DH calls in my opinion are the best on the market. Very cool to have him based out of Western NY

In my vest I carry one slate and one crystal pot call that I hand made, I also carry a Turpin box call and houndstooth mouth calls.
I did like the houndstooth mouth calls great sound to em indeed
And that’s badass on making your own pot call!
Purchased my first custom David Halloran box call this spring Ebony /Walnut best call I own

Halloran box & slate, been to his shop & parent's house and seen his Boykin Spaniels. I have a Boykin now for fall turkey & pheasants. Started switching to the Kluck mouth calls as I can no longer reach Steve Kinder XT custom calls out of Pennsylvania. XT calls were the best, at least for me, but tough to get ahold of.
Hell ya when I get my Boykin it will be from where he got his was talking that over with him at NWTF last year

I’ve tried a fair number of mouth calls the last two years and honestly a straight double reed is my favorite. Works quiet without much air and can make all the sounds. So many I tried could only do a one or two calls well and I feel like they are so raspy you’re sounding more like a Jake than a hen. Could just be the double reed I found fit well and works and the others I tried just weren’t great quality examples, but I’m just going to stick with old simple and reliable rather than trying each season’s newest cut style.
Hell ya all that matters is what works for you everyone varies it’s just like your gun setup we all like and use different things
The total turkey gear setup is such a personal thing it truly is just awesome ahahah
I only carry 3 calls. A Lynch world champion box call for windy days, a Pinhoti gray ghost mouth call and a Woodhaven toxic orange mouth call. The Woodhaven gets the most use by far

Huge fan of DH calls. I hunt western Massachusetts and dozens of birds have been killed by myself and friends since I started running them. All have a great sound to them I haven’t used one I wouldn’t recommend. Huge fan of his serial killer mouth call pack. Can’t think of the name of the gray colored one in that pack but that’s my favorite.
Hell ya! I’ve never used his mouth calls but I love everything else! Such a pure turkey sound!

Right now, week 6 majority of Toms have gone pretty quiet here. I used for years a Knight and Hale Dual Threat Glass and Slate. Loved it, kinda passed down to son now. JT Calls is slate I use now. Been good so far.
Jt calls makes great calls I use to have one of his slates in my vest until I got the DH top shelf ceramic slate
I run only mouth and crystal pot calls (cartel) but that box call sounds better than the others I’ve ran. I stay away from box calls in my area (long island). Not a lot of hardcore turkey hunters, mainly guys slapping box calls.
I use the cartel’s mouth call. I love the sound of the 4 Reed.
Don’t worry I hunt nowhere near you 😂
Most of the hardcore turkey hunters I know swear by having a box call with them the difference is they know how the cadence matters
@@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA Yup, cadence is key. When I’ve ran into hunters and hearing their calls with the box call, it’s the same 7 note yelp. I agree it should in the arsenal. I don’t even use a vest anymore. It’s one of the reasons I stopped carrying one. Just a Bino harness with a small hydration pack. I need to get an attachment to carry a box call.

4-pots and an array of strikers. One pot was purchased at “The local Cabelas” clearance bin for 6 bucks. The go too and never leave home w/o it. K&H GH. Glass/Slate combo. DH ceramic as well. Green Anodized aL. for them gob.. yelps and a W.B. My own mouth calls. And I’m not an expert either. :) all that listed produce ⭕ turkeys this spring 🤣
Jay.. what vest you have? and what striker you run on that DH ceramic? My ceramic slips a lil sometimes. I read alcohol wipes and scotch brite for conditioning. But does sandpaper work better?

Both Alcohol & scotchbrite works good too I usually touch it up with fine grit sand paper lightly to get a good grain then use scotchbrite the rest of season keeps that joker sounding PURRRTYYY
You can have all the calls in the world but that never guaranteed a gobbler ahahah
So much goes into punching a tag that most just overlook (not talking about you here)
