I'm a DYI-er who has been doing this for years, and about to become certified so i can build a small home based business on the side for when I retire from my full-time job. I have learned more from you in the last couple of months than i have in years. Thank you for what you do. I think it is far better to share and get the word out, helping more techs to do nails the right way, than it is to think you have proprietary info and jealously guard your "secrets". We ALL win when we share and teach others the knowledge we have. Bless you!

Thank you for answering Q22! I don't know who asked it, but I'm glad they did! Now I have a video to refer people to when they bring up negative stereotypes when referring to the nail business. It's the same thing with braid shops in urban areas, party stores/gas stations, or take-out shops serving ethnic foods--the stereotypes are exhausting. Let's all be better humans :)

OMGOSH!!! Thank you so much for using my question and providing an answer. My question was in reference to healing damaged nails. I am a DIYer. And through a great deal of trial and error, emphasis on the error, lol, I have learned a great deal. But your videos have taught me soooo much more! You have helped reinforce things I've learned through experience but clarified issues I still had questions about. Through it all, my natural nails have taken a beating. So over the past year I have tried to be really careful and protect them but wondered if there was a product that would help repair the damage. You recommend the IBX product. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I love your videos and am in awe of your vast knowledge. Thank you again for sharing such vital information with us. It speaks greatly to your character.

We're really thankful Liz for all the information you provide us with! ♥You know it too that it's so difficult to get such simplified answers to questions that "haunt" us for a really really long time...Especially when there are so many myths out there that just confuse us more😅Knowing how to deal with problems that pop up suddenly during appointments and what the cause is so that we can be careful next time,is such a powerful weapon to getting better and understanding things in every angle not only as a nail tech, but as DIYers or even clients etc!Keep up this amazing work and thank you once again! ♥

Hi Ms. Liz 👋 Well I think I'm finally caught up with this amazing Series you are so selflessly doing for all of us nail art passionate lovers, wether beginners or DIYers as myself as well as licensed technicians. I've been in the hospital, unfortunately had to go under an emergency open heart surgery and now have to stay over my daughters for at least 6 weeks because doc said I can't be alone 😕 Anywho I've been catching up on the Series on my daughters loptop so if it looks like I didn't watch someone it is because I did so there. Once again wanted to extend my love and appreciation to you sweetie. I've learned so much and looking forward to see all the rest of this such helpful series. Words cannot express how grateful I am for how you are sharing so much of your knowledge and experience. You are absolutely amazing baby girl, 1 of kind for sure. Thank you so so very much. Te quiero mucho muñeca linda 💗

I just wanted to pop on and say I absolutely adore you! And it's funny you mentioned the non-standard salons as I was just chatting with my hubby about that whole stereotype etc. and how it's interesting as were locals to Hawaii (born and raised) and how different yet the same it is to the mainland as we only really have non-standard salons generally on our island, with very few exceptions of course, but I digress, I love the history lesson, thank you! And of course all of your incredible content, so again, truly, thank you!! ❤️

Thank you again for a great video. Question for you: I am a DYI-er and I love to paint my nails for work. However, when I go to beauty supply stores (or to the manufacturers website) to purchase product suggested in videos, I am refused because I do not have a cosmetology license. Why would the manufacturers care if I have a license or not? Shouldn't they just want to sell their product? It forces me to buy substandard products. I have called around to find nail techs who use the product I want to try and most of them don't keep up with the industry and have no clue of what I am asking about. I even went to a college and asked an instructor and she didn't know you couldn't soak off hard gel. She thought all gel was the same. It's frustrating! Is there a place us DYI-ers can go to get the same quality products you do?

Hi Liz! This series is super helpful, especially to a DIYer like me who hasn't received any formal training (and there isn't a lot of really trustworthy information online). I look forward to your videos every Monday! A few questions:
    1) Do you have a link to the round glass pump-top bottle you keep acetone in? I have a plastic one for alcohol, but I don't trust acetone in it, and the only glass one I can find is ugly and brown. :)
    2) You mentioned that you prefer pure gel over hybrid gel - what is your favorite product available to DIYers? A lot of the ones you recommend in videos seem to only be available to certified nail techs (like Light Elegance and Akzentz).

Liz, I am amazed by your knowledge and your ability to teach. I stopped going to the nail salon when the COVID 19 pandemic started. Thanks to UTube, I learned to do my own gel nails. Hi Liz. I love your videos, they are very interesting and educative. But as a chemist, I can say that isopropyl alcohol is absolutely not the same as dehydrated ethanol. Those are two different molecules. Ethanol is also an alcohol and could be used in the cleanser, but dehydrated ethanol would just be 100% ethanol. =)

Hi Liz, I've been binge watching your videos all night I love how much you go into detail! I cannot thank you enough! You mentioned that the inhibition layer is like a side effect. Does this mean that no-wipe top coats are better because they save time and products? I find that some brands of no-wipe top coats don't last as well as the normal ones - I've only used them for chrome so I'm not sure x

I quite enjoy your insight on this industry. Will you be addressing the reignited craze for dip acrylics that blur the lines with gel since the resin used must be cured? I’m interested to know your opinion on this product. As a gel nail tech, I don’t offer it and find product removal difficult, time consuming and damaging to nail bed when done improperly especially when clients attempt removal themselves.

I love these Q&As. With so much to learn, is there an order in which you would recommend newbies to learn, for example in terms of services to offer? I’m not explaining myself well. Like would you recommend they learn first, a basic manicure, then a gel manicure, then acrylics, then something even more advanced?.. Also, would you recommend that people know how to do many different services before setting up a business or applying for a job at an already established business?

I am loving these videos, Liz. I'm not a trained professional, but I move around a lot and am constantly changing locations. I get tired of trying different salons and I'm always disappointed with the results. I would rather do my nails at home on my own. I can't wait to see the upcoming videos. I am interested in learning how to do natural nail overlays with quality products. My nails have lots of ridges. How should I deal with them? Also, how does IBX Boost work with their other Strengthen and Repair products?

What is the best way to mix the gel polish? Shake or stir.

    • @Candace-1982
      @Candace-1982 6 років тому +1

I've always seen them stir it. You can take a toothpick or the end of a brush and stir it up that way you can get what's settled to the bottom mixed up real good.☺

I usually shake bottles and stir pots. But if the bottled gel polishes are really settled you can take out the brush and really scrape the bottom with a spatula or orange wood stick first before attempting to shake it.

Hi Liz! I'm not sure if you've covered this on another podcast but could you share any information on how to reinvest back into your business. Like how to set a budget and prioritize.

This is such a good video!! Really great for those who choose not to get an education 👍 BUT ethanol is NOT the same as isopropyl!! Ethanol is clean alcohol, also used in drinking alcohol like vodka rum etc. Denautered ethanol is ethanol that has been through a process so it tastes really bad, only to prevent that people use it to make their own drinking alcohol. And it does NOT have the same function as isopropyl. Isopropyl is really good to remove sticky things, like tape, stickers, sticky layer from gel etc. Where ethanol can only be used to disinfection. (Im really sorry about my broken english, but I hope you all can understand the main points 😍)

You actually can use denatured ethanol to kill surface bacteria and to remove the tacky layer on gel. Therefore it can be used for the same purpose as isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol is best but I got asked the question if it works and yes it would work as an alternative.

The Nail Hub I agree, it can be used, but is not as good as isopropyl. 👍👍😉 But you said “its almost the same, if not actually is the same”. So thats what I responded to and tried to explain the differences :) But some things get lost in translation as some things cant be translated, or doesnt make much sense when translated. But I tried :)

Question for the future enhancements video...how do you keep the tiny air bubbles out of hard gel? I always seem to get them no matter how careful I try to be. Thank you in advance, we appreciate you more than you know!

Thank you for this amazing series. I am hooked! I've watched them all multiple times.
I have a question. I know that the good manufacturers do not want to sell products to non-professionals. I think I understand why: We don't want a bunch of unlicensed amateurs working on the public! A lot of proper education and training needs to happen first. That part, I get.
But I am a "DIYer" according to your lingo, and I am dying to play with things like potted gels, for example. My experimenting would only ever be performed on myself!
Would you consider selling limited quantities of professional products on your website? You could make non-professionals officially register as such, and only be allowed to purchase very small quantities of things like gel polishes and brushes, for example. But we would never be able to purchase things like gallons of acetone or vacuum filtration systems, for example, because we would never possibly need those.
Please? Lol. Thanks again for all of your generous work on these. I am a big fan. Love :)

Hi Liz! I recently started following you and you know so much! I’m so happy I found your channel. I have a question. I’m a DIYer and I’m concerned about undercuring and allergies. I also have a 12w led lamp, which I know you don’t recommend (watched your other video lol). I think my polish is properly cured but how can I tell for sure? I use gel polish and a thin coat of builder (brand is Bio Seaweed). I just want to make sure I dont develop an allergy (no issues or anything) because I love gel nails so much! Thank you! :)
