- This year marks 20 years since the hit show The Simple Life first aired with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, two popular rich and famous daughters who now have to give up all of their favorite things like their phones and money as they are sent out to live the simple life, from working on a farm to getting internships at many different types of places. But the amount of interesting things surrounding the show make it fun to talk about, from its importance to reality TV and how it came to be as well as the major frienship split between Paris and Nicole. Let's take a look at The (not so) Simple life!

I remember it on TV but we didn’t watch it. My mom was obsessed with The Hills so that’s what I watched with her as a child growing up on the 2000s 😆 I hope you can do a video on the hills!
This takes place in my home state. Everyone in my high school would talk about and how embarrassing it is to be from Arkansas.
It was pretty random that I seen it and would just watch it on rainy days or hours before sleep cause of HS GOOD TIMES.
I remember watching Paris being the Meteorologist since I lived in Central Maryland. It caught me by Surprise. 😂
I bought the first season of The Simple Life on DVD from a pawn shop as a teenager back in the day. The #1 thing I remember was Paris telling a kid she was babysitting, "If you do a really bad job, people won't ask you to do it again". I thought it was peak comedy as a teen and now as an adult, I see weaponized incompetence in several walks of life: work, parenting, housework in relationships. That advice was too real.

This show was ICONIC for the early 2000s like I don’t think kids these days know how big a chokehold Paris Hilton had in the early 2000s she was truly the definition of an it girl. It’s funny seeing Kim Kardashian being a huge it girl and things like that, but that’s because she went from following Paris around everywhere and cleaning her closet for her. This show was hilarious and thanks for covering it, I gotta look up and see if it’s anywhere :)
it’s so weird because we can all look back on Paris and most of us can admittedly say she was iconic but i honestly can’t see that being the case for Kim😭 Paris has come out and admitted that most of her “persona” was an act she put on for the cameras but for some reason it feels much more authentic coming from her than Kim. maybe that’s because Kim swears up and down that this is who she really is while Paris has always been pretty upfront about doing things for attention. somewhere inside Paris is a real person, inside Kim there’s just more Kim. that’s just my take tho🤷♀️

There used to be whole episodes on UA-cam. Back during the height of the pandemic, when everyone was on lock down, I found them and rewatched them all. I don't know if they are still up, but they were a couple of years ago.

Is* she's still an icon and always will be 💖 Especially with the y2k style resurgence. Also that she and Nicole have both branched into multiple other financial opportunities that give them other recognition besides the intial introduction via The Simple Life.
Paris was just there. She didn't do anything special. I don't remember anything she did. Know nothing about her except that she's rich. She was just there. A constant in life.

This series was just three seasons of Paris and Nicole doing IRL shitposting and it’s probably my biggest guilty pleasure show even if I don’t like reality TV.

Oddly enough, my dad lives in this town. I was visiting him one summer and they were filming the show. We didn't really know what was going on but my dad pointed out Paris and Nicole and how there were hundreds of people around them for some reason. They cleared the crowds once filming began and these girls really dialed the dumbness down to a thousand. We all got to meet them and talk to them and they're actually pretty nice people.
I watched MTV/VH1 religiously in the early 2000's. Not a day went by that they didn't discuss Paris and Nicole. My opinion of them was meh, at best. Then, I caught an episode of The Simple Life, completely by accident. Wow! I was taken aback by how kind, humble, and downright funny they were. I thought they were gonna be snobby, mean girl types. No way! They showed up, leaned into the comedy, and didn't take themselves too seriously. They didn't make fools out of innocent bystandars or their working-class, blue-collar hosts. Rather, they made themselves the butt of the joke, and they were so kind to everyone.

My Sister would watch this show all the time growing up and of course as the only boy I pretended like it was a stupid "girly" show but deep down inside i was enjoying it and had a lil crush on Nichole 😂
I love that 😂 my fiance does that now. I re watched it not too long ago and he's like 'wtf is this' and then ended up watching all the seasons with me 😄

I met Paris Hilton in March for her memoir signing. ❤❤ I religiously watched this show from the ages of 13 to 17. It was truly an iconic moment for me! Paris is so sweet and such a great listener. So glad to see how she's come. I love that Nicole came to Paris's wedding ❤
Nicole was always my fave with her outlandish humor. Gave me confidence back then to just be myself
The early-mid 2000s was a golden age for reality shows. Lots of fun watching this when it first aired.

I like Paris Hilton. She's actually super kind and smart. When she does movies, she's been known to donate the use of her entire wardrobe as well as funding, and that's honestly amazing. She's not even that bad of an actress tbh. I mean, she's not the best or anything, but she's not as bad as people make her out to be. She's honestly pretty great as a person. I've never heard a story of someone interacting withher and her acting like an awful human.
I didn't know she let then use her clothes. That explains a lot about repo the genetic opera. I knew they used her wardrobe for a lot of the costumes. But I didn't know she did that on the regular. That's kinda cool. 😊

I loved this show so much! Even though Paris said she played up the ditzy blonde roll, I could see that she was a kind and genuine person. I'd love to binge watch this again. Could netflix please pick it up?
Paris Hilton earned some respect from me when she appeared in Supernatural as essentially a parody of herself, where she also turned out a pagan creature that was killing people. But she had some lines about how ridiculous it was that "she was what now passed as idolatry". I mean I'm sure the line was just written for her, and it wasn't exactly her thoughts. But the fact that she was willing to do it earned her some points imo

I didn't watch this show until like 2019 and only saw 1 or 2 seasons but god it was hilarious. Their comedic timing is brilliant.

As someone who grew up not having basic cable in the 90s-2000s, I would watch whatever was on basic TV at the time. I've only seen a few reality shows on Fox & the WB network( now called the CW network). I've seen this, season 2 of Surreal Life, & the first 2 seasons of Beauty & the Greek. As I grew older, I stopped watching reality TV
I saw those gas prices from 2003 and remembered my aunt complaining about that back then I bet if I pulled her from the past to show her gas now she'd go crazy filling up jugs of gas to preaerve
When I was a kid gas/petrol was mostly 6 nok per liter, and in the 2010s it became 11nok and a guy interviewed on TV said "if the price ever goes over 12 nok, I refuse to ever drive again!" and now the prices are usually around 20nok..! I wonder if he's still driving to this day..!

It's hard to look back at this show or anything involving Paris Hilton when you finally know and understand her story. It's a long one about abuse, trauma, and exploitation, and it's way too endemic to our culture.
Paris Hilton was a big strong Woman who didn't need no man to tell her what to do. She is fully capable of making her own decisions.

Being born with a silver spoon doesn't mean that a person can't experience the same things as some who isn't in the 1%. Even the 1% of our population are whole humans with feelings and needs the same way the rest of us are.

Ahhh, so remember this show. At least the first 3 seasons. Paris and Nicole get mad respect for me now for the personas they created for the series. It could have been cringe, but they were actually funny and willing to make a joke of themselves.
I wasn’t even born when this show came out but I started watching it during lockdown and now it became my comfort show
As a viewer, super hyped and cannot wait for the next vid ! Unfortunately the most recent series ended up on streaming services due to the pandemic, leading to me unable to view the show past season 40: winners at war :( Beyond that season unfortunately there were no good game twists or gimmicks to make the season memorable. But Hell yeah the show was great and good for nostalgia !

Never knew that there were two more seasons of the show. My Sister was obsessed wirh the show. It was funny to watch. My favorite moment being that Paris was on FOX45 my Local Station one morning and it was the talk on the Bus.

I haven't seen this show before, but I'd seen ads for it back in the day, but I really enjoyed listening to your thoughts, opinions, and your nice voice! I was born in '91, so I was still probably "too young" to watch the show and understand everything going on since I'm on the spectrum with Aspergers' Autism and back then shows like this weren't on my radar. I was a Recess, Doug, Hey Arnold, and Rugrats kid. I swear, 90's/early 2000's cartoons were the best. Your videos are always fun to watch and listen to, and I look forward to your next one!
If you want to know if bottle of milk is diluted with water or if it is pure milk, the diluted bottle content when pored with have blue tint that is really noticeable.
My great aunt (who passed at 27 yrs old bless her) was dating the green acres dude PRE green acres, when he was at the u of m. My great gramma told her to break it off and marry someone "who has a stable financial future" 👀 oh the irony there. I mean, this was in the 30s though so like 🤷♀️ i get it, she wanted the best for her daughter. But maaaaan, my dad said years later after auntie passed and GA dude made it big, my gramma called up my great gramma and was all "???" 😂

I didn't watch this in orginal run (I was too cool 😂) but a few years ago I watched a season or two and got really into the performance art the two did together
I was still a teen when this came out and didn't quite understand reality TV yet... or at least how pervasive it was at that time... and I was always so perplexed by how nice everyone was to Nicole and Paris despite how many rules they broke. It was definitely entertaining to see them get away with everything.
