYER is forcing Kris to say "Proceed" to Noelle, the PLAYER forces Noelle to cast Snowgrave, freezing and killing Berdly. This is a scary situation for the characters, even Kris.
@@greekifreekifan870 Yeah, many think Kris and the player are one and the same, which is weird considering the start of deltarune chapter 1 and the ends of chapter 1 and 2
The one thngthat would have been a little better is if Kris went down, because Noell could have said, "I can still hear their voice, because throughout the battle she's hearing The Player's voice. It's not even Kris. Though it's really implied, look at Noel's ear when the sound for selecting Snowgrave hits, and the look of total confusion Kris has at her outbursts. It's not Kris saying that.
3:26 the look of concern and terror on Kris's face really puts into perspective that they're not the one controlling their or Noelle's actions, it's YOU as the player. As the one controlling these characters, the blood is on YOUR hands. You're responsible for everyone's deaths.
I like the fact that when Noelle tells Berdly to run away, and when she says “Watch what happens when I cast a spell I don’t know!” her mouth is perfectly synced to the words. Adds more impact to those moments. Edit: Just noticed she also visibly says “Snowgrave” as well. Yeesh...
theres something so utterly beautiful about how the added (slight) bass boost to the sound effect at 4:20 amplifies the strength and power of noelle's magic. berdly was doomed from the start, and even noelle knew it.
I love how you even made Kris look disturbed by everything that's happening, showing that they don't want any of this to happen but they also don't have any control over these actions.
This made me realize just how fucked up snowgrave really is for everyone involved... The tension is palpable- the animations amazing and I'm so so so tense. Great work!
It does such a good job of showing how this is a path that no one in the story wants, but the tyrant controlling it's path, and how everyone is made a puppet to that desire...
The lip sync when she says “watch what happens when I cast a spell I don’t know!” is so incredibly well done. Honestly my favorite part of this. There’s so much emotion behind it and the fluidity of it makes it that much better. Holy shit my guys
Holy shit, i love how terrifying this is! The player's mouth saying "proceed" and "defend", Kris's expressions, frozen Berdly, everuthing in this animation is very well done and terrifying
To me, the shot of Kris at 4:55 just puts a hole in my stomach. The look of shock, but his body is still tense and ready from the players influence. Truly encapsulates the “unwilling puppet” feeling Kris is meant to have.
i love how clear it’s becoming that we the player are not kris. i’ve never played a game where it’s so apparent that the player character has their own clear intent that we might just disregard. such a great game, such and interesting topic
like you never wonder what master chiefs preferred gun is, because we’re never led to think of him as having that much agency, but kris is a complete different person with us controlling them and it’s clear to the world that that’s the case. and they way they answer whether or not they’re okay after the spamton neo fight. such a thought provoking game
@@beebo- It's so messed up too, I've never seen any other game make the Player themselves a character on their own with its own intentions. And after twisting together a ring of thorns, they put it on her right hand, and a watch of silver on her left; and they knelt down before her and mocked her, saying, “Hail, Queen of the Snow!”
spamton, jevil, and kris all tragic characters forced to the brink of insanity than past that edge by the knoweldge of the player and of their state as characters in a game, and now noelle, she can hear our commands now, without kris even saying them for us, her eyes are opening through her interaction with our puppet, kris, and noelle is significantly more powerful than kris, spamton or jevil, catching the attention of queen and being able to instantly kill any enemy with her spells, she was even able to freeze spamton neo when kris couldnt even damage spamton anymore, if noelle goes fully insane because of us going the snowgrave route, well thatll be one hell of a boss fight
That explains why they were friendly to each other at some times like Spamton and Kris already being friends and Kris being devastated after the pacifist fight
This explains ALOT This is why spamton wants Kris's soul, because neither does he This is why spamton like Kris, he knows that Kris is also in need of help This is why Kris gets sad after pacifist, he wanted spamton to help him, and when the player dies while fighting spamton, that would make Kris happy because he doesn't have those strings attactched to him anymore
If we think about it, being in Noelle's place would feel horrible. That a greater force forces you to do something you do not want. I would shit my pants.
It's not so much that it's forcing you to do something you don't want. But growing dependant on said force because you cannot imagine how to deal with things on your own Which is manipulation, precisely what snowgrave is about
the way that berdly doesnt even seem scared or try to defend himself, but he just stands there heartbroken adds to how horrifying this route is. he was fucked over since the beginning and everyone knew it. his best friend (and, by extension, only friend) is literally levitating, about to cast a fatal spell on him, and he doesn't even try to escape. he would quite literally rather die than run away while his friend gets hurt. honestly berdly is the biggest giga chad in this entire game like seriously bro just wants to protect his friend. the only reason he's the way he is is bc he forces himself to live up to impossible expectations. he just tries to seem likeable in the only way he knows how, because the only reason anyone ever gave him attention growing up was for his achievements, so he thinks that that's the only way people are gonna acknowledge his existence... poor dude was probably neglected. like he said NOBODY remembered his name until he won the spelling bee. queen is a whole ass robot and she STILL called him burghley because she didnt care about him enough to remember his name, he fr wasnt exaggerating huh? like in this fight he seriously gives it his all and refuses to back down because he doesn't want to see his friend get hurt. compared to the normal route, this fight in this route is harder because berdly just does not want to give in, because in this route he has something to lose. don't get me wrong, the concern is still present in the normal route, but in snowgrave it's just genuinely so much sadder. even if berdly doesn't show it very well he genuinely worries and cares about noelle and wants the best for her, dude just can't understand the emotions of other people. not his fault at all. like berdly was literally the one who came up with an actual plan to save noelle!!!!!!! say what you want but hes one of the most caring characters in the game, hes just not great at showing it in ways that everyone else appreciates. the whole reason he followed queen in the first place was because he thought that he would be able to create a perfect world for noelle and himself. queen used this as a way to manipulate him, with the ability to create a place that noelle could be happy in as a prize for doing her bidding. and its not even just noelle tbh. when you befriend him in the pacifist route and he gets plugged by queen, if you don't help him he WILLINGLY FRIES HIS ARM to PULL THE PLUG OFF HIS OWN DAMN FACE so he can help you. then he somehow gets in contact with sweetcap'ncakes and gathers all of the friends you made and proceeds to lead the creation of the WHOLE THRASH MACHINE so you can fight giga queen. not to mention he did this all with a fucked arm AND hardly any energy left. he would really do anything for his friends. seeing him knowing damn well he's fucked over because his best friend is literally levitating and about to kill him, but refusing to run away, defend himself or leave her side makes me feel like somebody just put my respiratory system under a hydraulic press. im literally drowning in a puddle of my own tears rn please help me. genuinely. this crushed me. i havent moved for an hour because i'm sitting here bathing in my own sorrow.
Noelle's finger bleeding because of the ring and her eyes going white just give me chills. She looks completely out of it when casting her spell, its so creepy and i love it, fantastic work on this!
3:25, I like how even Kris was creeped out by how the player was forcing THEM to force HER to use Snowgrave It just shows you who the real villain of the game is...
I wouldn’t call Kris really a good guy anymore either. If he hated our control that much in the beginning, why did he put us back in? Also that bit with the fountain, especially AFTER ralsei’s spiel in both routes, and putting us back in at the bathroom scene? That doesn’t seem right. If he could take us out whenever, why doesn’t he just leave us to rot away in the bathroom sink, or the couch? No, he pulls us out twice. Hell, I did the Snowgrave hoping he wouldn’t open a fountain, it was like, “well you probably hate my guts now for what I did, now you can’t open another fountain and have Darkeners turned to stone and awaken the Titans, ha ha ha!” NOPE. I don’t think Kris hates our “control” (even though I still believe that we play as Kris like in a play where you didn’t get the role you wanted, you were made to play as someone else) as much as other people originally believed.
@@michelleswondrousvideos2784 The way Kris shambled after every single soul pullout, it's very likely that they can only very barely survive without it - they had trouble simply WALKING. So them keeping us (the player) in control is more of a compromise until they find a better way, methinks.

If he’a really a “good” guy, why would he slash his own Mother’s car tires, especially if there was no school the next day? Why would he put us back in? In the beginning of Chapter 2, interacting with the bird cage states: “when the door is closed, there is NO escape”. So we wouldn’t have escaped back to Kris at the end of Chapter One. Kris pulled us out. True, the shambling is off, but I think there’s something else going on there rather than Kris being weakened from yanking out our soul and chucking us into a bird cage like a baseball pitcher, and he wouldn’t take us out of the sink either. Not if he hates our control that much. Now that I know who, or what Kris really is, I’m not so keen on him either. Really, it would be best to leave the soul in either places and find help. That reminds me actually: in chapter one or chapter two, Kris doesn’t warn people about “other worldly beings who control my body and I’m forced to do what they say”, he warns about the dark world. Saying how people could fall in and get hurt. (But now I’m forced to question why he’s been opening up fountains if he’s that worried. He wants this chaos, to destroy the world, so what would be the point of “reporting a dark world” to the cops? Unless he’s screwing around and messing with people, knowing they won’t take him seriously. That’s probably it).
(I realize now I accidentally made the same spiel on another comment in this comment section and even I was like, “Shit, I’m repeating myself aren’t I (to anyone who saw that, thanks to whoever (hopefully) deleted it and I’m sorry and I’m embarrassed🍪🍪🍪 Here Are three apology cookies).
Wow I can't believe someone made a fully animated version, with THIS quality in such a short amount of time. You captured everything perfectly, kris's reaction to OUR messed up actions and Berdly's expressions are great. Really good job I loved it.
I love the details in this animation, like the part where Noelle finally stops hiding her ring finger. She’s far too afraid to speak up for herself, or rather, she’s afraid of the player. (I mean technically kris cuz yk she doesn’t know we’re controlling them) but it shows that she sacrifices so much to please others, and she turns a blind eye and even seems to be ashamed of her own needs. She hides the ring and her pain, even though it’s growing even tighter around her finger to the point that it bleeds.
Yo the style looks like its straight from some obscure 80's psychological horror anime, the whole animation has a very unnerving tone and I love it, fits percectly, amazing job
This is incredible. It captures the horror of this scene very well. Kris's expressions especially make my heart hurt. They didn't want to take a part in any of this. And they have to watch as you force their childhood friend into killing someone that she cares about.
you captured berdly really well! i’ve never seen him portrayed this kid-like, especially considering they are in fact teenagers. It really plays in to the fact that even though Berdly is an annoying ass, he was still just a kid.
4:16 Berdly saying something along those line like "I'm sorry", and you proceeded with, not only the normal sound effect for the snowgrave attack, but you bass boosted it, just to show how enormous the power of that attack is. What a madlad. I'm speechless.
And the best part is that i'm sorry is directed to Noelle. Not the player or Kris(If you played the normal or pacifist route you'll probably know what im talking about)
This is six whole minutes of some of the best animation I've seen on youtube in a while. The part where she's just standing there, frozen, with her arms out, is horrifying and it's perfect. I hate player's voice in the best way possible. I'd go and far as to say this is the best deltarune animation I've ever seen. Truly a masterpiece.
Quite the interesting thought, the game punishes you for YOUR actions, toby is just showing you the monster you really are.. (not you specifically btw)
I've always seen the exact opposite, fans talk about how horrible it is for the player to do Genocide or Snowgrave but not for someone to create those routes in the first place.
amazing sound design and shots in this WOW. i especially love kris's face cutting away to the player's voice, plus the echoing CLANG when berdly's attacks hit their shield
Thanks a lot! ✨ I really wanted to experiment with composition and sound design, how I could push the story and message further, glad you paid conscious attention to it!
I just newly discovered this SnowGrave route, and I genuinely cannot believe how quickly it turns dark. Toby is going beyond "Killing beloved characters" now, you're actively able to hurt, and psychologically manipulate them into doing things that they wouldn't do otherwise. I really, REALLY hope he expands on this in the full game, because it sets a good message on how abusers tend to act toward their victims, and how easily it can all go down hill if you let it. There's something to be said for the player FINDING such a route, which you could chalk up to pure, utter curiosity (because you view them as just pixels on a screen), but at the same time, its something, someone, somewhere, actually would be vile enough to do of their own volition. A good question on if our curiosity is evil, or is it the equivalent of taking a sunglass to an anthill. I loved this animation, and it captures the pseudo horror aspect of it all. A sub has been earned to say the least lol
The whole community teamed up to figure it out within a day and then within another day there was an animation of Noelle and Kris default dancing at Berdly’s corpse
You can tell Toby as a kid always felt guilty for the main character’s death whenever he died in a video game which is probably why he portrays the player as the villain all the time lol
Similar story with Dan Salvato (the creator of Doki Doki Literature Club). In one of his dev commentary streams, he mentions how when he was younger, he would watch his friends play games like the sims and they would torture the characters by trapping them in pools or tiny rooms. He said that those types of experiences really impacted him. For his friends it was funny and silly, but it was rather morbid for him. I don't wanna spoil Doki Doki Literature Club, but you can definitely see how it inspired the attitude of the game's main antagonist.
I love this entire animation, with such clever details. The thorn ring on Noelle's finger causing her to bleed, Noelle realizing Kris isn't talking to her, Kris crying as they watch the player pressure Noelle into casting Snowgrave, and the flash of Noelle and Berdly from when they were children right before Snowgrave is initiated, these details are what I love so much.
Almost a year after playing this route, my breathing stopped when the Snow fell, that melody... that melody haunts me. To me it is the melody of no return. It has been done.
The note progression of that Snowgrave chime is legitimately unsettling. Like you KNOW you're about to die, but you're afraid inside of JUST how violently painful it will be...
@@frederickglass1583 I've lost track of time, I suppose 3 years now given when my comment was posted. is Deltarune out yet? the guy who convinced me to play this game was a huge gas lighter, and turned out to be a pedo. I love the part where Kris's eyes aren't defined, signifying how the players in control with a controlled expression, while when Kris looks more concerned their eyes are red and you can see them, Kris's worry taking over for just a moment
2:40 this is where I realized Kris wasn’t the one giving the orders in this animation. Didn’t expect anyone to actually follow the source material so honestly!
I had a different version of that dialogue. Before Noelle left my party, I had taken her Silver Watch and put it on Kris. Apparently this carried over when I left the dark world, I literally stole her watch. So after visiting her and her dad at the hospital, when Kris caught up with her in the hall, she goes, in shaking letters, "Why are you wearing... my watch? When... Did you..." "In your dream." I felt like a terrible person throughout this run, but that was where I felt like a villain.
@@naominerd4075 god damn I only stole the watch cause I thought nothing of it and I wanted more graze time and I wasn't even trying to do the worse route now I feel like I have to do it all over again even if I just wanted graze time
The cut to the player hitting a button, and that kris looked shocked at what we had done really sells the fear and tone of the scene that they were trying to set.
i think it’s interesting that kris is surprised when noelle uses the spell because kris has their own emotions and feeling. it was the player who told noelle to kill her friend
@@bluphenyx Exactly even in chara's case the player is the one doing it. the end of the undertale genocide run was Chara expressing her anger at the fact that you brought her back and made her watch her friends die and then everyone is just like "ChaRa WhYyYY!"
@@apersonthatsucksatnames1133 That's exactly it, and I think that's why Snowgrave doubles down on it. Toby probably thought players would get the hint (and Chara outright says it multiple times that "you pushed the world to its edge") so he made it absolutely undeniable this time around.
Maybe cause I haven’t scrolled far enough but I haven’t seen people mention how cool those shield sounds are and how the blue chicken (forgot his name sorry) seems so hopeless, all of them. It’s like impending doom. They’re all just one pantomime, the world and all! Oh, and the ring of thorns making her bleed, it’s like she is resisting it? But finally lets loose at the end with her outrage of what “Kris” is making her do.
The line "Run away!" has always kept a place in my heart. It shows that in just 2 words Noelle is doing something she cannot control, and that soon it can grow to terrible amounts and kill Berdly.
I really, really love that you made Kris look scared and shocked by what’s happening. How they get more and more frightened when the TP reaches 100% - they know that SOMETHING bad is going to happen. I love the little glimpses of the player. I love Berdly’s expressions, the way he looks like the kid he is when Snowgrave is cast. He looks almost like he’s in disbelief. And Noelle’s creepy, blank expression when she actually casts it. Holy shit.
I really want to see Deltarune play more into Kris being controlled by the player but them still reacting to what they're forced to do - the cut between Kris and the horrific grey mouth was just chilling - as if it was the vessel you created at the beginning of the game

Everyone gives Berd a lot of shit, but he still dropped everything to protect his friend, even against someone he thought of as a friend.
I love the detail of Kris, a silent character who doesn't express themselves really at all, is surprised at snowgrave
kris is not letting us see their expression but we can figure out from what the other characters have to say about their condition "pissed off look" "why are you yelling" "why do they look so hurt" etc.
Such a short comment bruh
i love how we can see the player grin as soon as the tp bar is full and how kris seems to be struggling the longer the fight goes on
clearly they dont like whatever is going on
Kris is trying to fight back but he's controlled by a maniac which is us the player.
It's like ... Sans who don't know to give up yet.

Not sure about this. The word she couldn't spell was December, which is her sister's name -- and it's implied that Dess went missing some years ago. When it pauses on Noelle with her white eyes for an almost uncomfortably long time thats what did it for me! This animation is amazing at driving in the horror aspect. It's the Gaster and not the player in Deltarune

Now this makes me wonder what the next chapters hold for possible genocide routes (maybe not Noelle but someone else)
I think when the game says "Noelle became stronger"
or "You became stronger"
What it really means is that your grip over the characters has become stronger. Little puppets that you can keep controlling for longer.
Chapter 2 was all about control. Snowgrave where you have a good little puppet that comes when you whisper, Spamtom in the normal route, Queen's gilded cage.
Either way we control Kris.
Great theory. It does make a lot of sense
That's why their hp increases, your control makes them keep fighting for longer
Pretty sure it's just about their LV going up in the dark world or something similar.
I love puppets
Especially in the genocide rout. the way that berdly doesnt even seem scared or try to defend himself, but he just stands there heartbroken adds to how horrifying this route is. he was fucked over since the beginning and everyone knew it. his best friend (and, by extension, only friend) is literally levitating, about to cast a fatal spell on him, and he doesn't even try to escape. he would quite literally rather die than run away while his friend gets hurt.
honestly berdly is the biggest giga chad in this entire game like seriously bro just wants to protect his friend. the only reason he's the way he is is bc he forces himself to live up to impossible expectations. he just tries to seem likeable in the only way he knows how, because the only reason anyone ever gave him attention growing up was for his achievements, so he thinks that that's the only way people are gonna acknowledge his existence... poor dude was probably neglected. like he said NOBODY remembered his name until he won the spelling bee. queen is a whole ass robot and she STILL called him burghley because she didnt care about him enough to remember his name, he fr wasnt exaggerating huh?
like in this fight he seriously gives it his all and refuses to back down because he doesn't want to see his friend get hurt. compared to the normal route, this fight in this route is harder because berdly just does not want to give in, because in this route he has something to lose. don't get me wrong, the concern is still present in the normal route, but in snowgrave it's just genuinely so much sadder. even if berdly doesn't show it very well he genuinely worries and cares about noelle and wants the best for her, dude just can't understand the emotions of other people. not his fault at all. like berdly was literally the one who came up with an actual plan to save noelle!!!!!!! say what you want but hes one of the most caring characters in the game, hes just not great at showing it in ways that everyone else appreciates. the whole reason he followed queen in the first place was because he thought that he would be able to create a perfect world for noelle and himself. queen used this as a way to manipulate him, with the ability to create a place that noelle could be happy in as a prize for doing her bidding.
and its not even just noelle tbh. when you befriend him in the pacifist route and he gets plugged by queen, if you don't help him he WILLINGLY FRIES HIS ARM to PULL THE PLUG OFF HIS OWN DAMN FACE so he can help you. then he somehow gets in contact with sweetcap'ncakes and gathers all of the friends you made and proceeds to lead the creation of the WHOLE THRASH MACHINE so you can fight giga queen. not to mention he did this all with a fucked arm AND hardly any energy left. he would really do anything for his friends.

@@Levyafan But he still wouldn’t be able to climb out the window, as it would take a lot of upper body strength, and then slash tires.

Couldnt agree more, well put!
"Frozen"Very poor choice of words there buddy XD
Best animation ? It’s good indeed, but not the best at all
@@eudacye709 Really?? What's the best one in your opinion? (I'm not trying to be snarky or anything I genuinely wanna know!)

People do be saying "wtf Toby" for making the scene. But they never say "wtf player" for activating the scene.
Quite the interesting thought, the game punishes you for YOUR actions, toby is just showing you the monster you really are.. (not you specifically btw)
@@levisargent6430 for me snowgrave route show how fountain creatures hypocrisy
I said this and I’ll say it again on the final neo fight
“Kris called for help”
Nobody comes
“YOU whisper for noelle”
She comes
I've always seen the exact opposite, fans talk about how horrible it is for the player to do Genocide or Snowgrave but not for someone to create those routes in the first place.
@@TriforceWisdom64 I mean it’s you and Toby made it clear
amazing sound design and shots in this WOW. i especially love kris's face cutting away to the player's voice, plus the echoing CLANG when berdly's attacks hit their shield
Thanks a lot! ✨ I really wanted to experiment with composition and sound design, how I could push the story and message further, glad you paid conscious attention to it!
Yoo polyhex what a suprise
weird seeing you here. again.
Hey there, not gonna lie you are one of my favorite developers! I used to play SBS a lot!
Ok but seriously
*Why does Berdly look adorable in this style?*
I wouldnt say he looks very adorable while.... frozen..
hes blueberd
He do doe
To make it more painful
Deep but I feel like he does it because it's the truth
Similar story with Dan Salvato (the creator of Doki Doki Literature Club). In one of his dev commentary streams, he mentions how when he was younger, he would watch his friends play games like the sims and they would torture the characters by trapping them in pools or tiny rooms. He said that those types of experiences really impacted him. For his friends it was funny and silly, but it was rather morbid for him. I don't wanna spoil Doki Doki Literature Club, but you can definitely see how it inspired the attitude of the game's main antagonist.
Well only in the genocide routes. (Which would be the ideal path for rpg's)
Or just like what the guy above me said how in almost all RPGs your forced to murder in order to get stronger with no absolute consequence
Well you can choose to be villain or hero
I love this entire animation, with such clever details. The thorn ring on Noelle's finger causing her to bleed, Noelle realizing Kris isn't talking to her, Kris crying as they watch the player pressure Noelle into casting Snowgrave, and the flash of Noelle and Berdly from when they were children right before Snowgrave is initiated, these details are what I love so much.

Concordo, ficou muito bom :)
tenho que concordar.
Almost a year after playing this route, my breathing stopped when the Snow fell, that melody... that melody haunts me.
To me it is the melody of no return.
It has been done.
i haven’t even played the game but that sound. it sounds like a black hole’s event horizon in my mind
I haven't even looked back at these games yet because idek if it was them that wanted me to enjoy the game, or if I truely enjoyed the game on my own terms.
I love how Noelle is slowly noticing that the voice telling her what to do is not Kris's voice
The frostbite and decay around the ring on Noelle’s finger is SUCH A GOOD DETAIL
This gives a whole new meaning to Kris's line "It wasn't a dream" at the end of the run.
It's OUR line, not Kris'
I had a different version of that dialogue.
Before Noelle left my party, I had taken her Silver Watch and put it on Kris.
Apparently this carried over when I left the dark world, I literally stole her watch.
So after visiting her and her dad at the hospital, when Kris caught up with her in the hall, she goes, in shaking letters,
"Why are you wearing... my watch? When... Did you..."
"In your dream."
I felt like a terrible person throughout this run, but that was where I felt like a villain.
It was the players line it was never Kris' and never will be neither will our actions
@@naominerd4075 god damn I only stole the watch cause I thought nothing of it and I wanted more graze time and I wasn't even trying to do the worse route now I feel like I have to do it all over again even if I just wanted graze time
They never get to say that line, susie interrupts
The cut to the player hitting a button, and that kris looked shocked at what we had done really sells the fear and tone of the scene that they were trying to set.
That isnt kris's's mouth
@@Wack910 oh, yeah
i think it’s interesting that kris is surprised when noelle uses the spell because kris has their own emotions and feeling. it was the player who told noelle to kill her friend
Toby made sure there was no mistake this time, unlike Chara. Toby made sure you knew it was all your fault.
@@bluphenyx Exactly even in chara's case the player is the one doing it. the end of the undertale genocide run was Chara expressing her anger at the fact that you brought her back and made her watch her friends die and then everyone is just like "ChaRa WhYyYY!"
"friend" looks like free xp to me
@@apersonthatsucksatnames1133 That's exactly it, and I think that's why Snowgrave doubles down on it.
I think it makes her bleed just because it drains her HP to 55 in battle
The line "Run away!" has always kept a place in my heart. It shows that in just 2 words Noelle is doing something she cannot control, and that soon it can grow to terrible amounts and kill Berdly.
Everyone is talking about the animation. But people don’t realize the AMAZING sound design in this video. BIG THUMBS UP
Not to dismiss the quality, but these are all SFX from the game
Not all
I really, really love that you made Kris look scared and shocked by what’s happening.
