  • Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he rolls through the day and replaces the front disk brake pads and rotors on a 2013 Fords Escape Titanium. Now this is a pretty simple job to do but it would be best before you handle this yourself to make sure you have the proper tools, equipment and manual. As always be safe!

Its raining cats and dogs in Texas. I had to cancel a road trip, due to a tornado warning. I was really bummed out thinking my 2 days off will be spent indoors.

Thanks for the help doing my wife's brakes on her 2014 escape. Well you know what I mean, this video took the mystery out of them and I had the right size Alan socket to take the calipers off. I also picked up the took to clean around the wheel lugs...HUGE help. I also got the hook to hang the caliper which is much safer than balancing it. Keep up the good work.

Great video. Just got the Autel Diaglink($109) after seeing you use autel. It's the DIY version of the MD802 it does one make of vehicle and then $10 for each additional make, looks like 3 will fit in memory. It is awesome I can see all modules i believe all the factory PIDS and graph two of them at a time or merge graphs wow. Thanks again. How about a t-shirt for sale with all your colorful phrases...it would be a best seller. Have the viewers suggest their top five phrases and 1-2-barbeque better than a money light.

Hi Eric, I love your channel. I have a 2010 Ford Escape XLT 118.000km with a peculiar issue on my braking system. I lose my power assist, mechanic bleeds, work for a month, and then lose power assist again. The brakes only catch near the floor. We blend them 2 different occasions and the problem returns. The only brake parts I changed in 14years are Front Disks and Pads. Everything else is original and checks out from my mechanic. Is there a specific issue with these vehicles that causes this issue? My mechanic thinks but not 100% the Master cylinder. We do not want to replace it for nothing. Thank you, Any advice is appreciated.

I am surprised you don't have any tools for pushing back pistons on calipers. I have a cheez two jaw puller that if you take the jaws off and just use the cross bar and the threaded rod makes quick work of most one and two piston calipers.

What about the other side? LOL Too much fun. Did a Bendix class on brakes many years ago. Nice people. Had a guy in our shop that would throw wheel cylinder kits up in a cubby hole rather than use them. We got into it over something unrelated and he got fired. They never replaced him. Bosses daughter used to pump gas and wash cars and do oil changes in a halter top and Daisy Dukes. Last I heard she was a paralegal. She was HOT even after having kids. Never forget her.

Not looking forward to my 03 TrailBlazer brakes this weekend, needs new calipers. I really hate what road salt does to those rotors, eats them up every time, groves, pits and really trashes them out. Pretty much every two years on a brake job on the old Trailblazer, not the calipers. First time change for those. Not bad for 200k.

If it weren't for your videos, I'd be very reluctant to repairing and maintaining my cars myself. Of course, for engine, fuel, airbag or transmission issues, I don't mess around and take it to a trusted shop. But for everything else, I feel a bit of confidence giving it a good shot.

I just changed my front breaks and am a newbie. It now makes a groaning siren sound when i make a very slow right hand turn in the subdivision or into the driveway etc. Any idea of what i couldve done wrong to have caused this?

I never thought to use a screwdriver to push back the piston. I always tap the caliper off, remove the pad and clean everything before I push the piston back for fear of damaging the rubber and or piston ! on my own cars I completely disassemble the caliper so I can clean and inspect everything, hay why not? While your there go through the whole thing and put a new rubber kit through it, for a few dollars extra its worth the effort.

Why are there 2 sizes of break pads on my Ford Escape XLT v6 2011? How do I know what size to buy?

Do I need to bleed the brakes after changing pads? Trying to do this project myself instead of paying Ford a small fortune.

You did not torque the hex key caliper slide bolts,. Do you know the torque for them. You did mention the torque for the 18mm bracket as 125

What kind of air hammer and attachment did you use to take off the rotor? I had a set of rear rotors I could not get off and tried all my tricks. I think I need some air tools

A good idea to step on the brake pedal a few times after putting everything back together to push out the pads. And also good to take the vehicle for a short drive and make a few stops at varing speeds to bead in the pads and check for proper operation and noise.

surely he does that, but good advice to folks watching and doing it themselves, don't need any accidents.
I nearly always do that, except for folks that were "race car drivers" or "mechanics" for years, they like to break in their own brakes :)
