Ya I spent $1600 on my 14k 3mm Franco. Same chain at Trax is a little over 3 grand. Keep in mind they will live chat and give a better deal but not 50 percent off.
The average 14k assay When I send mixed scrap to the refinery comes back .550 to .570 with 14k being .583-.585 . Each Karat is 4.16% gold content . 10k = .416 .
To help those who don’t understand precious metals - all precious metals are measured in the Troy measurement system . A troy ounce or OZT on your scale = 31.1 grams not 28 . Also on your scale is DWT is a pennyweight (1.55 grams) 20 DWT = 1 troy ounce . To figure the melt value of gold take spot gold
($1800) x purity (.583 for 14k) divided by 31.1 to get grams or 20 to get DWT
1800x.583 % 31.1= $33.74 per gram of 14k
1800x.417 % 31.1= $24.13 per gram of 10k

Also worth noting if it is old jewelry it could have iridium mixed in and it be really hard to tell say 1-2% overall content. Back in the 70-90s when iridium was much cheaper than gold but indiscernible without an actual assay . Now iridium (a platinum group metal) is around $6k per ounce which is triple gold .
When you see .900 platinum the other .10 is iridium. If it is .950 the other .050 is ruthenium which is also PMG but is cheaper than platinum. With iridium valued at 6k per ounce and platinum at $935 the .10 iridium content is almost worth as much as the .90 of platinum.

When I buy gold I try to make sure it says kp but that's sometimes hard to find. Its sad we have to get work done in places like China to keep cost down but I get it gotta go where it can be done profitable that's why most companies gos over seas. Great video

If you want to invest in gold that's great just don't do it buying a jewelry piece what this guy fails to mention every time is that he charges 400-500 600% markup gold would have to go up another $1,500 just for you to break even on the market he charges you're better off just buying gold bars there's only a $2 premium think about it Vevo take a 20 g gold chain that's 14k and Mark it up to $2,500 there's only $675 worth of gold in that chain 😉 so the gold would have to go up drastically just for you to break even if you wanted to sell that chain that's why when he says about buying a gold chain as an investment piece that's a bunch of b******* it's not a good idea buy a gold bar

It’s because the alloys used. Big production companys are more likely to be bang on with purity content on every piece of metal they selling. But if it’s a small company or one man show, they alloy each bit of gold they cast and it could be out half a percent each way, which is acceptable but 1% or more the purity is off, that’s not acceptable. In uk we used the hallmark standard to test n trace jewellery from production but each assay office is independent and imports f*** the whole trade up.
I personally buy already alloyed stock bullion to forge and shape and created my peices. The bedroom bench 80% for output.

Watch out for the old xrf machines because they can not penetrate through the thick gold plating on vintage jewelry so you will get false positives or non standard karot readings on eome xrf machines.
The xrf funds work the best ive learned over time from using them eo much.

Anywhere from the drug dealers and firefighters and cops to 65 year old white ladys to regular middle and upper class families.
