There aren't many books compared to what you've read so you've done really well. I'm not a fan of the series, but Fury of the Gods would be top of the list because it's nice to get a series finished. Wind and Truth would be good, too, but it's about 4000 hours on audiobook and that's a lot at this time of year. My personal fave of these is Best Served Cold (surprise). It's about a motley crew on a revenge mission in Styria. Some of the characters feature a bit in The First Law, but most of them are new. It's not really a festive season book, so maybe one for next year. I hope you and Kirsten enjoy your buddy read. The Poison Song was the weakest of the series, for me, particularly the way some things wrapped up, but you might have a different take. I didn't make any plans so I can't get called out :) but I might try making some next year.
I'm currently reading The Fury of the Gods, so hopefully I will complete that one prior to the end of the year. I just got Wind and Truth on audio! 🥳 (I am still waiting for City of Blades, which I am quite irritated by. Usually, my library doesn't take this long for a hold.) I can't wait to continue with Abercrombie. Sad to hear that Poison Song wasn't a win. I was definitely hoping the ending would smash it out of the park. We shall see.
Hope you enjoy Teller of Small Fortunes! Sadly the cat doesn't talk and plays a fairly minor role, but it was still fun to have a cat in there. Ooh I've got Daughters' War on my TBR in December! I've heard it's way darker than Blacktongue Thief so it'll be interesting to see how it goes. Hopefully you enjoy it when you get to it! I'm trying to cram a bunch of my 24 in 2024 in December, I definitely need to make some changes to that next year so I actually get to more of them. 😅
The cat was a fun element of the story, but I was bummed she didn't talk. 🤣 Good luck getting to your 24 in 2024. It's always a mad dash to the end of the year.
🥳 It will be a good time! I'm bummed I didn't finish The Girl in the Bog while I had it. It did seem like it was going to be interesting. It was a slower read, but I just need to make time to sit with it.
I hit some goals last year, but kind of forgot about others. So my strategy this year, is that I cleared two shelves and put all my goal books there - it's right by my desk so I see them all the time and won't be able to forget.
Love this video idea! I just wanted to share that I have read House of Frank and LOVED it, it is a warm hug of a book, but also have some tissues because it got me multiple times.
Wonderful video Dann! I am determined to read some Grimdark Fantasy next year and Abercrombie seems a great place to start. The Girl In The Bog sounds intriguing! Unpopular opinion- Frankenstein is just mediocre for me. I would recommend starting with The Color Out Of Space or The Shadow Over Innsmouth with Lovecraft, both excellent tales. Kick in the butt- read Lovecraft! 🤣 Hope you have a happy December Danni! 📚
Cliff, I do think you will enjoy Abercrombie. Great character work and a dark setting, what's not to love. Good to know about Lovecraft. It's nice to have an insiders opinion as I am definitely flying blind. Hope your end of year is going well!
Don't say you are ashamed for having a TBR book on your shelf for over a year. Because then I would have to look at my own shelf of TBR books that have been sitting for far longer and I don't want to do that! 😅🤣
I also had The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas on my 24 to read in 2024, and i also didn't get to it for the same reason as you. How about we buddy read it in 2025 to give us some extra motivation
That book is in the running for a translated work for the podcast, so it will depend on whether or not it gets selected. Of course, I would love to chat with you about it regardless!
I want to give a word of caution regarding Ship of Magic, since we seem to have quite similar reading tastes (albeit not a complete one to one, as I don't like Brando Sando, grim dark or horror). I have been stuck 140 pages into that book since November 2020 because I cannot stand any of the characters that I met in that book. As a huge fan of pirate stories (One Piece, Pirates of the Caribbean and Treasure Planet all being some of my favorite stories in their respective media), I was super hyped to read a very character focused pirate story with a female protagonist and magic ships. But then Hobb went out of her way to write one of the most unlikable female protagonists I have ever met (think Janel from Chorus of Dragons, but worse, imo). Super arrogant, vastly hypocritical and very dumb, all while being presented as this martyr of a character that we are supposed to love and root for. I am additionally miffed at Hobb because she _can_ write really cool and deep and flawed female characters - Lady Patience is easily my favorite character in the Farseer trilogy. To add insult to the injury, Hobb decided to create a pirate captain without a single drop of charisma. What even is the point of having an uncharismatic pirate captain in a story?? Sacrilege, I say! And then there's a creepy religious kid. There's also supposed to be at least two more perspectives, but I haven't gotten to them yet - that of a young girl that most of the reading community agrees that she is very annoying and of a ship, which is supposed to be the coolest one. If the mystery presented in Assassin's Quest (which is actually my favorite book in the Farseer trilogy - unpopular opinion, I know 😆, minus the disturbing choices Hobb made at the end) wasn't so intriguing and the mystery fan in me wasn't begging me to figure it out, I would have dnf-ed this series oh so long ago... Sorry for an essay of a reply 😅but I thought it might be useful to let you know, as a fellow character driven reader, what is waiting for you in that series 😊
Wow! Thank you so much for the information! We shall see how I feel as I read it. It may be a series that I skip and just read the Fitz books. 🤣 I do love pirate stories (recently I have absolutely love Amina in The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi as well as Delilah Bard and Alucard in the Darker Shades series). It is unfortunate that the characters may not be something to look forward to in Liveship Traders as that is one thing I typically can rely on Hobb to do well.
Hi Dani, I've had books on my TBR for 8 years, plus. Most I have donated, but I still have too many.
You are so creative. 💐 📚
Great video!🌼🌸🌻🪷🪻🥀🌹🌺

I've had Frankenstein on my TBR all year for a Bookemon prompt. Maybe next year! LOL
🤣 This is so relatable!
So excited for our buddy read!! It's going to be so fun 😊
Im still so interested in The Girl in the Bog, it sounds good
🥳 It will be a good time!

I love that idea, Tennille! Front of mind gets the job done. At least we hope so. 🤣

Thank you so much! Ahh! Good to know. I love a warm hug of a book, especially if there are some emotional moments within. I'm excited!

🌸 I was supposed to read Frankenstein this year. 🙄
Right there with you. 🤣
Read Frankenstein!!! It's so good!!! I recently got the annotated edition and am hoping to reread it next year
I really need to. I think it is going to be fantastic.
Oh I also want to read House of Frank. It sounds really good.
It sounds so cute!
yayyyy so glad I was able to help get one book off your list!
I am grateful for you friend!
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Frankenstein, and maybe one other book.
Hello John! It is so good to hear from you. I'll let you know when I get to Frankenstein. I hope you are well!

Don't do it witchy! 🤣 Having books on our TBR for a long time just means we have more options when we don't know what to read, right?
When you say you gave up Liveship Traders, I cried.
I haven't given up completely. I just don't think it was the right time!
@@Danni.Dabbles hang onto it. I believe in you! 😂😂
I don't blame you. I gave up on that years ago. I did try. It's ok ❤@@Danni.Dabbles
