Hello sir! I retired as an Independent Duty Medical Technician (IDMT) from the Air Force thirty-one years ago and the advances made in gear have been phenomenal. I wish I had this backpack then instead of that cumbersome fold out black box that was great on the scene. However, it was a pain in the ass carrying it especially if you had to continue assisting the patient in transport to the ambulance (or "Cracker Box" out in the field). Last Line of Defense (LLOD) featured this bag in one of his videos and it piqued my interest; you have me sold on buying one, mainly to set up a primary first aid kit as I am the most trained of our overland group. That SAM Splint would be a great addition to my kit. Your presentation is excellent and congratulations on the You Tube award (100K subs I would guess). I noticed that the Vertx backpack has had a 20 dollar increase in price so I had better get one now. Thank you, sir!
Hey Sam, I like the idea of flexi cuffs, but as a LEO in Colorado I'd kind of advise against them. The reason is that taking someone into custody alone is a pretty dangerous situation, and it may result in a fight where you're now forced to use lethal force. I've been to calls where law abiding citizens had a suspect at gunpoint when we showed up. In those instances it was pretty easy to determine what was going on and the law abiding guy didnt get guns pointed at him. I'd say youd be better off just having whoever is calling 911 tell then who YOU are, what you're wearing, and that you'll put your gun away/ down when they get there. Love the videos dude, be safe. Welcome to CO!
Great advice 🙏 in some countries and I assume some states in America, it's also against the law to restrain someone with cuffs or devices like this, even if it the situation is justified.
Agreed man. Distance is safety. Go hands on and now you’ve put yourself in a bad situation if they decide to fight. Won’t be a good look in court if you end up shooting them
Amazing video as always. Really considering buying one for myself. You recommend the "space blanket" for preventing hypothermia, and considering the time of year and cold weather in general, could you make a video on it? Maybe a hypothermia video in general. Im an EMT myself in Denmark and we practice the handling/caring of hypothermic patients alot. But I think it's good knowledge for everybody to see how you use those space blankets!
The thing about hypothermia especially in trauma is it doesn't need to be cold outside. It could be 90 degrees Fahrenheit outside and a trauma patient could go hypothermic. The body loses the ability to maintain its own internal temp and starts configuring to the environment around them. So even tho 90 degrees F feels very hot to us that almost 9 degrees F below normal body temp and that can be deadly. Its great to have a space blanket with you year round.

This is a great review, I don't need something this intense, but I watched through the whole video! You had good examples of how much can go in there and the different variations
I edc a bowl for soup. Gazpacho has been around since Roman times, at least in its basic form: a cold soup of leftover bread, water, vinegar, garlic and olive oil. Enriched later with New World tomatoes and peppers, it was pounded with massive pestles in a communal bowl to sustain laborers in the fields. Happily, gazpachos have gotten smoother since (gracias, el blender!), though the trick that imparts its velvety texture-soaking the bread in the liquid first-remains fundamental.
I really like the versatility of this pack. Would be nice to see a Velcro panel like the mollie panel. That way you could use those Velcro pouches and do quick change for mission/use specific scenarios.
Brother you make phenomenal videos. You waste no time or words you just get down to brass tax. And your camera work is awesome so we can see from different views exactly what your showing. Keep up the great videos I subscribed and now checking out all your videos
I wish the two side panels of the internal compartment were hook and loop to enable the possibility of using the two longer accessory pouches either side and the four smaller ones on the back or one large one when travelling etc. Just gives that extra bit of versatility.
Looks like a good pack. I have a rush 12. Great pack and holds up really well. The cord running through one of my zippers broke though so i might get shoe string or a zip tie or something to run back through the zipper. But other than that its been a great and super durable pack.

I love the well-thought out features and functionality of this bag, but it may be too compartmentalized for my needs. I tend to adhere to the KISS method and, while even more spendy than the Vertx, I prefer the simplicity of the GORUCK lineup. GR1 for my EDC and GR2 as my "go" or "get home" bag. But I'm not a professionally trained medic, so I don't need (or know how to use) some of the gear you carry.
Hi, congrats for all your gear. I’d only suggest you a pair of working gloves like ringer gloves or mechanix if you are doign some hard work, changing a flat tire, shooting or something else.
This is a great idea that I've never considered before, beyond latex gloves in a medical context. A pair of decent Mechanix gloves and some folded Shop Towels have a whole bunch of uses and wouldn't take up much for space(probably nestle in nicely in his unused pocket behind the water bottle. Thanks, Pablo.
@@l5mtf393 Well.. I live in Argentina. 50% tax on all imports over U$S 25, and in a few days a new tax of 30% for anything bought in any currency not Arg Peso. I have a philosophical question. I’m about to start my paramedic training. I’m curious how you deal with do no harm and self defense?
Do no harm (while you are doing medicine). If you are not practicing medicine then do harm to prevent greater harm
@@PrepMedic thanks man, that helps to get that from someone in the field 👍
If I would like to go into a combined medical and criminal justice field, do you have any suggestions on how to do this? Should I take both medical and criminal justice classes in college or focus on one?
Callsign_k- 9 take criminal justice and then take the medical course that you need for your specialty.
Sam I understand that you are a reserve deputy sheriff, you are a full time paramedic with a service. Do they allow you to carry on duty or do you lock it up before shift.
I am no longer a reserve deputy, I moved to colorado. I am not permitted to carry on duty.
Great review... thank you!
Love this video as I do all of your videos. I've been debating on whether or not to get a 5.11 AMP 24 or the Vertx Gamut lately. Not sure if you could offer any thoughts on the matter. Both look extremely nice with their own pros and cons. Would love to hear what you have to say though
I use the AMP for my work bag and I love it but I don't like it as much for EDC.
What bag did you decide on? I have the Gamut 2.0 and the AMP 24 in my kitchen right now trying to figure out the pros and cons, I'd like to hear what you went with and why. Also how's the bag you went with holding up over the years. Thanks
@@GAPPERnumeroUNO I went with the AMP 24. I used it throughout EMT school and for a while once I got on an ambulance. I am using a messenger bag now.
