Mike Ferris is incredible ! From his work with his first band ' Screamin Cheetah Wheelies' to his Gospel stuff .What a set of pipes ! He also plays with a great organ player- Brother Paul. Thanks for this, Joe. Nice playing too !
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum You could have turned up your Strat a bit. 😊. You sounded great, though. Mr Shaffer must have been a blast to jam with. Like you, I liked the Deep Purple version the best 💜 Have to share this one!! Keep them coming!!
That was incredible!!! Just awesome! Wow! A Joe South monster hit played by the Swampers! And Joe on guitar. Some fine playing there Joe!! Flawless. And I wonder when the whole world will realize the impact and the excellence of Mr. Paul Shaffer? He will go down in history as one of the best who ever played the keys. He's everywhere. He's at every major musical event, it seems. What a talent.
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum You're so humble being as talented as you are, and all that work you put into that Musicians Hall of Fame. Great song and performance , and SO cool seeing Paul Shaffer playing on the keyboards.I watched it twice.

"It's my party and I'll play if I want to." I laughed out loud at that one. That song got lots of play on the turquoise jukebox in the base canteen in Korea in 1963. Great job to all the artists on this video.
Thanks Pete…. I didn’t deserve to be on the same stage as those guys but I just wanted to play with Paul on that song. It had been 8 years since I played guitar and my fingers hurt:)… best, Joe
Fabulous version. I remember the first time I heard Purple's version, i found it about 20 seconds before the Organ solo and all I thought was "damnit, these guys are good", not recognising it as purple thanks to the mk1 line up. Great memory 😃
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum thanks for replying Joe. I love that you take the time to do that and yes, a great memory it is, too. I can remember every details, from my location, the vehicle, the time of night as well as what I said when Jon Lord let fly with his epic solo. I've grown to love music for its ability to transport one back to another time and the memories that come with that. Shame I can't play anything 😂
Thanks Stephen… I did have fun but my playing like I told another viewer that said kind words about my playing was it was really more smoke and mirrors than the truly talented musicians on that stage. Yes Paul is music in the form of a human:)…. Best, Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum I was stoked to see you up there ripping it up. And yes ripping. The proof is in the music. Whatever it was you sounded spot on. Loving the posts by the way...
Hey Joe….I should have mentioned that I loved the choice of song “hush” and the band but I’ve never seen you play guitar before and you are one fine player…..
Well…… I appreciate it. I did have fun playing with Paul and the other guys but honestly I hadn’t touched a guitar in 8 years at the time and haven’t picked it up since we finished that song. I just wanted to play that song and especially with Paul. Also to be completely honest….. I was by far the weakest link in the chain on stage that night. Having said that I also probably had the most fun. Thanks for the very kind words… best, Joe
The problem with commenting late is that most of the things I want to say have been said. Of course the band was great. Paul played like Paul and Ferris's pipes worked great. But toss some of that humble pie out of the window, Joe... For not really playing for 8 years (as you say), you nailed it. Your fingers would have hurt but I bet the smiles were bigger. I've just slowly started playing again after 1 1/2 years due to hand issues and my fingers are tennnn...der! And don't give us that "it was smoke and mirrors" line. When you needed to make the right sounds.. you did. Great video. As usual.
Joe, I just stumbled on this tonight and I love the song. I was very entertained to see you playing also and you did a fantastic job. Wow! You can really play well !
Thanks Barry… I’m glad you enjoyed it. One of my favorite songs that I never got to play when I was in my band. Joe South being a inductee gave me the chance to include the song that night especially having Paul Shaffer playing organ. I honestly hadn’t played guitar in 8 years before that night other than practicing for a couple weeks beforehand. Killed my fingers:) I had great fun even though I didn’t deserve to place myself on that stage with those top drawer musicians but I had never played at any of our other induction concerts so I decided it was my chance. Thanks for the kind comment……. Best, Joe

I'm being honest when I say Ritchie Blackmore ain't got nothing on you Joe.. I love the added blues feeling you brought to it with your playing.. Just an amazing cover altogether.. A true grand slam that knocked it out of the park!
George….. you are overly kind with your comments……. But…. You made my day:) I hadn’t played guitar for 8 years before picking it up two weeks before the induction to try and build some calluses on the tips of my fingers so it wouldn’t hurt so bad or blister up. I never got the chance to play Hush in any of the bands I had so this was my chance and with the great Paul Shaffer on organ! I was scared to death to be on stage with those great musicians all around me but I figured I may never have that chance again. It was great fun. Thanks again…… Joe
