- In today's video, I hit the road in my van to pick up my trusty Honda CB500X from the garage. After some much-needed maintenance, it's time to get the bike ready for the exciting travels ahead! I'll take you along on the journey, share some insights on the upgrades, and talk about my upcoming adventures.

A lot of bike trailer, especially in the USA, have a fowrard mechanism to grab the front wheel and stop it moving any further forward. Could be a good idea to find one of those and weld / bolt it to the van floor. With the van bulkhead removed, in the event of a 50 mph van smash, you don't want the bike moving forwards on you. Check it out.

So glad you have him back. I learned to ride back in 1980. I had my first wreck this past Easter Sunday. Was a solo event, turning right on red (US and legal), no traffic coming and rear tire slid out like I was on ice. All the gear all the time, except this time 😞. Only had jeans on instead of my armored ones. I had helmet, gloves, armored jacket and boots. Just a little road rash on my right knee. That will learn me. Anyway, you just have to get back on and push through. I'm always inspired at how you push through and won't be stopped. You're an inspiration to us all. Keep it up Saffy!
I would like to say to you that my experience with life is that you always hurt yourself whether physically or psychologically. The test is that each time it happens you pick yourself up and forge on through the pain. You will develop a toughness and grit, regain your confidence, and become resilient. All of us go through very hard things to deal with during our lives, it is what you do during the hard times that prepare you to enjoy the goo's times.

We use the same motorcycle workshop. I really like Bob, he's a bit of a character. He had a heart attack once during an off-road race. But he finished the race first then went to hospital. I'm wondering why you're worried about getting back on the Honda. It's the same as riding your Suzuki - unless it's too tall for you. If it is you could either get a lower seat or flog it and get a lower bike, no point struggling.
She associates the bike with the accident- it’s a mental thing rather than physical, I’ve been there myself.

I haven't been following u closely as in the gear you wear, but now u'v had first hand injury experience, ya silly duffa😂, have you invested in one of those AirVests? Like the motogp and other racers use.
Injuries are one of those things to avoid, if possible, and l might get one myself. Like all of us, we live in this world and we all get a few bumps, scratches and breaks, (maybe not all get things broken..)
AND, u are no id-jut or cursed. You are are clever, and semi sort of maybe a bit cute-ish, but neither of the above 2 u said.

I’ve been looking into those AirVests after my recent mishap, and they’re definitely on my radar now. Safety first, right? We all take our bumps and bruises, but if I can avoid more of them, I’m all for it. Appreciate the advice, and I’ll do my best to stay safe out there. I'm glad you got your Nordkapp motorcycle home. Confidence can be dangerous on a motorcycle. Know yourself, know your motorcycle and be aware of your surroundings. You will be doing well.

I met the modern bikers on my camping trip to Harz on my SV650. One had a van and a caravan, two others a mobile home. All of them bringing a motorcycle with them. They liked to talk about biking and the tools they packed in their panniers when riding, but I did not see any of these bikes being used outside the camp site during the three days I stayed there. They all seemed quite new to motorcycles. The only other motorcycle I saw at my camp sites was a Gold Wing with a trailer. Is traditional motor cycle camping dying?

I would expect that, rather than being bent, the forks had simply twisted slightly out of line in the yokes. It's very common and very easy to loosen the yokes and re-align them.

Like you I had a mini once I passed my test after riding bikes for a few years and had to drive a works transit which was a nightmare to start with. You have to learn to adapt very quickly 🤣
But 50 plus years ago there wasn't as much traffic on the roads.

Getting to the end of the summer and the best weather is normally found in the south. I know there is an equivalent of the nc500 in the southwest . Not to far but far enough for an adventure

if you want, in in May & June 2025 I do an Iberica tour with my CB500X (Lola) and I will ride all the way to the ABR. That is about 9,000 Km. After the ABR, I will do the Lake district & the Peak District before going back home to Ireland. If you wan to join at any of it, you are most welcome.

I have to admit, the camper van is a lot of fun, but there’s still nothing like the thrill of hitting the road on the bike.
You look great wearing glasses. Do you wear glasses riding? Sun glasses move around on me in my helmet, and try to avoid using them, but sometimes are a necessary.
Hey there! 😊 Thanks for the compliment! I do wear glasses when riding, and I totally understand the struggle with sunglasses in a helmet. It can be a bit tricky to keep them in place. I’ve found that some riding-specific glasses or goggles with a secure fit can make a big difference, although I must admit, mine never really last that long..... but they do help keep the wind and sun out without shifting around. Hope that helps! Stay safe and ride on! 🏍️😎🕶️
@@SaffySprocket I wear glasses so bought a helmet with a built-in, flip down sun visor. They are no more expensive that helmets without the sun visor these days.

Confidence in a bike is a combination of the size of the bike; the size of the rider compared with bike; the height of the seat; the length of the rider’s legs compared with the height of the seat; the weight of the bike; the weight of the rider compared with bike; the power of the bike; the power of the bike compared with abilities of rider.
Some smaller riders can master a taller, heavier and more powerful bike. But like everything in life, it takes hours of practice, and practice that challenges the rider’s abilities.
It’s not just playing safe riding a smaller, lighter, less powerful bike, it’s often the MOST SENSIBLE thing to do.
The vast majority of modern bikes are too big and too heavy - unnecessarily heavy. I’m 66 and I don’t like any of the modern adventure style bikes. Even the 400s and 650s are too heavy.
My solution is that I’m designing my own CCM 604 frame based lightweight adventure bike, but that’s not an option for most people.
The sensible solution therefore is to go down in capacity (and as a result, weight too), and ride the bike you can easily handle in a wide range of situations and conditions.
